Nickleback hate is not a new phenomenon. The same thing happened to Donnie Osmond, Bon Jovi, The Bay City Rollers, The Cowsills, David Cassidy, and so on… People get caught up in a fad, then get embarassed about it. The Beatles actually modeled their music after Elvis, Little Richard, Muddy Waters. When it comes right down to it, music has been recycling itself since the first note was struck.
A fondness for a particular form of music or the stylings of an artist are often the result of the experiences one had while listening.
It’s what makes it work.

I saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan live (1963?) as I’m sure many here have. I never quite recovered from the experience. I go all wobbly with anything Beatlesque.
You can’t compare Bowie/Beatles.
Bowie’s essentially a fashion model with lots of charisma for sure. Symphony orchestras won’t be doing Bowie 20 years from now.
But musical talent. Not so much.
Heard his “Young American” the other day. Migawd’s that’s bad. He’s off pitch and out of breath all the way through. Embarrassing.
OTOH, a day or two later I heard FAME which is an absolutely awesome GROOVE. I like his early 80s Let Dance a lot.
Strange thing: over the past 2-3 years I’ve heard Beatle originals on the radio and thought, ‘now, that’s a damn good cover” … which wasn’t. Hmmmm?

I have asked for a retraction and apology to Cherry, if they cannot produce evidence Cherry said this.

Madison, Wisc…] The Government Accountability Board needs over $600,000 to verify the anticipated 1.5 million recall petition signatures against the Governor and several State Senators.
However, the process it will be using, which was unanimously approved by the Board, will assume every signature is from a valid Wisconsin elector… even if their name is Mickey Mouse or Adolf Hitler.
Testifying at a meeting of Wisconsin’s Government Accountability Board, GAB staff made several stunning admissions Tuesday. GAB representative stated, on the record, that all signatures that include a proper date and Wisconsin address are presumed valid, even those of Mickey Mouse and Adolf Hitler.
More than 540,000 signatures are required to trigger a recall of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker.
The recall petitions will not be data entered by state staff.
It falls on Walker, or other independent groups, to discover fraudulent signatures among the tens of thousands of recall forms submitted.
If the signatures of Mickey Mouse, Adolf Hitler, etc are then discovered, they can be contested, but they are given the presumption of legitimacy by the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board.
I’m going to date myself again,but I did see Bowie in an opera house(Michigan Palace)in Detroit years ago. It was a very good show,he had just stsrted the ‘thin white duke,young Americans/fame’tour,but cripes the ticket for the ‘muppet seats’,those booths around the walls, were $12.50 each,outrageous.
Anyways,this monologue by Mr. Levant may have been already posted,if not,it is well done. He speaks about the Attiwaspikat fiasco. He misses a very important point though,possibly because he may be unaware of it. The reason that many reserves have housing problems is because ‘housing’ is considered a gov’t responsibility,and many bands will allow their members to live in open sewers before they will spend a dime of their own money.

The website uses mature language to explain its purpose, and a credit card is required to respond to the campaign. Additionally, we did not find that the website presented issues regarding climate change in a manner that was exploitative or misleading. After careful evaluation, we did not identify an issue under the Code with this advertising and have closed our file on this matter..
Kate, your line on Lennon as Kennedy is nice and glib, but that’s about it. Lennon didn’t die young and unproven. He’d been effectively retired for years by the time he was killed. And he’d had, by any conceivable standard, a remarkably successful career.
People who admire Kennedy or call him great are indulging in wishful thinking. People who admire Lennon or call him great are merely paying attention.
