  1. I am going to dig into my stay of 100watters and put one out on my balcony for everyone to enjoy.
And the BBQ is going to see 5 pounds of chicken & a couple of smoke pouches to grill AND make smoke pollution

  2. I figure earth night would be a good time to light up the back yard with the floods and give a workout to my new guitar amp – I might play a slick jazzy rendition of “it ain’t easy being green” for the enviro yuppies who live next door. I hear they planned some neolithic candle cerimony in the back yard. A good time to celebrate human techno eveolution.

  3. I told them I was blind and could not get around the house if all the lights were turned off!
    A sure winner:)

  4. Where I live it’s still light out so no need to turn lights off. But I will have at least 3 of my theatre type plasma tvs on

  5. I wrote ’em. Thanks to Lord Monckton & Kate who posted it at 12:46 March 12th.
“I certainly won’t be turning my lights off for this singular reason:
The cost of acting to prevent global warming is many times greater than the cost of inaction. Australia accounts for only 1.2% of global CO2 emissions, and the government’s carbon dioxide tax was to reduce this percentage by 5% over the ten-year life of the tax. On the generous assumption that the entire reduction would be achieved from year 1 onward, the fraction of global emissions abated would be just 0.06%. This means projected CO2 concentration of 412 ppmv that would otherwise obtain in the atmosphere by 2020 would fall to 411.987 ppmv. Because this reduction in CO2 concentration was so small, the warming abated over the 10-year period of the tax would be just 0.000085 C°, at a discounted cost of $130 billion over the ten-year term.
Ergo, the cost of abating the 0.15 C° of warming the IPCC predicted would occur between 2011 and 2020 using measures as cost-effective as Australia’s carbon dioxide tax would be $309 trillion, or $44,000 per head of the world’s population. Further, the cost of abating 1 C° of global warming would be $1.5 quadrillion. No way we can afford it. Period end of story.”

  6. Got to drain the gas out of my 2 stroke snowblower.
That’s a good time to do it. Figure it will run a good hour at least. Charcoal BBQ will be sparked up
with lots of smoke chips in it. Lots of winter dreck to be burned in the fire-pit as well. All this will be lit up by my 3 deck floodlights.
Any leftovers will be disposed of on April 22, Earth Day.

  7. I celebrate civilization. Those who want to live in the dark may. Those who want to have me live in the dark may not.

  8. I would like to watch my 50″ plasma TV at that time; unfortunately that is when the Leafs will be on. Ugh!!

  9. Pisses me off! This is what came down the crap chute called ‘Employee communication’ this morning:

On Saturday, March 31, 2012, many American Express locations around the world will participate in the sixth annual Earth Hour. This unique environmental event was created to make a statement about climate change. Last year, nearly one billion people participated in Earth Hour from 5,200 cities in 135 countries. More than 40 American Express locations have taken part in the past few years.
For one hour, between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. (local time), homes, businesses and cities are encouraged to turn off their lights to demonstrate that local action can help fight global warming and reduce energy use. This year participants are encouraged to keep their lights off beyond the hour.
Here in Canada, we will support Earth Hour by turning off lights from 8.30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. at our Markham Head Office. Throughout Earth Hour, all emergency and security lighting will remain on as usual and we will not be turning off the lights in the Call Centre areas in Phase 1.
How Can You Support Earth Hour?
There are a number of ways you can support Earth Hour, both in the office and at home:
    • Where appropriate, turn off your task lights and other non-essential electronic devices before you leave the office on Friday.
    • At home, turn off your lights between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. Not only will you help mark Earth Hour, you will also save energy and electricity costs.
Being involved in Earth Hour is a great way for all of us to support American Express’ environmental responsibility program. For more information about the global Earth Hour effort, visit http://www.myearthhour.org/home. To learn more about the company’s efforts to reduce the our carbon footprint and conserve resources, visit The Square > Our Company > Corporate Social Responsibility > Environment.
Thank you for your participation in Earth Hour. Stay tuned for information about Earth Day during the week of April 16th to 20th.

  10. “Vast numbers of people loath this sanctimonious celebration of luddism and poverty.”
    Very well put.
I personally find these types of “feel good” performances to be childish, unnecessary and tedious. However, if certain people feel the need to demonstrate their progressiveness, so be it. I will not be purposely using more electricity or creating extra pollution just because I’m too cheap, however I will opt out of their infantile little parade and carry on life as I normally do.

  11. I’m eagerly awaiting the first city to take up the challenge, and turn off all the street and traffic lights for an hour. Now that would make a great statement.

  12. Was it just me, or did Lightbulb, Model-T, Television then iPAD bug the hell out of anyone else? How about the first personal computer, or the inventor of the transistor? The iPad isn’t anything new, it takes technology that already exists and makes a smaller, less functional computer.
I half suspect it’s a way to win over some of the Apple fanboys/girls who would doubtless turn off their lights for Earth Hour.
No offense intended to iPad owners, just don’t think it belongs on the same list as the lightbulb, assembly line/car/truck and television. If that’s an example of today’s “progress” it’s indicative of a very sad state of innovation indeed.

  13. I sent this:
My wife and I will light our house up like a 747 and turn on every appliance to celebrate this special time. I have bought cigars which I will enjoy in the house. My truck and her car will idle in the driveway. Since Canada has one of the coldest climates on the planet, we hope to make a difference. Thank you for allowing us to show how we feel regarding a .038 % trace gas that we are being taxed on and partcipating in the biggest scam in human history. We do it for the children.

  14. I think my light bulb count well over 200.
will have somefun turning them all on, then go for a full sewer flush , all the toilets and all the taps.
I love the sound of meters spinning in the evening, it sounds like victory.

  15. Sorry, but I don’t see the point in wasting money to make a point. It’s gonna be life as usual in my house. That means 2 big sreen TVs going, as usual. Don’t forget, the big fight is gonna be on. Trudeau vs Brazeau is a can’t miss event.

  16. Once again,I’ll be on the road driving with my lights off. This year I may forgo the turn signals to make it special.

  17. As always, being the good sheeple I am, I shall give Earth Day the same consideration as all other “days”.
Whether it’s Diwali,Ramadan,or Ash Wednesday,I shall do what I damned well want in my own home and anyone who objects can go visit the Devil.

  18. I’ll be flying to Lax,no reading light for me and the in-flight entertainment hardly ever works so that shouldn’t be a problem.

  19. Ten inch, three horsepower, 25 year old, two stroke ice auger stands waiting for this years just announced challenger,…. Stihl 28 while “Keep On Rockin In The Free World” thunders from on high.
    Eat it Suzuki.

  20. Coach, think Brazeau will give that little Turdo a spanking he never got from his bi-go-daddy Peeair once he pummels the little loudmouth? Would be a nice cherry on top of the whuppin he will lay on that spoilt little fruitcake. Meanwhile more grand prognostications on todays news of dire consequences of “glowball warming”, Chicken Little on the Run “Suzuker” must be getting low on stolen funds.

  21. No.
Since Dalton has made my hydro so expensive no matter what I do, I intend to get my money’s worth.

  22. memo to American Express; I have been a member since 1977 and although there are several other Credit Card opportunities arriving in my mail, both snail mail and my regular mail, i have been loyal.
However, I am now considering the discontinuation of Amex use in favour of other cards until my aeroplan points have been used.
The only reason for me to reinstste Amex use will be when your politically correct human resource management open their eyes to the misleading information on AGW.
FYI to human resource management; AGW means Anthropogenic Global Warming which has been thoroughly discredited among all truly aware associations.
    Cheers;

  23. 1 Billion participants last year? 1 Billion people participated in last years Earth hour? I call BS on that number. If that number is remotely close (say within 900 Million give or take) I’m sure it included those with no electricity to begin with. It’s like when the CBC likes to take close up shots of reporters and turn around and say 33 million natural Liberal voting protestors turned up on Parliament Hill…
I can’t wait to turn every light on, start my car, crank the heat, turn the oven on 500 – with the door open right next to the open fridge. lol.
Seriously though, coach said “Sorry, but I don’t see the point in wasting money to make a point.” The money you would waste would probably be insignificant – but you’ll be helping to save the electrical grid from a dramatic drop in load followed by a dramatic rise as morons wake up from their hour long nap and do everything they would have done in the previous hour and the next all at once.
As if the laundry Mr. Liberal was going to do at 8pm is just going to sit for eternity and never be laundered. Oops this year’s Earth hour is right when I needed to bake this lasagna – I guess I’ll just throw it out.
You just know most of these people, relieved at ending the agony of the last hour spent offline in the dark, will overdo it in celebration of their own help saving the planet for another year probably to the point of over compensating…
The whole concept is unbelievably stupid.

  24. I just feel like God said it best. “Let there be light!”

This year, Saturday, March 31, is the eve before Palm Sunday. As such, we will be singing praises of Dominus Deus Sabaoth and celebrating the passion of Our Lord during the so-called earth hour. I suspect that, the secularization of the West notwithstanding, that there will be more people throughout the world recognizing Palm Sunday than the vacuous “earth hour”.

  25. I have this industrial sodium flood mounted on the porch post…awaiting it’s annual mission.
A 150 standard flood out back….and the porch lights…..Barn lights on. I should be visible from orbit.
Most years I have a loon drive in to advise me the error of my ways….I let the dog change their tyres….one year I had a Police Car show up….the cop said they had a complaint…he stayed for coffee.

  26. Link doesn’t work for me; gets a “not found” screen, and the direct link to the SMH home page hangs. Kate-a-lanche?
Just a shout out to those above who plan “business as usual” instead of a conspicuous celebration of Human Achievement Hour: doing nothing is not an option, just as not voting in an election is not an option. The “Earth Hour” Luddites will get to claim you as one of theirs. If every single one of us who finds Earth Hour stupid and offensive does nothing out of the ordinary, the sheeple who do follow it will carry the day, as evidenced by the drop in aggregate load on the grid. They can point to the sag in demand, pat themselves on the back, and smirk, “see, we made a difference.”
You don’t have to get crazily wasteful to celebrate Human Achievement Hour, although it’s probably more fun than going to a movie, and will cost you less. Just throw on a couple of outside lights that you would normally have off. Run your oven on the self-clean cycle if it’s so equipped. Needs to be done every so often, anyway, right? Do a load of laundry. Bake a pie. Simply shifting some of your energy consumption from other hours to that particular hour will go a long way toward negating the efforts of the greentards.

  27. Sent ’em this:
I will be turning on every light and electrical appliance I have at 8:30 PM EDT on Saturday, in opposition to the massive fraud by those who would enslave us. Thank you for reminding me of this farce! If not for you, I most likely would have missed it.
    –Mark Matis

  28. Great, Ontario will once again have to offload unused electricity at a cost. The money saved could have gone to the children…
I will be lighting up my house near the airport so all those passengers can see what a rebel I am.

  29. good thing my neighbor will have the mower running for hours, his wife will be able to moan loud while I pound her in the dark….dumb rednecks

  30. Would Jack Meoff be a spirit from beyond, perchance?
One way or the other, be off, I say!

  31. “1 Billion participants last year? 1 Billion people participated in last years Earth hour? I call BS on that number.”
Actually, it’s probably a much higher number, Steven. Unfortunately, most of the participants in the worldwide ‘darkness and silence’ flashmob had no choice. Not just for one day of vanity either, they live like that all year round and would love a life of bright lights and technology.

  32. “I’ll be flying to Lax,no reading light for me and the in-flight entertainment hardly ever works so that shouldn’t be a problem.”
Obviously you are flying Air Canada.

  33. Reed that’s exactly what i’m saying. I personally believe you can’t participate in Earth Hour if you have no electricity to “turn off” in the first place.

  34. Very true, Steven. (wasn’t meaning to disagree)
This whole ‘Earth Hour’ and similar events just represent a broadening of the conspicuous compassion phenomena. An unproductive guilt trip for those seeking to broadcast their ‘social awareness’.

  35. Flew home from Florida last night and it was clear all the way. The sea of lights from towns and cities were never out of sight. Toronto and the GTA was spectacular and lit up the night sky from horizon to horizon.
Understand North Korea will be the only country fully supporting Earth Hour by turning out its one light.

  36. If this blog had a ‘like’ button, my mouse would be worn out. Your audience is hilarious.
Me, just another wienie roast over an open fire pit fueled by used tires. Smoke baby smoke.

  37. Bemused, it is auto oven-cleaning day in our house as well, ’bout time too it’s getting pretty gicky in there.
