For the record, I’ve actually experienced -50C weather before. Years ago, when I lived up in Lynn Lake, I distinctly remember one day when I was walking on a frozen lake and it was that temperature outside. Thank goodness I had on a balaclava, thick toque, double-gloves and much more extreme weather gear.
Now lets send Dr. Fruit Fly up to the North Pole and tell the children that it is melting up there.
What else would you expect at this time of year in the Garden Spot of the Arctic.
And your neighbors pretty far to your south with all the horrible tornadoes — Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia. (I live in MN which has been downright balmy most of this winter.)
BRRrrr don’t let the “brass monkeys” out, (old joke), they tend to get their balls frozen off.
Don’t slam the truck tailgate, they tend to shatter at those temps.

and sadly for the goreacle, the average world temperature is now .56 C LOWER than when his infomercial for carbon credits ‘won’ it’s oscar…
Hyper-frigid temperatures are a natural result of global warming.
Heat from the troposphere causes dyslexic perambulations in the magma that affects the CO2 levels, especially in algae and other advanced life forms. Algore predicted all this.
Lynn Lake? My best friend moved there in 1976. he got a promotion and moved to the metropolis of Churchill. Had to carry a shotgun at all times, when the polar bears were in town. I wonder if that town still has the same traditions, when it comes to firearm possession?

I’d rather have the snow we got Friday night than those awful tornadoes. Dozens dead. A 2-year-old girl was found (alive!) in a field 10 miles from home – mom, dad, and two other siblings did not survive the storm.
Can’t complain about the winter we had in Wisconsin.

Most of those high winds and tornadoes stopped when they hit those wonderful string of beautiful peaks..

Actually i just checked on the Weather Channel site; it is currently -54F
In the Peace region of Northern BC (Dawson Creek/FSJ, etc) It is regularly -45 in the winter. This year it was very warm compared to the 3 previous with only a week of very cold weather as opposed to a month or two.
It’s no fun at all. But ultimately bundle up, -40 doesn’t feel very different from -20, but exposure will freeze you much faster (obviously)

I have never enjoyed -49, however I was exposed to -46゜C on 2 different occasions, both times in central Manitoba. That reminds me, I don’t miss line-cutting, not one bit.

I live in Northern BC where these temperatures are normal every winter. Keep praying for a bit of global warming but not much luck so far.
I have worked outdoors in the arctic for some years now, and have spent some days changing the engine on a helicopter in -49c with winds 50 gusting 70k. We promised that we would call the game on account of weather if it made it to -50, which of course it wouldn’t.
Ah, the good old days, when I wasn’t good and wasn’t old.

Not likely. Eureka IS Environment Canada – it’s their weather station on Ellesmere Island. The only people who live there are Environment Canada employees and contractors (although the military occasionally drops in to Fort Eureka by the airport).

I once walked out into -53C in High Level. It was like walking into a wall! Thank goodness there was no wind, but even the draft created by walking was noticeable on my face.
Gawd, how I love Calgary’s balmy Chinook winters!
My personal record is -50 C, in good old Saskatoon. Quite bracing. Only minor frostbite.
