Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Finally! A Ford I would buy.
The present lineup is a bit meh. Unless you can afford to take your Mustang to Jack Rousch or Carl Shelby.
ARRRGGHHH!
I cannot belive I just wrote Carl.
My apologies Mr. Carroll Shelby.
Looks great for my taste, but I ride a 2011 Triumph bonneville that looks straight out of the 60s.
My dad and I rebuilt a ’69 Triumph Tiger 650 back in the early 80s. Tank of a bike. Of all the bikes I owned, that one was my favourite.
The sleek and elegant design of the original 1953 Studebaker coupe as designed by Raymond Loewy will always be among those few cars that stand the test of time as a true work of art.

I’ve been lucky to have owned 3 of them – 2 with 6 cylinder engines and one with a modified R1 Avanti V8 and a 4 speed manual transmission.
Awesome cars all, though the braking and suspension systems of their day was lacking by modern standards.
I hear you on the Studebaker coupe, Paul. For the record, the actual designer was Robert Bourke, who worked in Loewy’s design studio. Just giving credit where credit is due. I have one of the coupes; it’s a work in progress.
Getting back to the Mustang, I believe the body is made by a third-party manufacturer under license from Ford. The doofus at boing-boing asks why Ford doesn’t repop the entire car? How about the multitude of regulations dumped on the auto industry since 1965 that would make a ’65 Mustang illegal in at least a dozen different ways?
I’m not much of a car nut but I shall never, ever forget my first sighting of the 1965 Mustang: white with black trim, next door in a small town in NFLD!
An apparition it was. If I may use the over-used term, instantly iconic and you knew it!
A friend at university had a 1967 Mustang but already something seemed to have been lost.
Wow! That’s some body!
I remember it (the car only, unfortunately) well.
Harry Chapin learned about LOVE in the backseat of a “DODGE” and some learned in the fold down seat of a 1950 “Nash”.
No wiggle room in the “Mustang”!
There has been a big resurgence in the collector car/hot rod world for steel bodied cars. Although fibreglass reproductions have been around for a long time, the purists want steel and there just aren’t that many 20s, 30’s, 40’s originals left. (I have a 34 Ford in fibreglass – steel is much more expensive). At $15K for an original Ford stamping it should sell like hotcakes.
And I have no doubt that you looked quite handsome in it!
Avanti was way ahead of it’s time. One of the most beautiful cars evah!
What about the ’55 Stud Golden Hawk?
Seems a little pricey. I just bought an original 1966 Mustang in road worthy condition for less than half of that.
DIY new 1969 Camero has been around for a while as well.

Built for speed. Not for comfort.
😀
Dick –
Agreed – The Avanti is indeed a timeless design and the original models are prized by collectors.
As for the Golden Hawk – the model first appeared in 1956 and was powered by a 270 HP Packard V8.
Knew a guy in Nevada during the late sixties who managed to stuff a Packard Caribbean dual quad V8 into his ’56 GH – the thing was blazing fast but only in a straight line.
Dynacorn builds several bodies; 69 Camaro, 66 Mustang fastback, and I think a 70 Challenger. The rest of the parts you need are also easy to find. It will end up costing around $50 thousand to finish, which is on par with the new Camaro, etc.(the V8 ones). The main advantage of the retro is lower weight. Those new Camaros weigh over 4000 lbs. Of course, the cool factor is hard to put a value on.
Ford is starting to rehash previous accomplishments, akin to the CBC.
They better come up with a more ORIGINAL sales idea.
I agree with gordinkneehill 2:00 PM re the regs getting in the way of a new production car. A current example of that is the Mini reintroduced by BMW. It’s quite a different car from the original Mini, and in some respects that’s good,,, in others,,not so much. (IMO)
My wish list for gearing up a new pony /tang would be;
-Reinforced Fender Wells where the shock struts bolt thru. (they used to corrode out and led to the demise of my 69,,,,only to find out a separate factory in Michigan had stamped out reinforcing fender walls that could be welded in to beef up those areas.)
-Rack and Pinion steering would be nice.
-Disc brakes all around would be nice.
-Improved side window design,,the Aluminum mount assembly at the base of the windows would loosen due to door slamming, hence the windows wouldn’t seal properly in the full up mode.(wind noise at hwy speed got bad)The only repair I found was ordering new window glass from the factory.
Otherwise I loved those cars.
New Mustang with just the 4.6l V8 whips the old Mustang with a 302 on the road course or at the strip, hands down, all day long. 5.4l with the blower is a tire roasting -monster-.
However. It is very nice indeed to see Ford FINALLY LISTENING to all of us old gear heads who have been screaming for new sheet metal for all these years. A nice body like that is the perfect foundation for a modification program that will lead to a very, very fast, very safe car. Front and rear sub-frames (to take care of that shock tower issue G mentions above, roll cage, new late model engine and tranny, those cars can go like hell on jets. Some assembly required.
Given the choice of dropping $50-$60k on a fire-breathing 1965 Mustang or a 2011 Gubmint Motors Camaro, make mine ‘Stang.
The body parts are for restoration.
You need a donor car with vin. The VIN tag can be legally transferred and the owner can keep the vehicle registration up to date and license the car for road use.
The point of Ford making them “official” repair components in their catalogue is for that reason.
It is a win/win situation for Ford who get to sell a lot of related parts and for restoration or customization specialists who get to produce road legal vehicles that are exempt from useless restrictions and regulations.
Keep the classic car alive people.
The US isn’t nearly so strict with it’s vehicle registration. You can register a ground up custom, if it passes inspection. There’s a dealer in Calgary that has a shell like this on display,(Camaro). They also have a finished product for sale, that had a donor car for VIN. About all you need from the donor car is the VIN tag. It’s amazing how easy it is to find every nut and bolt in the after market.
The potential for abuse is awe-inspiring. Has Iowahawk been informed?
