The NDP’s Claims of Compassion are Failing … Badly

The Calgary Herald’s Naomi Lakritz wrote a most interesting column yesterday about NDP MPs Pat Martin & Nycole Turmel stepping all over the wishes & legacy of Jack Layton:

What was it that Jack Layton wrote in his deathbed letter? “Love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So, let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.”
How quickly we forget. Or at least, how quickly NDP MP Pat Martin has forgotten. So has interim NDP leader Nycole Turmel, who, you’d think, would at least put on a facade of discipleship as Layton’s handpicked successor. Sadly, their reaction to Senator Pierre-Hugues Boisvenu last week contained nothing loving, hopeful or optimistic in tone and message.
And Martin, who stooped to the disgusting act of calling the grieving Boisvenu a vulgar name, appears to think anger is way better than love. No world-changing agenda, there – except maybe to help civility, compassion and empathy follow the dinosaurs down the road to extinction.

Charles Adler & Lakritz discuss her column here. More from Adler here.

  1. NDP MP Pat Martin the Member for Drumheller, representative for dinosaurs, resorts to goring the opponent.
Yep, that’ll get you peace love and understanding.
So far we have witnessed, rancor, spite and stupidity.
    I suspect he doesn’t know Jacques….

  2. Quite Frankly, I agree with the NDP – Hanging is “too good” for them – the murderers such as Paul Bernardo, serial killers, cop killers and killers of children should be “hung, drawn and quartered!”

  3. Only the MSM thought Taliban Jack wrote that.
He would have been laying there comatose for days
    Dippers liars to the end.
Jack always on the take even in death
And the dips never did say he died of cancer, they just let that assumption ride, Olivia not being as skilled at lying prefered no comment when asked

  4. cal2- precicely!
The whole thing was a sham from the get go. The backroom conivers concocted the touchy-feely missive to ride a wave of sympathy towards Jackoff.
Of course CBC and the MSM shills ran with it for all it was worth!
Not an ounce of shame to be found.

  5. Unless I’m missing something I can assure you that the people of Drumheller would not elect an NDP MP to represent them.

  6. happy infidel, not likely, as if my memory serves me, Pat represents on the most red areas of Winnipeg. There are plenty of votes for the various shades of communist in that riding.
This whole bunch of leadership hopefuls reminds me of the succession maneuvering by the Bolsheviks after Lenin went to that great socialist utopia down below.

  7. The ndpeepee has their panties in a bunch over this but they are ok with abortion and assisted suicide. Words fail.

  8. Jack Layton can’t rule from the grave….politics goes on…besides Jack was no philosopher…so it’s doubtful he wrote that on his death bed..but who really cares anyway…//

  9. Martin’s the MP for Winnipeg-center,which I assume is South of Wpg-North Center, the only place in North America that ever elected a member of the Communist Party to Parliament.
Maybe it’s Orlikow’s old Riding. Jack Layton probably DID die of prostate cancer metastasized into his pelvis, thus the broken hip and cane. There’s no reason to believe he had AIDS.
    And,NO,I didn’t like him either.
And NO, he didn’t write that last letter any more than I wrote the works of Shakespeare.

  10. Er, dmorris, perhaps you should have said, “there’s no reason to believe he had AIDS, except sheer meanness”.
Because that one works for me…

  11. @ Grandad:
Not to worry, Pat Martin would be a ‘dead dinosaur’ in Drumheller if he ever chose to run there. I just used him as a tool to draw a contrast…though I believe the real dead dinosaurs are much loved among the pre-history enthusiasts.

  12. Anyone with even scant knowledge of Martin, can’t help being appalled. Pat is a disgusting self-hating sewer dweller, dying to escape his closet.
Frankly, not worth any more of my time….

  13. “It’s the way we communicate with each other.”
This is a prime example of a particular type of NDP fool; they spend some time in a blue collar job and then act like they’re “one of the people”. Yeah, when I was in construction or a factory that was the way we talked sometimes, but when we were in other circumstances we had enough class to know it. But martin can’t let it go because he thinks the “lower classes” like it.

  14. This just goes to show that the NDP would rather side with pedophiles and murderers than the victims and their families. And people wonder why I believe the left are all mentally ill and dangerous to society.

  15. I put the ‘Jack Layton death bed letter’ in the same category as avocado coloured appliances. Same schlock different pile. Stale, outdated, bland, unbecoming, embarrassing.

  16. Angry Man, strikes again. The NDPEE comic book hero Angry Man, aka Pat Martin strikes again in a vicious attack against a senator who spoke what 80% of canadians agree with. Yes Angry Man Pat, your comrades at Turmels office are right now having your cape made from Jacks last bed sheets, the giant AM is being designed and made by union losers, so it could be a while.

  17. Those of us who have watched someone die from cancer know that Jack did not write that letter on his deathbed. Not possible.
What IS entirely possible is that the whole story is a lie.

  18. Dippers, compassionate socialists?? LOL, gimme a break, just look at the dower bloodless hard core commie drones the party has on the leadership platform. Since ex BQ Quebec commies bailed on the sinking Duceppe ship and ran on Dipper tickets and won some seats, this is the faction which now owns the party. I suspect this new Franco-Marxist sullen dogmatism will not sell outside Quebec. Dips better prepare to cut loose at least 20 seats in the next GFE.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – Criminals with “dangerous offender status” should face the death penalty in Canada. Amendment: perps convicted of first-degree murder in killing cops should also face execution.

  20. “…how quickly NDP MP Pat Martin has forgotten…”
You cannot forget something you never knew!
This bone-head’s brain short cicuits when he gets near a microphone.

  21. Why exactly is it so hard to believe he died of AIDS? The way he seemed to wither away before our eyes seems to speak to the symptoms. All his trips to the rub and tug “massages” would also speak to the diagnosis. Just sayin…

  22. Unfortunately, the death bed letter has been successfully injected into Canadian Political Lore, just as Tommy Douglas has been canonized as the “Greatest Canadian”.
We can only hope that PMSH continues to be demonized by his opponents for another 10 to 15 years.
