The wing-nuts questioned why firearm enthusiasts hated the registry?
Not that the Tories are going to do anything about the warrant-less search and seizure parts of C68. Oh, no. You have no rights when there may be the tinkling of an idea that a firearm may be somehow involved. Even if, you know, one isn’t.
Where are last weeks defenders of warrant requirements now?
I truly hope this ‘free’ and law-abiding citizen sues the pants off of everyone involved. Then I hope that they are left destitute and lose what-ever certifications these social scientists had.
Oh, but it’s alright though, it’s for the children, “Our community would have an expectation if comments are made about a gun in a house, we’d be obligated to investigate that to ensure everything is safe.”
Cause, you know, if you aren’t with them, you’re with the child pornographers, or something like that.
Update: Ezra: h/t Occam

They are Johnny on the spot for this. But let Vancouver burn.
Gawd, what wimps Canucks are, who allow being told themselves what to be. Citizens defensesless in thought, law, and ambition.
A second world people, possible of much more, if only they could throw off their introspective, self-imposed chains.
But, at least, Canadians can say “We are NOT Americans!”
We should sponsor a National Make A Drawing of A Gun At School Day, with prizes for the best drawings.
They can’t search ALL of our houses, can they?
And people wonder why no one respects the police any more.
Your house is robbed? Call the insurance company, and some bored looking cop will show the next to record the event… if you’re lucky.
But if a toy gun, or LEGO gun, or picture of a gun is involved…. takedown, stripsearch, and your children are being grilled by strangers.
What a sad joke law enforcement has turned into under the guidance of the politicians and the panderers.
Oh, that can’t be right. Plastic toy guns don’t arrest a man, jail him without charge or explanation, because his daughter draws a picture. The police, abetted by Family and Children’s Services and decades of corrupted “family law”, do that all by themselves.
I’m with you, lance. I hope he sues everyone in sight. But, given the mess that our social workers have made out of family law, I fear he has little hope of redress.
Little Sally saw a gun being carried into the local mosque. I’m teaching her how to draw.
Sad! How many decades did it take for the lunatics to take over the asylum?
Watching Stossel tonight does not help my mood either. Everybody is a criminal today. That is the way the Liberals and their monster Trudeau wanted it.
There terrorists are 100% on board with this kind of behavior but if someone is convicted of A REAL CRIME then hell no don’t send them to jail… give them a hug and send them on there way.
Ezra Levant did a story on this tonight and he’s 100% correct about the Liberal media not caring ONCE AGAIN. Where the hell is the outrage you pieces of complete trash?
Four-year-old daughter? So this is Dalton’s all-day kindegarten. Great deal for the taxpayer.
Since when is it illegal to own a gun in Canada?
old Lori @ 12:19
You nailed it. When my vehicle was broken into the police said call insurance. When I was rear-ended by a guy talking on a cell phone, police said ‘not enough damage, call insurance”…A kid draws a picture of a gun and she gets a couple car loads of cops? WTF????
Little wonder that firearms owners – the most law abiding segment of the population by far – fear police more than they do criminals nowadays. What has this country become in the last 20 years? Rhetorical question, don’t bother answering.
This is how it works in Canada.
I had my car broken into across the street from a police station. They stole the stereo. I walked across the street and they wouldn’t even come and have a look. Phone insurance. You walk down the street in Victoria and every other bum wants to sell you dope. What are the police on the lookout for? Seat belts, cell phones, etc. Leave the real criminals alone since that’s a lot of work and just a waste of time.
a friend of mine just applied for his resticted firearms possession and aquistion certificate.
he told me tonight he got a call from the rcmp wanting to know if he is suicidal, on medication etc. etc.
they told him they might call again or just show up at his place.
this fellow is a farmer, and to my knowledge never been in trouble with the law, yet gets treated like this.
if he wanted to commit suicide he could go stand in front of a train.
i think it has more to do with some power trippin idiots, who really shouldn’t have this possition to start with.
this used to be a great country…….today..not so much!
That’s what liberals are all about. They scream about freedom and all that when it comes to allowing police with a warrant to wiretap your internet connection. Something that has no impact on your life even if the police mistakenly investigate you and some judge mistakenly allows them to you will not be hampered in any way. You would not even be aware of it occurring until afterwards.
But when it’s your real freedom it’s a different story. When you want to own a gun well the state must do a full investigation into your life. You need to be questioned, searched and subjected to scrutiny.
If you want to get on a plane you get to be strip searched by some mall cop. No liberal outrage about that. This prevents us from “profiling” so everyone is treated like a terrorist, even grandma and my kids.
You drive through a road block in BC and you are unable to blow a breath sample you lose your car for 90 days NO APPEAL. No problem for liberals at all.
You offend someone and they get their feeling hurt you get hauled in front of a kangaroo court. No problem that’s cool with them.
These peopl are the enemy. It is time to treat them as such. Breitbart at the CPAC said it’s time to use their damn tactics and he’s right.
@ This is how it works in Canada
Funny. Loved it.
Where are all those freedom loving leftists (Liberals, NDP, MSM) who are hysterical over Bill C-30? It isn’t that I don’t also have some concerns about the present wording of this proposed law, but one either stands for freedom or one does not. There is no place for cafeteria style freedom.
The lieberal outrage over the internet surveillance bill versus their tacitly condoning the warrant-less search and seizure provisions of the Firearms Act clearly illustrates the unfathomable depth of their hypocrisy.
If this guy was a liberal , he ain’t anymore.
Sue until they bleed.
It is totally legal for a father to possess a real gun to shoot monsters. Why would there be an assumption that there would be an unsafe situation? They know where millions of guns are located. Why don’t they start kicking down doors to make sure they are all safe. I admire Americans who open carry guns just to have the wimps settle down when they see a gun. The police asked him to sign permission to invade his house after the fact. I wonder if there was a lawsuit how after the fact the police say it would be.
I told u people about the police years ago.
It Is a contemptible occupation, and most of them r scum
In the 80s it was black s and Indians. Today its crackers.
Like I said, id sooner trust a criminal than a fn pig
Go ahead, tell me that I’m wrong.
“Your papers, please.”
I think some big huge f-ing lawsuits might be in order. Maybe to be brought by some national gun owners associations. Or gee whiz, how about some of these human rights organizations that seem to have endless money to throw around at Christmas to make sure nobody puts a Nativity scene at city hall.
My MP and MPP will be hearing from me tomorrow, its too late right now. I am tired of this sh1t going down in my country.
Ezra’s on fire about this tonight:
http://goo.gl/7UFBZ
And here’s a link to the CBC’s coverage:
Just kidding.
This happened in the elementary school I went to, so I’ve been following the story.
First of all, Dad happens to have a criminal record for violent offenses. So yes, it’s illegal for him to own a gun, and it’s not entirely outrageous for the police to take a report of a known violent ex-con possessing a gun somewhat seriously.
Second, there’s no actionable offense here he can sue them for. In Canada, there’s pretty much no such thing as “false arrest”; all you can do is sue for “malicious prosecution”. Since the Crown attorney never pressed charges and he was released as soon as the case was presented to the DA, no grounds there.
In Canada, the police have virtually no restrictions on what they can do so long as they pay lip service to the process; the law assumes the police are always acting in good faith unless you can prove otherwise, and good luck with that.
Lest you think that warrant vs. warrantless matters one whit, in Canada “probable cause” is not necessary for a warrant, just “a scintilla of evidence”.
As ridiculous as this story sounds, it’s just business as usual.
Daniel Ream,
I get so tired of people pronouncing on Canadian law, and using terms like “DA”. It indicates your legal knowledge comes from watching Judge Judy.
Everyone is vulnerable. Busybodies break the rules too. There are so damn many rules and regulations, use them. Nothing like being hoisted on their own petard.
And yet many people have no concerns with Bill C30. It is like the gun registry fiasco on steroids.
Boy, wait until Hudak hears about this…
“boy, wait until Hudak hears about this…” @ Jamie MacMaster, 6:59 AM. Now that is funny!
I don’t even know whether or not I should say this, internet monitoring and all. This Christmas I bought my 8 year old son his first gun. Of course its in my safe and registered in my name and he can only use it with me, but still. Its his. (that was the idea anyway, for a variety of reasons I decided to wait for his birthday to give it to him) I will now have to tell him about story and ensure he never says anything about this to anyone. At least it should have the advantage of making him a conservative from a young age. For those interested its a nice little walnut stocked Ruger 11/22.
I was tormenting the tards at the Glob And Wail when one of their special olympians posted something to the effect that ‘If yer against gun control – how can you support the e-snooping bill?’ The libtards high fived themselves on the back over that scholarly insight.
I responded ‘Well – if you are all for illegal search and seziure, confiscation of property without a receipt, loss of the right to remain silent – which are all embedded in our gun laws – then you libtards should be all FOR the e-snooping bill!’
Funny – it seems that my comment got inadvertently deleted!
This is outrageous. The teacher, principal, cops and social workers should be fired. Ontario has become a basket case of PC thinking with the flavour of the week being gun ownership. The scary part is, what will the flavour be next week. It is a bleak future for those who stand for the individual over the common good. Some old men over in Russia are probably smiling right now, seeing the fruits of many years of labour and state resources years ago, finally coming to fruition.
Well isn’t that what the left wanted to achieve via turning police officers into police services providers? They provided a service to the educational system and the twits at child welfare-sic- and in return the state get’s to abuse the unwashed masses. About time someone took on the educational system in Ontario, busing kids to union events, forcing kids to write slogans for the occupy filth movement, now this.
This is why you should get charged for a violent criminal offense. The Principal needs a punch in the mouth.
The dad also signed a paper authorising a search. Never give up your rights.
Thank God for Sun News. Would this have got any TV play?
Daniel Ream said: “As ridiculous as this story sounds, it’s just business as usual.”
Yes, we know. That’s the point though, isn’t it? The word of a four year old child is sufficient evidence to get you locked up, your children taken and your house tossed? How is that good? How can we let something like that stand and go on pretending Canada is a free country?
This time it was some clown with prior convictions. Next time its ME with no priors just because the teacher was feeling cranky about the White Male Hegemony that day.
Even if the guy has priors, and even if some of the cops think he’s still dirty (for which there is no evidence in the story, incidentally), how much MONEY got burnt up in this little fiasco? How many police man-hours were expended on the say-so of a TODDLER?
Frankly I’m not sure which is worse here, the abject bureaucratic stupidity of the process, the sheer abuse of a supposedly innocent man and his entire family, or the titanic waste of my taxes.
The Cold War isn’t over at all. It’s simply been imported to the West. Kyrie eleison.
Of course, this is what all-day kindergarten for three-year olds is really all about: Spy on Mommy and Daddy. Let the state know what goes on behind closed family doors — even if it’s pure fiction, illustrated by a fanciful toddler. Teachers and principals become KGB snoops and snitchers.
As Glenda Jackson/Queen Elizabeth I used to shout at whatever outrage, “GOD’S TEETH!”
N of 60 @ 2:12 AM, exactly. Mind you, Vic Toews’s bill does not exactly express freedom from arbitrary police actions against individuals.
fiddle @ 5:50, this has been the aim all along of left-Liberal policies, which is to pass enough laws or bylaws so that everyone is a criminal just waiting to get picked up. This permeates our federal, provincial and even municipal laws and bylaws.

Since when is it illegal to own a gun in Canada?
Posted by: Dirtman at February 25, 2012 12:51 AM
It is a criminal code offense to possess a gun in Canada without the lawful excuse of holding a licence. The licence doesn’t really make it legal so much as prevent you from being convicted for the period you are licenced. Let the licence lapse and you are a criminal most certainly.
Getting social services involved is a fool’s game. Any teacher who’s done it says, “Never again”. I’ve known teachers who became the object of the investigation and ones who’ve been harassed by the kids’ parents. When the teachers appealed to administration to intervene to stop the harassment, no go.
So, teachers are “required” to report, and then, it seems, are “required” to deal with the fallout all on their own. The unions? No use either. They’re left-wing activists: their brains are in permanent hibernation mode. The social workers? Ditto.
The increased misuse of rules and regulations, with malice, by “official” Canada is truly alarming. With too many of our overlords ignoring the constitutional rights of their citizens, the “free” world is becoming more and more like a particular country in 1933. In that country, the rule of law got shoved aside all over the place and law-abiding citizens were harassed, bullied, and ordered to believe this and that and do this and that. And we know how that ended up. The noose is tightening. Thank God for Sun News: no wonder our “betters’” noses are so out of joint!
Yea just watch, we’ll have some liberal Turdo appointed judge sentence Graham James to house arrest with leave granted to attend and participate in gay pride parades. This is the end result of political correctness/forced stupidity. Turdo was a moron, the dullards at the CBC fawned over his intellect because they had none and still have none, but the damage he did to Canada continues to haunt us.
That’s a Ruger 10/22. I hadn’t had coffee yet when I wrote that post.
You wonder how the police involved sleep at night.
Is there any law that these policemen would quit the force over as a matter of conscience, rather than enforce?
I think allowing unions among policemen was one of the worst things the radical left ever brought to the civilized world.
See the John Stossel special that Ken ( Kulak ) referred to, if you wish to see more sickening examples of this type of police behavior.
“Waterloo Regional Police Insp. Kevin Thaler said there was a complaint from Forest Hills public school that “a firearm was in a residence and children had access to it. We had every concern, based on this information, that children were in danger.””
Even without reading the article, just knew it had to be Morontario or Behind Commies land.Isn’t lying to the brown shirts still a crime? And Inspector? Howsabout leftard flunky, commisar? And yes,the WORST thing any freedom loving,right-minded conservative Canuck can do in the current state of affairs is call the cops expecting ANY help.Remember that they are now there only for power trips and to arrest honest citizens, not criminals, because without criminals, the “justice” system flunkies would be out of a job.
Now excuse me.I gotta go call some Yank friends, and see about getting a Canadian branch of the NRA started up here.
@small c conservative: The police sleep very well, safe in the knowledge that they aren’t going to be in any trouble at all since the wimp father involved in this story signed an authorization for the search.
If he had refused to sign, no matter what threats the police initiated, he would have had the chance for some legal action. He caved, he signed, he lost.
The police derive all their strength from the support of the policed. This doesn’t help them. Or us.
And now they want access to our email and internet activity. I barely trust todays police to give out traffic tickets and I am more than old enough to remember otherwise. What I think is saddest about this entire affair, no one, thought that just maybe we phone the father and have a meeting with him. What went on here is attrocious and unfortunately it will just be tomorrows new soon as we wait for the next absurdity related to guns. With the registry being gone soon, or parts of it, you can count on the police to use their new internet powers to search out information on gun owners, I think that is what C30 is about. Let them get warrants just like they always have. Sorry, I got off topic, these two stories have my blood boiling.
“You walk down the street in Victoria and every other bum wants to sell you dope. What are the police on the lookout for? ”
They found the Victoria Chief of Police’s loaded handgun under the seat of his police chief’s car the other day. Broke every rule in the book, an actual crime committed, not some suspected-maybe-could be-possibly-if there was a blue moon “crime”.
No arrest or whatever, just an internal “reprimand”.
Double justice standard or what.
And remember crime isn’t down in Canada.
Reported crime is down in Canada.
Because it is a waste of time to report crime, even ones that happen spitting distance of a building full of police.
Maybe it was coffee break or someone dropped off free donuts.
The registry may be gone but the criminalization of non-criminal civilian possession remains – along with all the jack-booted, neurotic nanny state mindset needed for its abusive enforcement.
Aside from the fact the police reacted without evidence or reasonable suspicion and made a false arrest – kids and family were abused by nanny state busybodies who feel it is their duty to reinterpret and enforce the gun laws as it befits paranoid neurotic nanny state administrators.
We can only hope this guy has the self-respect to nail those meddling invasive social services and school officials to the wall with a large law suit. Crap like this happens far too often and the public sector/police administrators need to be sent a message this is unacceptable behaviour in a free democratic society. SUE THEM ALL!!
