Is There Nothing That Obama Can’t Do

The Canada to USA brain-drain is so yesterday:

“Canada’s stronger economy is becoming a magnet for Americans hunting for work. In a reversal of historical flows, immigration lawyers report a surge of calls from Americans who want to move north. Statistics bear out their observations: A record number of Americans applied for temporary work visas last year, Immigration Canada statistics show, spurred largely by the contrasting health of the two countries’ labor markets.

  1. As predicted the Mexicans are coming!
Hold onto your mailboxes, lawn ornaments and cattle gates.

  2. The Liberal Left likes freedom of fetish; this guy will be out in an hour and suing the government for a million Euros in two.
Whatever, this is the society that the left has built, it’ll all come to a head at some future point and the left will pay the biggest price win, lose or draw.

  3. A friend of mine just got back from Fort McMurray.
    He says there’s Americans there.
Problem is, they come nowhere near to Canadian standards in the trades and require further training to get certification.
On the whole, though, I’d rather have American immigrants who want to work than welfare-sucking ‘refugees’ with no work ethic.

  4. Knight 99, our son worked for a large greenhouse outfit in Chilliwack until two years ago and they had been bringing in seasonal Mexican workers for a couple of years by then as they could not get local people to work. I guess nobody in Chilliwack needed a few extra bucks, for Christmas or to go to school, they could earn seasonally. Not like the old days (50s & 60s) in Ontario when people could hardly wait to get a summer job on the farms, even at a buck an hour.

Of course, those who are seeking to work, rather than occupy cities with ‘eat the rich’ signs, tend to be Republicans … the champions of individual responsibility who wish for everybody to be successful and understand that it’s hard work that gives people an opportunity to be rich.
Instead of wasting money on dope, the successful save a bit of the money they earn and after a while, their wealth accumulates.
Just because I grew up on welfare does not mean there were no opportunities to make money and create wealth when I got older.
It’s a simple matter of making the right choices.
If you’re poor in this country, blame yourself.

Agreed, for sure your right on that count. I have no issue with good immigrant families who wait in line and go through the “inspection” process. Then enter the country with work ethics and skills Canada can actually use. This helps sort out the law abiding, non-terminally sick, infectious diseases, criminal background checks, and provides details of usable skills. We do however need more stringent, conservative requirements. At the moment the Liberal requirements are akin to open borders for those that are non white (Tony Blair campaigned hard with other western countries to limit working visa’s to white professionals to slow the white flight and tax drain from the UK economy) I imagine many other socialist western countries have done something similar.
My issue is with the border jumpers, criminal gangs, welfare leaches and indeed those that entered legally and then bring in their entire extended non-contributing families to leach off the system (India & Pakistani immigrants are renowned for this utilizing their “Commonwealth” status.
My original comments are directed at the Third World mess the US has become with their open border policies. The southern half is turning into ghetto Mexico a little more each year. Canada & Northern US has been saved from this disaster because of the earlier economic boom in the south US and our undesirable winters. That’s changing now with the recession/ depression across the US. The undesirables will follow the money, whether it’s welfare entitlements, drug sales or ethnic gang affiliation.

  7. I doubt the immigrant flow will contain many union members. So long as that holds, the new workers should be right of center.

  8. In the past our tradespersons and Technologists had no problem getting jobs in the US because of their superior training and skills, the Americans do a lousy job of training skilled workers. The ISA (Instrumentation) holds completions and every year the western Canada (BCIT, NAIT, SAIT and SIAST)participant either win or place high against the rest of the world.

  9. I guarantee Ken Kulak has never primed tobacco. I did, at $75 a day when my pay at the tire store was net $72 a week. I went back to the tire store.

  10. I never primed tobacco, but people I knew made good money there, although allowing that it was back breaking work. I had to work on my dad’s fruit farm near Queenston for 5 buck a week. (uphill both ways)
My nurse daughter makes 5 bucks in 8 minutes.

  11. Born (50+ yrs ago) and raised in Calgary, I saw very few Mexican immigrants until about 10 yrs ago. Hardest working, most affable co workers evah

“Hardest working, most affable co workers evah”
No kidding, they have nearly stripped every piece of metal off every private and public facility in southern California/ Arizona not chained to a security guard. That takes time and energy!

  13. “Three cheers to the hard working people….the salt of the earth”.
Met a couple of 25-45 year-olds guys working in northern Alberta. One from Nova Scotia.. good. The other, younger from frickin’ IRELAND.
Along with the Phillipinos who are here too, working, I tell’em all , “You gotta lot of balls” to come all this way, far from home to make a living. I tip my hat to them.

  14. My county’s largest employer is investing millions in a mining project in Southern Ontario. One of the reasons they gave for going there was the “mining friendly” atmosphere up North. The US is now so averse to any industrial activity that you would have to be nuts to invest money here. This is, of course, toxic for job creation, but that’s the price you pay when you put the environmentalists in charge of your economy. The greens even put up a fight when companies try to haul large loads of industrial equipment across Montana and Idaho these days. The justice system is so stacked for the Luddites that economic progress down here is now totally stalled.
