  1. Politico’s Jonathan Martin on the matter of the Republican contenders’s scorched earth policy:
“From establishment pillars to tea party leaders, the emerging consensus is that the vituperative attacks in Florida went beyond the traditional back and forth, cresting with Gingrich’s robocall asserting that Romney had vetoed legislation denying Holocaust victims kosher food.”
From the latter link, here’s the text of Gingrich’s robo-call:

As governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney vetoed a bill paying for kosher food for our seniors in nursing homes. Holocaust survivors, who for the first time, were forced to eat non-kosher, because Romney thought $5 was too much to pay for our grandparents to eat kosher…

    Pander-ific!

  2. Wow Ezra lit em up tonight I don’t get it how can our government bethis way. Speaking out of both sides of its mouth provincially and federally.
Paying the pembina institute for what to help them sue the oil companies and lobby the government? Wow good job Ezra.i am very upset.

  3. All eyes on the ISDA decision regarding Greek sovereign bond haircut at 30% being a credit event or not: either credit default swaps are made good (rendering large US FI’s insolvent), or CDS derivatives are exposed as worthless. Odds are the haircut will be deemed not a default. More MF Global extinction events are the likely result. Stock up on beer and popcorn, it’s going to be splendid entertainment.

  4. It’s Robert’s link, Syncro, and good news therein, really.
Excerpt from Mark Parry’s Jonathan Haidt Decodes the Tribal Psychology of Politics, in The Chronicle Review:

(Haidt) first plunged into political research out of frustration with John Kerry’s failure to connect with voters in 2004. A partisan liberal, the University of Virginia professor hoped a better grasp of moral psychology could help Democrats sharpen their knives. But a funny thing happened. Haidt, now a visiting professor at New York University, emerged as a centrist who believes that “conservatives have a more accurate understanding of human nature than do liberals.”

    The whole thing here.

  5. Many people here have ridiculed me for supporting Ron Paul. This link is to an address Paul gave in the House in 2002. Of all the predictions he makes, only one – for higher interest rates – was incorrect. People keep insisting he’s a “crackpot”, “lunatic”, “wacky”, etc., but never post any evidence. I think he’s prescient, and here’s my evidence:

Here’s “POLITICAL CORRECTNESS” – a Muslim buys eleven acres of land next to a pig farm (a family farm that has been in Houston a long time) and NOW WANTS THE PIG FARMER TO LEAVE!!?? That takes a lot of nerve! So what’s the pig farmer’s response to that….. PIG RACES DURING FRIDAY NIGHT PRAYERS!! Even the news crew is laughing.

good article by Lorne Gunter on the Ian Thompson trial, for shooting a couple of shots over the heads of arsonists trying to burn his house down with Molotov cocktails.
Speaking of firearms, why is the government dragging their feet so much on ending the Long Gun Registry?
It was promised to be dealt with before Christmas 2011,now almost two months and several hundred firearms thefts by the RCMP later,it still isn’t done.

  9. we needed to pay for a study to find this out ???
of course Universities are heavily liebral, simply because liebrals have been doing the teaching and hiring the teachers for 50 years now and the only place to use a degree in Patagonian basket history is teaching other students of Patagonian basket history and making the course so simple that hordes sign up for it as an easy credit…we don’t have any Universities anymore, we have degree granting indoctrination camps.
    http://www.startribune.com/opinion/otherviews/138236524.html
…That faculties are liberal is beyond dispute. In a rigorous survey, University of British Columbia sociology Prof. Neil Gross concluded, “professors currently compose the most liberal major occupational group in American society.”…
…So Gross and Solon Simmons of George Mason University surveyed more than 1,400 full-time professors at more than 900 American institutions. Only 19.7 percent of professors identified themselves as “any shade of conservative” (compared with 31.9 percent of the general population), while 62.2 percent identified themselves as some flavor of liberal (compared with 23.3 percent of Americans overall).
Gross found variation between disciplines. Social sciences and humanities contained the highest concentration of liberals. Conservatives were as numerous as liberals in business, health sciences, computer science and engineering.
Why so liberal? The most obvious explanation — one favored by conservative activists — is discrimination. Even some liberals buy it….

Zamboni operator arrested for allegedly driving drunk at Minnesota rink
    http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/event/article/id/221626/
…About 25 minutes into what should have been a 10-minute job resurfacing the ice, the driver — a part-time employee of the city of Apple Valley — tried to maneuver the unwieldy machine into the arena garage. By then, coach Bryan Dornstreich had called 911.
Officers arrested the 34-year-old Apple Valley man operating the Zamboni for allegedly driving while intoxicated. He failed field sobriety tests and was taken to police headquarters for a blood-alcohol test. …

  11. The U.S. has friends in the Muslim world:

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is acknowledging publicly for the first time that a Pakistani doctor provided key information to the U.S. in advance of the successful Navy SEAL assault on Osama bin Laden’s compound last May. Panetta told CBS’s “60 Minutes,” in an interview to be broadcast on Sunday, that Shakil Afridi helped provide intelligence for the raid on bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

The Muslim world is well aware of it:

(Afridi) has since been charged by Pakistan with treason.

My wife was watching The National this evening on the CBC! I should get a TV nanny to block that damn channel. Except Clair Martin is so damn cute.

  13. There’s no good way to spin this one: the left wing Redford PC government in Alberta is taking their entire caucus to the mountain resort of Jasper for a three-day weekend, at taxpayers’ expense, right before the next election.
Hopefully we can all look back on this in a few months as the “Last Supper”…
    story here

  14. “..taking their entire caucus to the mountain resort of Jasper..”
Maybe they’re trying to preempt getting run out of town by the pitchfork-and-torch bearing mob back home.

  15. KevinB – I have read/heard that speech that Ron Paul gave three or four times; the uncanny brilliance of this man gives me hope that Americans will wake up and elect a man who respects and follows the Constitution. Common sense informs me that the reason establishment Dems/Repubs/media try to ridicule and dismiss the only honorable man in the batch is because they have vested interests in electing Obama/Obama-Lite. Status Quo. Keep $$ and power centrelized and the peons (citizens)out of the loop.
Ron Paul would honor American Citizens and stick to his guns if he achieved office, much of the ‘taxpayer $$ power’ (gifts, grants, contracts for gument etc) would go ‘poof’ if Dr. Paul were Commander and Chief because he would return powers to the states and to individuals.
It is the chance of a lifetime for Americans – let us hope that they do blow it and go down with a whimper. Brave people (army, navy, airforce, libertarians, anti TSA and anti marxists) are supporting the Doctor. Romney/Obamacare, global Warmist fans, anti citizen rights people and war mongers (control freaks)do not like Dr. Paul.
I am praying the the Lord will intervene and the Dr., with the true blue right ideas, will win the election in the USA.
Most people laughed at me when I supported the Reform Party. Now I laugh at them. If Dr. Paul wins in the USA our Prime Minister will have a good honest man to work with – maybe we will get the Right to own Property restored to us and the right to Free Speech and Freedom of Religion.
Dr. Paul says Freedom is popular – it certainly rings a bell in my mind and heart.
Cheering for Dr. Paul with you, KevinB.

  16. Ron Paul. Of all the predictions he makes, only one – for higher interest rates – was incorrect. People keep insisting he’s a “crackpot”, “lunatic”, “wacky”, etc., but never post any evidence.
Ron Paul tells the truth, however the majority of American people don’t want the truth, because they can’t handle the truth. The vast majority of Americans want promises that the status quo will be preserved, they will keep their jobs, they will keep their homes, they will keep their pensions, they will keep their medical coverage…
They will vote for the most popular candidate who makes those promises. They’re not going to vote for Ron Paul because they’re afraid he’s telling the truth and it scares the shit out of them.
The media don’t tell the truth, they sell propaganda, and they craft the propaganda for the audience they’re selling to. The MSM don’t want to publish anything about Ron Paul because most Americans don’t want to be confronted by what Ron Paul says, because it might be true, and like Col. Jessup said:
    “You can’t Handle the Truth”

“For a monthly fee of $50,000 plus expenses, the U.S. agency offered a tantalizing prospect to the Rwandan government: a burnished image, a sophisticated media campaign – and a chance at “drowning out” those pesky opposition voices on the Web.
It was 2009, and the authoritarian regime in Rwanda was facing mounting criticism of its human-rights record. It was accused of censoring the media, suppressing freedom, shutting down newspapers and creating a climate of fear. So it turned to a public-relations agency, Racepoint Group, that had already polished the image of Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi.”

    “They may revoke Obama’s Nobel”
“Will an investigation of the Nobel Peace Prize committee lead to a revocation of President Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize of 2009? That is a good question as a formal inquiry has begun into the way the committee chooses its winners. The board of inquiry does have the authority to revoke Obama’s award, although that is unlikely, the Associated Press reported.
The Peace Prize is awarded by a group in Norway. Swedish committees decide the other prizes. The Norwegians have drifted from the original intent of the Peace Prize.
Fredrik Heffermehl, a prominent researcher and critic of the selection process, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that “Nobel called it a prize for the champions of peace. And it’s indisputable that he had in mind the peace movement, i.e. the active development of international law and institutions, a new global order where nations safely can drop national armaments.”
The award to Obama came based on his first 12 days as president. Since then, he has continued wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as bombing Libya and Somalia and sending U.S. ground forces to Uganda. This displeases many people who were so enthralled by him that they honored him in 2009 before he accomplished anything — much the same way he was elected president.
    The worm definitely has turned.”

“Spain’s new government to eliminate homosexualist indoctrination course”
“Spain’s new government, swept into power in November after seven years of socialist rule, has announced the elimination of a controversial program to indoctrinate students with homosexualist and socialist ideology.
The government’s new Minister of Education, Culture, and Sports, Jose Ignacio Wert, says frankly that the civics course, which was imposed on all public and private schools, “became a course that was charged with indoctrination.”
“Education for Citizenship has been accompanied, since its birth, by controversy and created a serious division in society and in the educational world because it went beyond what should belong to a true ‘civic formation’ in accordance with the directories and guides formulated by the Council of Europe,” Wert also stated.
“Education for Citizenship and Human Rights,” also known in Spain as EpC, provoked a massive protest by Spanish citizens who said that their right to educate their children according to their own values was being violated by the government.”

I wonder how many other LCBO employees knew about this?
