“In Western Canada, acreage of CWB crops has been declining for many years, while the acreage of crops outside of CWB control has been steady or rapidly growing. This decline in wheat and barley acreage is broadly inconsistent with yield growth trends, and expected profitability”, says Al Mussell, Senior Research Associate and co-author of the report. “Something else has influenced producers to vote with their feet”.
At the same time, investment has lagged in CWB grains – but has been much more aggressive in non-CWB crops. According to Kate Stiefelmeyer, Research Associate and co-author of the study, “We haven’t seen investment in barley malting facilities in nearly 20 years, and major investments have been lacking in flour milling and durum processing in western Canada”.

Kate, that is really a scary outfit you have.
“Something else has influenced producers to vote with their feet”.
Yes, it would be called wanting to make a living while at the same time making your own decisions about how best to go about it.
AG producers are like any other small businessmen – they go where the money is. And their support infrastructure follows them. I predict a boom in both CWB grains and the support infrastructure in the post-CWB monopsony era. Let’s see the pointy heads at the George morris centre explain that away.
Henry Vos said in the interview there are 18000 commercial farmers in western Canada and yet 68,000 ballots were sent out. This is a clear indication of the lengths the socialists will go to to maintain their fifedom. Sad the MSM chose to ignore this.
Second CWB director resigns. Jeff Nielsen from Olds represented District 2 in west-central Alberta.

Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) – L’ Aristocracy de CWB

The Wheat Board shutdown will negatively affect places like Churchill, Man., because its port does little other than to ship out CWB grain.
To which the appropriate response is: You made your bed and now you have to lie in it. You gambled that the board would go on indefinitely, and you lost.
From the article: “‘We were aware of Stephen Harper’s agenda certainly in the overall sense,’ [MP Niki Ashton] said in an interview this week. ‘We didn’t know how ruthless he and his government were planning to be.'”
So according to NDP-think, the decision to stop violating the rights of farmers is “ruthless”.

I, too, find that mindset ‘interesting’. It is like the whole Dipper brigade have a ‘control lust’ gene that fires off on any given topic . Is it a mutation, are they born with it, is it inherited? They just cannot rest unless they have made someone miserable. Interesting.
“We didn’t know how ruthless he and his government were planning to be.”
They’re only bragging because the NDP has a ‘Ruth’ and the CPC doesn’t.
Churchill can always reboot their economy by focusing on polar bear hunting, which would bring big dinaro for the tags and accomodating foreign big game hunters.
Why haven’t the CBC and the msm investigated the layers of corruption build in by former CWB insiders, who left the board and bought up facilities along the Great Lakes and somehow mysteriously were given contracts for holding and handling western grains from the fields in the west to the Atlantic Ocean as well as the Hudson’s Bay. I wonder how many were financed by the Taxpayer at CWB rates of interest. I see major conflicts of interest and skulduggery here. But the CBC will never do the farmers a service and do their jobs and uncover the crooks and insiders nor their accomplices in the msm in Canada because the CBC monopoly has silenced the msm in Canada through taxpayer financed juicy deals that have corrupted the FREE PRESS in Canada in the same way as the CWB has corrupted and feasted upon the sweat and capital of the farmers. The CBC and the CWB have grown into Leftwing Liberal/NDP controlled monopolies that are really hurting Canadians in much the same way…
“Something else has influenced producers to vote with their feet”.
Really, now waht could that be?
The more I read science papers and clinical reports on the effects of wheat and barley on health (see for example, Wheat Belly by William davis MD), the CWB debacle may be seen as an unwitting blessing–by redirecting the best farmers away from wheat and barley crops.
RFB, I suspect that you are onto something. Hopefully some of this comes to light in the future.
RFB is on to something!
Seriously folks, why would any org like the CWB have any credibility in todays world after ABSCAM by the Libels. Since the previous corruption has basically gone by the board with little or no jail time done this opportunity should not be missed. Federal auditors should cease the CWB books and every contract studied for misappropriation or theft of monies. Inflated contracts or cheap financing of flukies will be the more obvious scams. They do exist.
As long as our tax dollars carry our farmers they don’t need a wheat board.
