  13. I am all for the victim and the action she took. However think about it; a 17 year old girl who drank so much at a party that she passes out. It’s like leaving your wallet in plain sight on the seat of an unoccupied unlocked car. Now don’t you all get your knickers all in a twist, I am not blaming the victim. She is not the criminal. But if you knew your teenage sister or daughter was passing out drunk at parties, you would want to ground her, right??

  17. Call me a contrarian, but you break the law…you pay the piper. There was a gag order on the case and until the trial verdict is read, or the plea bargain is accepted by the court (and so ordered), that gag order is in effect.
    I am reminded of David Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann. I should have never heard of those names. They should be strangers. Yet, because a hooker/stripper/opportunist (Crystal Magnum) decided to make a few bucks, and because a crap load of liberal idiots enabled her…I know those names. Yet, they were innocent.
    There is a reason for gag orders, even if it doesn’t seem too apparent in this particular case. Incidentally, had she waited until after the plea bargain was ordered…and provided the PA didn’t include a gag as part of the plea…she could have twittered to her heart’s content after the case was concluded.

    Judges live in wealthy, safe neighborhoods, the kind that have private security patrols. They have preferential response time by the police. They have personal bodyguards. They work in fortresses with armed guards. Why on earth would they give a sh*t about the victims of crime?
    Those are little people.

    Truth is she needed her OWN lawyer to be there, purely to protect her interests and make sure some kind of BS deal like this didn’t get done in the interests of expedience. Or the budget, or because the prosecutor knew one of the perp’s parents, or because payola, or whatever.
    Because clearly protecting the citizens from criminal behavior is not high on the court’s list of priorities.
    By the way, wrt the girl passing out at a party. It is the job of MEN to make sure its safe for chicks to do stupid stuff like that. The usual way is to beat the living sh1t out of -scum- like Will and Austin when you find them.
    Nothing like a broken jaw to instruct scum in the finer points of moral behavior.

  25. I would merely note, john, that while they do indeed have private security, the overwhelming majority of their protection comes from “Law Enforcement”. Those same “Law Enforcement” are sworn to the Constitution by their very oath of office. The very oath which gives them their ONLY authority. And yet when confronted with acts such as that of this “judge”, they overwhelming spit on that oath and grovel before their Masters. Yes, if “Law Enforcement” merely looked the other way, Mere Citizens would STILL have to deal with the private security. But I expect it would not be very long before Judge McDonald’s head was appropriately blown off.
    May she rot in hell, along with every GD Kentucky pig that enables her.

    Equal is equal. Further up, there was a reference to the Duke Lacrosse Team’s trial, when they were put under a similar gag order… and I doubt you protested at all.
    So… you want everyone to be “equal” under the law, but you want to skew the law to favour women’s behaviour over men’s. So much for that equality, eh?
    Wait for it… men and women are NOT the same. We have different strategies and desires. Gosh, who woulda thunk it?
    Certainly not a bunch of “conservatives” who essentially hold onto liberal beliefs while promoting conservative values!
    If you took the time to realize WHY conservative values emerged in the first place, dear Mamba, you would find that the basis for your argument is completely void.

    The parallels you drew are:
    1) Rape victim got drunk and that is the equivalent of a drunk getting behind the wheel.
    Drinking and getting drunk is not a crime, rape is, driving drunk is. I missed the part in the story where it says she drove to her attackers house drunk.
    2. Duke Lacross had a gag order, why not the hue and cry about that:
    Is the rapists trial over? Yes. Did they plead guilty? Yes.
    The Duke Team fought it tooth and nail and won. The gag order was in place to protect the apparent victim, not the team of would be rapists. Do we now know who the apparent victim was? Yes.
    You’re comparing apples and Chryslers in your desire to put down this woman who is willing to face the punishment for the crime of having contempt for the Judge.
    Man up.

Without wanting to turn this into one of those extended debate things which Kate so discourages, my only “argument” is that an unconcious person is not fair game for rape or sexual abuse short of rape. Not even if she was foolish enough to get wasted at a party. Her behaviour was highly risky and irresponsible, but that of the young men involved was criminal. Do you honestly think women want to wake up and realized they’ve been molested? Good grief.
    She shouldn’t have tweeted their names, given that their names were protected (although I don’t see why that should have been the case, or why the two were given a slap on the wrist), but imprisoning her for it is absolutely beyond the pale.
    Anything else you think I’m saying is just stuff you’ve decided to think I think. Not my problem.

    She was under court order. Period. Whether she was drunk or not is a misnomer. Why is it not ok to get behind the wheel of a car when you are loaded – ie. full responsiblity – but, to get drunk amidst a group of DRUNK men, voids you of all responsibility? (If it voids her of responsiblity because she was drunk… why doesn’t the men’s drunken behaviour get diminished because THEY were drunk… or do you think drunkeness applies differently to the sexes?)
    The Duke Lacrosse Team DID NOT plead guilty, for crying out loud. The MEDIA proclaimed them guilty, and their wealthy families had the some odd $5,000,000 dollars to defend them and keep them free… while the entire university condemned them, asked for their castration, and even had Nancy Grace asking for their balls on a plate.
    Crystal Gayle Magnum, btw, is now in jail for murdering her next boyfriend… but she never received punishment for making false accusations against the Duke Lacrosse Team… and Mike Nifong, the DA who altered evidence, received only the most minor slap on the wrist for his abuse of power.

    No, it is not the job of MEN to make sure it’s safe for women to do stupid stuff. It is women who need to take RESPONSIBILITY for their actions. Stop treating them like incompetent idiots. Do you think women are making sure it’s safe for men to do stupid stuff? No.

    Now with regards to the article – there was a gag order issued. She published their names. She broke the order. Is she above the law?
    It states in the link within the above link,
    “The boys have not yet been sentenced.

    And that is likely why there was a gag order – because they are minors. Same as what we have in Canada. Like it or not that is the law. If we don’t like it, get the law changed. Lord knows there are some juvenile’s who have been charged with crimes that I don’t want living next door to me.
