More than half of them are not cars–will our eco-oriented do-gooders notice? And what might they do, other than try to shove a Volt, stuffed with taxpayer money, down your throat?

Canadian sales of new cars and trucks opened the year on a resoundingly positive note, Statistics Canada suggested Wednesday.
The federal agency — which collects data on monthly retail sales in dollars and in the number of new vehicles sold in Canada — found a 15.4 per cent rise in vehicles sold in January to 153,623 units from 133,146 sold in December. That’s the fastest pace in more than 15 years, economist Robert Kavcic said Wednesday in a report by BMO Economics…
Among Statistics Canada’s other findings from January; passenger car sales rose 23.9 per cent to 71,539 units on increased sales of lower-cost vehicles…

  2. Down here on the Rock, the F150 rules. Not exclusively, of course: the stepdaughter’s partner drives a Tacoma.
    He tells me that in Louisiana people drive little other than trucks (politically correct: SUV) – even the police.

    It seems that 24 years at Ottawa U have robbed Ms. Jackman of the ability to read. Or maybe it is the proximity of Allan Rock former Lieberal Justice Minister and current President of Ottawa U.
    Here’s the part a Faculty of Law member does not understand.
    23. A person may transfer a firearm that is neither a prohibited firearm nor a restricted firearm if, at the time of the transfer,
    (a) the transferee holds a licence authorizing the transferee to acquire and possess that kind of firearm; and
    (b) the transferor has no reason to believe that the transferee is not authorized to acquire and possess that kind of firearm.
    Amazingly this person teaches law.

    When you take Canuckistans population,subtract kiddies and other non-workers,and leave out the latte crowds/leftards in the cities,all you have left is workers,most of who NEED trucks to do the jobs that keep the economy going. Oh. And for phil,ya I know welfare farmer bums don’t count,all 1% of them.

    As most law schools are in universities that is yet another reason to begin to close universities, I say with great pain, having spent the last 51 years in one or another of them.

    i personally have been looking at an m35 duece six by six multi fuel …it was for sale in the states fully restored cruised at 70mph , 52″ tires the bed of the truck could hold 40tons had winches both front and back and they guy was smart enough to get rid of the duelly rear tires and went with single tires better traction in snow and stuff.
    but i do not think i could drive it legally in canada the bumpers were to high they sat at about 5′ from the ground witch i beleive is illegal in canada .
    SO i had to pass but i wanted it soo bad this way when i see the jacked up ford cheve dodge toyota thinking they were the big dogs ..i could offer to transport there vehicle in mine.lol
    But the main reason was it would be a great farm truck problem i don’t have a farm so there for i have no where to put it till i get a farm ..lol.
    Love trux all kinds they are for the working man.

  8. The girlfriend bought a new Hyundai Elantra in December. She gave her 2005 Hyundai Elantra to her son. It has 200,000 km on it, but was still running like a top.
    I was there when she bought the new car, and I am impressed with the build quality of the car.

  9. Right now I have one of them Zoom zoom Mazdas which is great on gas, zooming around town and finding a parking spot. With a stick of course so as to have some fun going from point A to point B. Great little cars and built a lot better than the first generation of rice burners to grace the great white north forty years or so back.
    To do the heavy stuff, towing boats and seeing over snow banks I still rely on my Ford F-150 XLT 4X4 that can sleep six. There is always something about a pick-me-up truck that is reassuring.

  10. Damn hard to haul bales out to the cows on a Prius, bent the little Volt bad also, after it ran out of power before the cows had eaten. Meanwhile, real workers must drive trucks, Pembina/Sierra poofters, and Alan Rock, they should stick to bikes, but if some city hiker wants to drive a truck, or have his wife drive one, well that just proves he loves his family. Just have an accident in your “smart” car, mini van or on your bike you lefties, if you live, you’ll be running to buy a truck before you can say Suzuki’s a fraud. It’s all about a frame under you to absorb energy.

  11. Texas Canuck: Me too; Mazda3 hatch with a six speed manual and 2.5 litre engine. Razor harp handling and pretty quick.

  12. I have a large truck and a small car. I use either one as appropriate for the task at hand.
    I don’t limit my gun collection to one item either, for much the same reasons.

  14. 15 min from Ottawa and the mud and pot holes in the rural roads would swallow a volt.
    Drive a 350 dually diesel. As mentioned earlier the volt and the prius aren;t much use for people who actually work for a living.
