The Mindset of the Modern Left

Leftists the world over love to blather on & on about how “conservatives want to control your life”. In reality though, its the underlying notion of the Leftist mindset to shape everything around them into their view of Nirvana. This is done, at first, through a never-ending series of Rules & Regulations and Penalties. Here’s an example of the “Welcome” sign that greets visitors to the beaches of Santa Monica, California:

  1. I’ve seen the exact same thing on beaches in north Carolina. not sure it’s a partisan thing.

  2. Do you guys not understand the reason for the big long list? Its because mere citizens are not AUTHORIZED to enforce reasonable beach behavior. Therefore they list the behavior which has been criminalized as an aid to police and the courts, not to encourage good behavior.
Those who give up freedom for security shall have neither. Otherwise know as, if somebody flies a Frisby at you its better to smack him yourself than get Big Brother to do it.

It is to provide presumptive “notice” that will allow the police to make an arrest on first violation. Santa Monica beaches are or were magnets for these problems: homeless, insane homeless, mentally ill homeless, punk moderate to low dangerous grade gangstas, European tourists, and barfing British yuppies. The clothes thing is about the Euros and the homeless. The Brits acting like jerks (especially the women) has declined recently. I compliment the economic down turn for that.
Yes, Santa Monica has nanny state problems, but that sign is not one of them. They also aim the beaches to be “family friendly,” as opposed to Venice beach to the south.

Yes, that’s what I said. Cops have to be the ones to school the “homeless, insane homeless, mentally ill homeless, punk moderate to low dangerous grade gangstas, European tourists, and barfing British yuppies.” Cops do it.
Because -you- are forbidden from doing so.
“Yes, Santa Monica has nanny state problems, but that sign is not one of them.”
I disagree. That sign -defines- the problem. The very existence of that sign and the government machinery that produced it IS the problem. That’s why Robert posted it.
“There oughta be a law!” Well, now there is one. For everything. Happy?
