  2. Thanks for this, Kate. I’ve forwarded the article to Michelle Malkin. While reading the article I couldn’t stop thinking of past comments I’ve seen/heard from Americans & Canadians of Asian descent that have demonized anyone who “dared” walk out of the Leftist Cult – ie. dared espouse conservative views.
    Now their liberal tenets of affirmative action are coming back to bite them and their children.
    To them I have just one thing to say: You now shall reap what you’ve sown!

  3. After the brouhaha over female enrollments in science in math, Harvard’s president finally had to admit that “ability” doesn’t actually exist, and they eliminated entrance requirements.
    Fred captured our academic insanity in this light-hearted piece:

  5. UBC recently changed its admissions policy to make it more wishy-washy, with far less weight now being given to high-school grades. They claim it is to provide a more balanced admission process, which is just code for saying they are trying to reduce the number of Chinese students that are accepted.
    Many Chinese kids work their asses off to get into university (pushed heavily by their parents), and good for them if they do. But I’m not always sure that they are necessarily any brighter in the long run than the kids who score slightly less than them.
    All that said, Kate’s headline is quite correct – the black race mongers are always looking for a scapegoat to blame so that they don’t have to address their own deficiencies. If it is not the whites, it is the Asians, and if its not the Asians its the Jews, and so forth.

  6. The problem with Asian students is that all they do is study. Admissions officers are looking for more transformative candidates, ones who will fight for social, economic, environmental, and sexual justice.
    Fifty years from now, Americans will look back and say “Remember when we were a great nation? What happened to us?”

    UBC is my alma mater. I have donated $300 per year to them for a couple of decades. I am considering stopping it.
    Not just due to their admissions policies, but also their education program, which has been revamped along “social justice” lines.

  8. Robert W., my wife is Asian. I’ve made many Asian friends, almost all of them immigrants, and I’ve never heard a single one of them espouse any left-wing entitlement sentiments. All of them expect their children to work hard at school, and to get out and earn their own way. Not one has a child living at home after they’ve finished university. They’ve never been on welfare, UI, or on strike. I think your generalization is based on limited experience.
    Of course, this article does worry me – my girls are an Asian-white mix, so apparently they’ll have a double whammy against them.

  9. Yup, yellow is the new white, as Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans practice the “Protestant work ethic” which most white Protestants have given up.
    It is tough on Asians – first discriminated against because of their cultures and skin cultures, now because of their work ethic.
    However, those that get into university are well-liked by their profs. Guess why?

  10. KevinB-same here. All the Asians I know are hard-working no nonsense people. My grandkids are Asian-white as well. Hope they don’t get shortchanged because of that.

  11. Kevin, you’re lucky. I’m inundated with “progressive” Asian & Indian friends here in Vancouver. One in particular, who I defriended a long time ago, grew up in America & Asia with a silver spoon in her mouth. She ended up going to Yale.
    When she got here to Vancouver with her even wealthier Chinese-Canadian husband, everything was fine at first. But then the 2008 American Presidential campaign occurred. In the course of that I was told that I was: selfish, greedy, stupid, & racist if I “dared” not support Barack Obama.
    In the case of non-Caucasian single females, I sense that many of them go the extra mile to exert their “progressive” inclinations mostly as a way of striking out at the repression they feel they suffered under their strict fathers. One wonders if these learned views are directly related to the amount of Women’s Studies courses they took at university?!

  12. rabbit you are absolutely correct about UBC. Indeed I think they are trying to become the most left-wing university in the country.
    Even their engineering program is slowly being turned into a social justice program. It’s downright creepy.
    It is very depressing to see what has happened to UBC over the last 10 years, and at this point I think it is wrong that they get taxpayer dollars. Universities were *never* intended to be institutions of propaganda and indoctrination, but that is exactly what UBC is becoming. No matter what the left-wing cause is, UBC’s response is always “how high would you like us to jump?”. It is also depressing to see how quickly research being done by profs at UBC has descended into pseudo-research in the name of supporting the left-wing agenda.

    Suzuki was born in Vancouver. My wife, who was an immigrant, would often remark that her biggest fear was our girls would get “white people disease” – the idea that the world owes them something. Obviously, Fruitfly had it from the get go.

  17. I really appreciate the presence of Asian students/scientists/professionals in Canada. I like their matter-of-fact attitude towards getting the job done. It’s great that Asian women tend not to be particularly intimidated by math. They just kind of roll over it.
    I also like the fact most Asians are quite frank about the hard work they put in in order to get the results. A lot of (non-Asian) guys adopt an attitude of sprezzatura – along the lines of: “why, I polished off this Calculus text in ten minutes or so … don’t tell me you found it challenging?”. I’m sure some men learn math this way, but the current state of climate science research indicates that most do not. A lot of women get the impression that there is something wrong with them if they can’t learn math by inhaling the aroma of the textbook.
    Years ago I had to write a standardized technical exam. I went in woefully underprepared, sat through the entire exam in an increasing state of panic, but had enough presence of mind to void the exam before I got out of there. I went around for the next 24 hours in a puddle of tears, then pulled myself together and interviewed everyone I knew who had passed the exam. An Asian guy who had scored astronomically was quite frank about the preparation required, and did not adopt any attitude of superiority at all. I buckled down, emulated his methods as best I could, rewrote the exam some time later, and did very well. I’ve always appreciated he took the time.

  18. Suzuki was born in Vancouver to Japanese parents who lost everything and were relocated to internment camps during the war. No doubt this was a big influence in his attitude toward round-eyes and Canada. It’s not surprising that he’s no fan of the white-capitalist system, while at the same time lavishly enjoying all it’s benefits. If he was white, nobody would be paying attention to his propaganda.

    A lot of white kids spend most of their time in high school partying instead of studying and developing math and science skills. Then go to college, party with their friends a lot and get some liberal arts degree because their math and science skills weren’t very good. Now they’re competing with thousands just like them for hundreds of liberal arts degree jobs. Meanwhile the unpopular nerds, often Asian, who studied hard, didn’t party, and got technical degrees have the good paying jobs.
    The spoiled white kids live with their parents complainin­g to all their farcebook friends, writing their blog, going to occupy protests, and twittering their inconseque­ntial thoughts to people who don’t care, instead of getting up off their lazy asses and getting a real job. Life is easy in mom’s basement, why change?

  22. Oh oh the left has it all backwards again. Blacks get special treatment because they can’t make the grade due to discrimination, and Asians are discriminated against because they overachieve.
    Bloody hell the damned whites are at it again!
    White people should just walk out of their homes (undamaged homes) and just cut their wrists in the streets. That’s all we deserve, to die and leave it all for the loving Asians and Blacks to have so that they will get along with each other forever after in a perfect utopian world.

  23. You guys have this all wrong. Universities are run by Lefties, and as we know (because they never -ever- shut up about it) Lefties love EVERYBODY.
    They love the Black Man, the Yellow Man, the Red Man, hell they even love the White Man.

  24. The little nerd in my school is now a specialist MD. He’s not Chinese but that’s not the point. The bugger worked his ass off while I coasted and now I get to walk by his office when I take my son, who is Chinese by the way, to the the specialist. The world is full of Karma 🙂 And good on the little nerd, he was a nice guy and a hard worker, he earned what he has and if he’s in the 99% and I’m not I’ll still stand up for him because that’s what is right.

    sociology based busywork among the homeless, downtrodden, and leftist politically entitled minority front groups.

  26. Regarding UBC and it’s varying standards for various protected classes, I’ve still got the brochure around somewhere specifying the admissions requirements for the Aboriginal Teachers program.
    It was an attempt to attract more Aboriginals to the teaching profession, with the idea that they would go back into their communities as role models that Aboriginal students could relate to and emulate.
    The standards for entry required….. a 50% grade in math, english and sciences. It’s another of those ‘road to hell is paved with good intentions’ programs – semi-skilled, semi-trained and semi-qualified ‘Aboriginal Teachers’ going back to raise the next generation.
    It is again the bigotry of low expectations.

    That is the cruelest bigotry of all. Praise minorities and lie to them, just setting them up for a big failure at a later date.
    At big US schools a lot of unprepared minorities are granted admission to law school. Then they get to spend 3 more years at school only to fail the colorblind bar exam. Every one should sue for 3 wasted years.

  30. We are all now paying for the failure to repatriate the black people to Africa after the American civil war.
    Abraham Lincoln fully supported their repatriation through American Colonization Society.
    The intelligent leaders of the time foresaw the problems we now have today. Now it has become a no win situation of decline, from culture to a culture of violence, an equally unskilled and uneducated service society of slaves.
