Europe envious

Great. After ruining their own countries with disastrous entitlement programs they want to come here? Just what we need.
We need to make more cuts to get our (admittedly small) deficit back under control. A further benefit is that maybe it will dissuade some of the entitlement hunters.

  1. Close the borders…NOW.And any effin leftard that thinks thats harsh, you can go to Eurotrashland now.And don’t come back.

  2. Isn’t that how parasites work? Just before they finish sucking the life out of their host, they jump to the next one?

  3. Oh no! Not more “Sid Ryans” wanting to come over here and wreak havoc!? Keep it quiet, Mr. Fisher. Our diplomats should be telling the ‘peans that our economy is in the tank.

  4. I know.
Let all Europeans emigrate only to Quebec, then cut off all transfer payments.

  5. Hey Canada…nice economy you got there. Be a shame if something happened to it.

  6. “The Greeks will have to export their way out of this mess.”
“Fool! The only export Greeks have is hard working Greek people!”
    Saturday Night Live skit excerpt.

  7. Being built up by European and British immigrants (French for Quebec) is more or less the story of Canada. Sir John A. was born in Scotland, for instance.
THAT SAID, I value such hard-working well-trained people, but I entirely agree that they are only acceptable when they have changed their politics.
I would allow Europeans and British to enter the country, only if they were forbidden to engage in politics at all levels for the rest of their lives.
They would then be second-class citizens, though their children should be admitted into full citizensship – tant pis!
The second approach would be to put it around that because of imminent war in Europe and the Middle East,
Canada was going to reintroduce conscription. That would scare them off! All but the really dedicated ones who we do want.

  8. The article lost credibility with the “Economic and genuine refugees from the Third World have become easy initial targets of right-wing extremists.”
History has long shown extremists don’t generally follow a specific political stripe.

  9. What a load of foolishness at the front of this thread. It’s the ones who want to work hard and have skills that emigrate. From all the “confine ’em to Quebec” and second-class citizen talk, it would seem that the lot of you approve of barbed wire and gulags.
What a disgusting display from a bunch who claim to be conservative and freedom-loving. Perhaps, justnotthinkin, the conservative movement in this country would be better off with them and not with you.

  11. Agreed, ejm.
I can’t speak for the comments, but for the most part the default setting at SDA is sarcasm.

  12. OK, let’s try another approach.
No European economic refugees allowed in Quebec.
    Still cut off transfer payments.

  13. All french people are welcome in Quebec, no problem.
Others are welcome only if they are francophile, otherwise they should go elsewhere in canada.
    That’s about it.

  14. The ones that want to come here are probably fed up with the European sytem and actually want to work for a living. Rather they than the muslim immigrants. At least we share a common history.

The smart ones do. That’s why Quebec is a basket case.

  16. If you cut welfare you will only get immigrants that want to work and build something. Much like those that came to this country over the past few hundred years. If we have a system where hard working citizens are suckers supporting lazy queue jumpers we will get the “new Canadians” we deserve.
Personally I believe we need immigrants that want to be honest, hard working, Canadians. And they do not come here looking for a free ride.
The vetting will be done all by itself.

  17. The small town near my home was settled in the early 1900s by immigrants from France, and the families of those settlers are still thriving in the area. And they all speak English just fine.
I’d welcome more immigrants from Europe, with 2 provisos: one, that they and their families come long-established European roots; and two, that they have skills or investment capital, and want to work or set up a viable business to support themselves. All actual immigrants should be required to sign a contract exempting them from welfare and UI for not less than ten years after arrival.

  18. Immigrants work hard, take care of their families and encourage their kids to do well in school.
We could use more of them.

  19. I’ve been encouraging everyone I know to donate to the Bloc Quebecois. It’s for a good cause, do your part.

  20. Give me a Chilean any day over an Englishmen from the ruined Nation its become under a bed full of traitors & welfare bums. Eastern Europeans aren’t doing bad either. Who needs a boat-full of people with a socialist disease.

We gladly welcome French speaking people in Alberta. The ones that move here are a lot more ambitious and a lot less whiny than their relatives back home. They quickly realize that la langue morte is irrelevant or a detriment to earning a living in the 99.99 % of the world outside Quebec.

  22. The progressive destroyed their countries now they wanna crack at destroying ours, no thanks no liberal Eurotrash please Kenny.
