  1. Well since your on sick day, here’s a little blurb from Jonah Goldberg in retort to Andy Stern’s op ed from yesterday which advised that America, as it classically understood the economy was heading for the ‘trash heap’ in Trotsky fashion.

What liberals want to copy is the authoritarianism.
In 2008, I wrote a book called “Liberal Fascism.” That title came from H. G. Wells, one of the most important socialist writers in the English language. He believed, as did his fellow Fabian socialists, that Western democratic capitalism had outlived its usefulness.
What was needed was a new, bold, forward-thinking system run by experts with access to the most modern techniques. For Wells, the label for such a system mattered less than the imperative that we implement a revolution-from-above. He admired how the Germans, Italians, and Russians were getting things done. In 1932, he proposed calling his revolutionary movement “enlightened Nazism” or “liberal fascism.”

  2. I hope it is not the US flu. I caught it in Las Vegas a month ago, and still have not shaken it completely.
I thought what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, but not so.
    Best wishes.

  3. Get better soon, but please don’t apologize to us for not blogging – you don’t owe us anything!

  4. Kate whenever you are not well we all panic a bit. One because you are a very decent person and we only wish you the best. Two – which is a more selfish reason – we would all become severely depressed if you ever stopped your wonderful blog, a place of true freedom lovers and endless excellent insights that and your team bring.
    Hope you feel beter soon.

Speak for yourself! I sent Kate a tenner a couple of months ago. I am owed! 😉

  6. What TJ said.
Both my wife and myself seem to be getting over three weeks of this nonsense and finally had to go for some drugs.
glenn and Ratt’s suggestions sound interesting. Bulls Milk works to, but takes a little effort to put together.
    Get well soon Kate.

  7. I am having chicken soup right now with my sick 12 year old, just like my mom gave me. Then, back to bed for him. Some nasty stuff going around Vancouver these days. Rest up. The bloggers union gives you 8 sick/mental health days a year, right?

  9. Oh, oh, how did that happen, maybe one pill too many already. See what just thinking about Bull’s Milk does to your posting skills.

  10. Do your dogs lie on your bed to keep you company, Kate? My faithful friend (I had only one) never left my side; he was my shadow. And, I have to say that when I was feeling under the weather, it was comforting to feel his warm, little body next to mine.
    ‘Hope you’re feeling better soon.

  11. Hot bath up to your neck — as hot as you can stand — for an hour (keep refreshing the hot), your booze of choice, and then bed. ‘Works all the time (if it’s the Grippe; if you’re throwing up, it won’t work).

  12. Kate if you had been a government worker you could use one of your sick days…..but being a government worker means you can tell them in advance when you will be sick…for two or three days..usually after a three day weekend….my wife has here account top up so I told her start taking the time off as thats part off the contract…if you don’t use them you loose them…politicial people signing contracts who don’t have a clue…or a brain..///

  13. Thanks for the kind regards, should be back to normal by tomorrow.
No Christmas party at fault – just a garden variety migraine that took a few hours to shake. I actually quit drinking last year because of them.
