Is Mitt Romney finally beginning to understand that conservative voters want someone who can flatten Barack Obama in a debate and not just a repeat of McCain ’08?!?

“Has Ron Paul ever explained how he will run the US government on 2 or 3% income tax rates?”
Of course not. Ron Paul is like the NDP here in Canada. They (he) knows full well that they (he) isn’t going to win so they (he) can make any dang fool promise they (he) wants. Only the gullible true believers fall for it.
Let’s borrow more money to subsidize corporations to provide medicaid and medicare for irresponsible entitled Americans! Then let’s borrow even more money to pay social security liabilities! Since all this money is already gone, let’s just print more money and devalue our currency! Then, hopefully, oil will soon cease to be traded under the US dollar!
There is no cliff at the end of this dark tunnel, and our economy will NOT collapse as did the Soviet Union’s! Let’s NOT address any of these budget issues, and simply pass the debt to our children, and hope the ponzi scheme lasts at least through our lifetimes!
Oh, I almost forgot: vote Gingrich/Romney/Obama!
@North of 60: thanks brother. Peace!
@EBD: heck yeah it’s a hard choice. I wish the field had a stronger, but it wishes were fishes we’d all cast nets.
Gingrich was a hit with people like us when he fought back against the media. His answer was prepared, practiced and well delivered. Anyone who thinks this was spontaneous doesn’t understand public speaking. Chris Christie is a genuine improvisationist. Romney needs help in that area.
But will answers like that resonate with the swing voters? Hello no. They aren’t at war with the media like we are. The most he accomplished was deflecting criticism. He still has to convince the swingers that he will work to their benefit.
When Romney went to Ohio, he refused to comment on a state referendum that removed collective bargaining power from unions. He said it was a state issue. THAT is a smart political answer for a key electoral state. Ohio is a must-win for Republicans unless they take two other Midwestern states – unlikely.
If as someone said we all agree on seeing Obama ground into the turf, you have to ask yourself and answer which candidate will win each state in November. If you’re not asking that question, you’re only sitting in a dark room stroking your principles to see if it will rise.
We’ve got a precarious 5-4 split on the Supreme Court. Ginsburg, Scalia, and Kennedy are in their 70s. We cannot let Obama get three nominations for the SCOTUS. Two votes swings the court the other way for the next 25 years. Republicans can’t reject every nominee for four years!
We simply don’t know what kind of conservative Romney is because we’ve only seen him run in liberal states with liberal legislatures. I’ll bet everyone cheered when we heard he had won in Massachusetts! We didn’t question his values then.
Gingrich’s claim to have balanced the budget was based on a bubble economy that was pouring in revenues and by cutting the military for eight years. Remember who else claimed credit for that surplus?
McCain didn’t lose because he was a moderate. He lost because Obama was a phenomenon, the media was in bed with him, and McCain was an awful national politician. It was Romney’s PAC that did much of the heavy lifting.
Any Republican except Paul will do the right things in that chair. IMHO only Romney has a chance to get to that chair. I am not a Romney cheerleader – I’m a political strategist. That’s how Rove made Bush president and how Axelrod made Obama president.
@ Reginald
“Any Republican except Paul will do …..”.
And Ron Paul will do the wrong thing because ????.
For all those worried about “Newt’s baggage”…
When you’re unemployed, or afraid of becoming unemployed, or foreclosed, or you’re overtaxed and over-regulated … by far the dominant baggage issue in your mind will be Obama’s economic mismanagement and MASSIVE debt increase.
Not that I approve, BUT … the rabid defense by Democrats (and their media megaphones) of Clinton’s BJs from a teenage intern has to a large extent innoculated Newt from attacks about his ‘marriage baggage’ … again, NOT that I approve, but all of Newt’s women were grown adults, NOT teenage employees. And now Newt is a grandpa …not likely to be philandering anymore.
Newt also holds a nuclear bomb in his back pocket the first time a TV talking head brings it up close to election day – he can say on ‘live’ TV that “You seem fascinated by what my ex-wife has to say, yet you have refused to seek out President Obama’s (who admits to cocaine use in his books) … you’ve refused to seek out HIS ex-drug dealer to explore the extent and duration of my opponent’s admitted cocaine usage. Why are you accepting a different standard of behavior for him than for me and my family?” … and once that bomb explodes on live TV, Newt puts divorce vs. drug use into perspective for millions of American voters to evaluate. Since roughly HALF of U.S. marraiges end in divorce, I expect MOST American’s (if forced to choose) would prefer the divorced guy than the cocaine user.
I can hardly wait for Fall!
‘Libertarianism’ is the reason we are where we are today.
BWAHAHAHAHA Oh my sides! Yes the US in it because of the political philosophy they haven’t been following since 1914.
Any Republican except Paul will do the exact same things as the previous presidents since Reagan in that chair.
FIFY
LAS do you know anything about Libertarianism or are you just basing your opinion on their press releases? Libertarianism is one of the big reasons we are in the mess we find ourselves. BTW Ron Paul is not a messiah and he couldn’t do anywhere near what his newsletters would have you believe nor would it be a good thing if he were able to do those things. A dope smokin’, free lovin’, if it feels good do it, hippy may think Libertarianism is wonderful but mature adults know better.
I know all about Libertarianism because I am one. You clearly know nothing about it or the reasons we are in a mess. “Mature” adults like you have driven America into the ground.
LAS it is the Libertarian ‘action without responsibility’ (immorality) that has given us these unmatched deficits. Responsible adults such as myself insist that we pay our way as we go. Mature adults know that it is immoral to spend tomorrow’s money today just as it is immoral to steal from your children and grandchildren with unsustainable, underfunded pension plans, health plans, over bloated bureaucracy etc etc etc. Get in the game sunshine you’re 5 moves behind and the match just started. If you think Libertarianism is a cure to anything you’re flat out delusional. Libertarianism caused it so it sure as heck aint gonna cure it!
Well that confirms it Joe: you have no idea about what you’re even disparaging.
So LAS would you describe yourself as a consequentialist libertarian or a deontological libertarian or a socialist libertarian or have you gone all the way to becoming an anarchist? Not that it matters much since you can’t see the basic conflict in your position of freedom for yourself and restrictions on others. After all if you are completely free yourself and you think such freedom is paramount to all people how can you tell someone else to stop doing what you disagree with? Who are you to tell the president or the prime minister or the queen or anyone else to stop running state deficits. After all they are simply exercising their individual freedoms. Believe it or not it is impossible to build any kind of functional moral code out of the ‘there is no moral code’ fabric.
It’s hard to believe you can actually be this stupid so I’m going to assume you are a troll. Good job troll you trolled me.
Ah yes LAS just as I suspected Libertarians are stupid.
