Pleasing your enemies does not turn them into friends

SDA’s masthead serves as the perfect title to the story of the two imprisoned American hikers in Iran. As Debra Saunders reports, the pair were Lefty poster boys, highly critical of America and Israel, only able to heap praise on truly terrible nations.
These absolutely clueless young men paid a very heavy price for their ignorance. Sadly, it appears they haven’t learned a thing.

  1. Sadly, it appears they haven’t learned a thing.
They never will. Socialism & anti-Semitism is a mental disorder. There is no cure for those who live in aperpetual state of wishful thinking.
Nor those filled with hate laced with rgae against all civility.

  2. If Iran released all US spy in Iran for any political reason back in US
then Iran can released all Iranian politican in jail release them to go to US or any other country as refugee statues them
this is save money for Iran jail food and legal procedding and etc…
and this is save life for human right here
    this is Ironic
This is proof Iran like forigner and right of forin policy respected than Inside Iran and they less pay attention to inside job to outside job
    so
as Iran was so generous to release two of American
may be NEXT turn can be
    to release
all Iran politician to any country out of IRan
and reduce their bad publicity too
If American politican has right so as Iranian politician has right as long as not involve with any terro activities
    I guess
    then
I am sure US welcome thos Iranian politician stay now in Iran jail well too.
Nobody should go to jail if they have different opionions

  3. Two lefty freaks caught out of the closet.
They owe the American people +1 MILLION dollars! Citizens should sue for garnishment of their wages and other earning until repaid.

  4. What is expected? They went as anti-Americans and then were caught by anti-Americans who filled their brains with more anti-Americanisms.
They probably felt more at home than imprisoned.

  5. Leftist fools like these and others from crank Christian cults are constantly showing up in places
run by the worst third world despotic rulers and other misruled, dangerous, countries to be
seized for some god knows what purpose. A few years ago it was members of some South
Korean based Christian cult tied to American liberal church organizations who got themselves
shot up and kidnapped in Afghanistan and somehow sought to blame the South Korean party
running their country at the time plus the US for their situation.
Nutters or worse, all of them.

  6. libertariansaresmarter .
I’m having a hard time seeing your correlation with senior government officials kidnapped during service for their country with the crazy pinko hikers out for gay fetish thrills?
Not that I agree with any ransom payments, we should not be in any of these countries every bit as much as we should kick out all of their diplomats, immigrants, asylum seekers, student’s etcetera….
When they clean their own house we talk about some fair trade. Nothing more required.

  7. I had a friend who was working as a petroleum engineer in Iran back in the late 70’s. He took a trip to the coast, and ignorantly but innocently, took a few photos of Iranian navy ships. He was arrested and put in jail for almost 18 months, accused of espionage.
It wasn’t “Midnight Express”. I asked him about the jail; he said he was never beaten or mistreated, but that is was just boring. They’d only give him books or English papers sporadically, and of course he had no TV (no Internet then, of course). He spent much of the time just doing basic exercises – push-ups, sit-ups, etc. – and I have to admit he had a really impressive physique when he got out.
He received a pretty impressive settlement from the company when he was finally released, so he didn’t have to worry about money, but he did lose almost two years of his life.
I’m never setting foot in any country in Africa, the Middle East(except maybe Israel), or western Asia until these barbarous governments are tossed out. The so-called “Arab Spring” may have seemed impressive when it happened, but it just reminds of the Who’s famous dictum: “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss”. All these stories remind me that our concept of “innocent until proven guilty” is completely alien to these insular, murderous thugs. They are paranoid, vicious, and stupid. A pox on all of them.
And, as much it is my small power, I boycott products from these countries. No matter how much cheaper Iranian pistachios are than California ones, or figs from North African countries are than those from others, I refuse to buy them. I’m not giving a single penny of my money to support these brutes.

“””They owe the American people +1 MILLION dollars! Citizens should sue for garnishment of their wages and other earning until repaid.”””
t’was cheaper than digging up the fools mother’s basements and send said basements over to Iran for the fools to live in:-)))

  9. I think these people probably were spies and the whole release negotiations thing is a big act. Could anyone, even a leftard, be stupid enough to go for a walk along the Iran/Iraq border?

“Could anyone, even a leftard, be stupid enough to go for a walk along the Iran/Iraq border?”
    Obviously…..

  11. I agree, they were spies, and Prime Minister Amadinejad has made a very serious error in releasing them.
Mr.Ahmadinejad, next thing you know, these guys will be back in your neighbourhood spreading their Great Satan Liberal lies to your good young people, and seducing them away from Allah!
You,sir, with all due respect, have f***ed up big time on this case.

  12. new source of income
Iran needs to put new ads
    sponage visa wanted
from mountain or river or any border
If Iran get $500,000 per each release
and stick to any Iranian who live outside of Iran and blame they are spy
    right or wrong
this is going to big source of income for Iran too
    solution:
    get visa entry
get visa for exit stamp in Iran embasy
and have your lawyer be aware of you got visa before travel to Iran
    that is non sense
they look like more gays adventurer who try to have fun than spy to me!
    sorry

  13. The Iranians should have charged them with Terminal Stupidity.
    Idiot 1 “Let’s go hiking”
    Idiot 2 “Where”
Idiot 3 “How about Iraq and we go close to the Iranian Border
    GREAT IDEA !!

  14. I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt here and say Stockholm Syndrome. Give them time to gather their thoughts and realize they are lucky to have their heads intact, with which to gather those thoughts.

Well said! Especially for someone who has never been to Africa.
I lived and worked in North Africa (Libya. Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt) for over a decade and can attest to everything you said. I also will never go back.
I left Algeria December 2001 after I couldn’t stomach the 9/11 gloating any further. It was continuous displays of smirks and disgusting jokes in the face of all white westerners whether they were American or not. These people do not distinguish their nationalities or religions when it comes to hating whitey, regardless of what the left pretends to believe. *note, they really don’t like the Negro much better, only the fundamental reasons for it are different.

  16. Who among us has not, at one time or another, dreamed about hiking through the desolate Iran-Iraq frontier?
    Pretty near everybody then.

  17. Not me, Peter. I want to go on one of those Khadr Adventure Tours for Pakistan-Afghanistan sightseeing that the CBC is always promoting.

  18. According to those who have seen the video…Daniel Pearle appeared to think they were bluffing until they cut deep….only then he got it…..

  19. Eric Hoffer said “People who bite the hand that feeds them usually lick the boot that kicks them”.

  20. They will probably be in the next G8/G20 protests too.
Lucky the Iranians did not twig onto their sexual orientation.

  21. Typical young person’s response…it’s not my fault, someone else is to blame. Too many hours watching Simpson’s on TV I guess.

  22. so how’d their interview with al-jazeera go ?
Surprise! Al Jazeera Journalist Admits To Being Hamas Operative…
Flashback: Hillary Clinton praises Al Jazeera as a “real news” outlet.
(JPost) — Samer Allawi, Al Jazeera’s former Afghanistan bureau chief, reached a deal with the Israel State state prosecutors office on Sunday under which he will receive a suspended sentence of three years after he confessed to conspiring in Hamas operations.
Allawi, a Palestinian, was arrested in August on the border between the West Bank and Jordan at The Allenby Crossing.
During an investigation with The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) Allawi said he was recruited to Hamas in 1993 and he served there until 2004 in a senior committee that oversees Hamas operations abroad and is responsible for fundraising.
In 2001 and 2003 he traveled to Syria where he reported on his activities to Mousa Aba Marzook, deputy to Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal in Damascus.
Aba Marzook offered Allawi to become an official Hamas representative in Iran, but he rejected the offer.
During the interrogation with The Shin Bet, Allawi said he attended a meeting in 2000 in Saudi Arabia in which he said he would be part of a terror operation on behalf of Hamas. He also offered to use his position as a reporter to promote Hamas interests.
In 2006, Allawi traveled to Qatar and met with additional Al Jazeera reporters, who The Shin Bet said were Hamas operatives, and discussed the possibility of using their position to advance Hamas by critizing the US military in Afghanistan.
During his interrogation, The Shin Bet said he also discussed his activities as a member of the Mujahideen in Afghanistan from 1988 till 1992 during which he said that he participated in a rebel raid on an Afghan military base and participated in guerrilla operations against Soviet forces.
