Occupy Wall Street protesters said yesterday that packs of brazen crooks within their ranks have been robbing their fellow demonstrators blind, making off with pricey cameras, phones and laptops — and even a hefty bundle of donated cash and food.
“Stealing is our biggest problem at the moment,” said Nan Terrie, 18, a kitchen and legal-team volunteer from Fort Lauderdale.
“I had my Mac stolen — that was like $5,500. Every night, something else is gone. Last night, our entire [kitchen] budget for the day was stolen, so the first thing I had to do was . . . get the message out to our supporters that we needed food!”
Heh.

Too funny . . . the harsh reality of life rears its ugly head and proves to the moron class that life is not fair.

I’m one of the 1%, I’m a software engineer working in the mobile device industry, I have more computers in my home than dining room chairs, and every one of them combined isn’t worth $5,500.

What are you running – 386’s? I’ve got a file-server, a desktop, a laptop, and a tablet; together they cost just under $5k, ignoring the cost of monitors and various peripherals. Granted, Mac-boy is out to lunch, but if you really have as much equipment as you say, it must be worth well over $5,500.

I suggest they all put their valuables into one large pile, and then dole them out according to need. Those not willing to put their phones or cameras into the pile should be forced to by the OWS-IRS. Call it a tax, levied for purposes of social justice. A review board should be appointed to evaluate the needs of those wanting a phone or camera. Membership on the board is awarded to those who give the OWS organizers the best phone or camera.

Despite the humour and irony provided through the hyprocrisy of the OWS types, these events display a common and consistant thread that I have encountered with leftists.
The left is not at all interested in any type of altruism, utopia, social justice, or even redistribution of wealth – despite their very many and very loud speeches to the contrary that do confuse and sometimes persuade the gullible and naive.
No. The left if driven by only one human emotion: envy. If someone has more than I, I want it. If I have more than someone else, it remains mine.

Robert, the left mindset goes beyond envy of other’s possessions. Underlying the left is the central idea that competition is to be avoided, because if one competes, there may be a loser. The left is an aggregation of those who do not possess the confidence that they can compete and win. A fair market allows for free competition. A command economy instead finds another basis for distribution: called “fairness” or “justice”. Distribution based on anything other than ability, in my view, demands of individuals that they act in discord with their own interests. Hence the role of the media in conditioning much of the public to act against their own best interests. Why vote for a politician that you know will raise taxes? or decommission needed electrical generation facilities? etc.
The left: competition is unfair and unjust. The right: competition promotes excellence and efficiency.
Never waste a good crisis: the ongoing collapse of the global fiat currency system provides an excellent opportunity for the left to ratchet up its power base. That the OWS “uprising” emerges now tells me how near are to the financial brink.
While its fun to ridicule hippies embracing demonstrably flawed systems of governance, it is more productive for the right to be pondering considerably the nature of Financial System V2.0.

reality check people. Have you ever heard of this little thing called “software”? Legit copies of MS Office, PhotoShop, etc. can easily add up to $2,500 or more, which means a total of $5,500 for the complete package is not out of the question.

I detect a bit of hypocrisy on the part of the OWS protesters; wealth redistribution occurs and they don’t like it one bit. Isn’t this just an example of: “from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs”?
Someone had a need for a laptop and took it. Similarly, there was probably someone out there who needed $2500 which the rich protesters had kindly collected for him.
This is the type of world they are proposing and they had better get used to it. Maybe once they’ve been ripped off one time too many they’ll come to their senses and join the Tea party.

I disregarded the software because these days, at least with all my expensive software, it’s just a matter of calling up the developer/vender for a copy of my licence or registration codes on file then downloading another copy.
