  5. Time to start hounding my MP again. Put aside the Wheat Board and the long gun registry for now and deal with the parasitic CBC immediately.
    I cannot think of one good reason to hand $1 of taxpayers’ money to this useless organization. Not one! Yet we continue to fork over $1 billion plus annually to keep this lamprey afloat. There are probably a thousand causes which are more deserving yet suffer due to lack of funding. Health care and the military come to mind.

The Conservative Government will MISS IT and continue to fund over a billion dollars of our tax dollars into the Constantly Bashing Conservatives/Canadians/Christians [CBC.] Just like they will continue to support the HRC; Quebec social programe – like day care; the Gun regestary program; the subs that the LIEberal government bought a long time ago [we could have new ones built by now (in Canada) with the amount spent – and they are not even in service yet, after all these years, etc …. I have a feeling that things will continue as they were going while the Cons were in a minority situation. I hope I am wrong – but will see in the budget.

  8. I’m not even suggesting that we sell it off, piece by wretched piece or in one huge, foul-smelling pile. Give the assets away to whoever wants them. If they want the staff … great. If not … c’est le vie.
    Just get that $1 billion monkey off the backs of taxpayers, the vast majority of whom don’t even tune in to CBC when there isn’t a hockey game on.

    If you continue to fund the CBC I will do all in my power to send you packing next election.

    Sell off the assets and fire every liberano staff member, at least Don Cherry will still have a job.

  11. I think a fair and reasonable thing to do would be to inform the CBC that they will have a 33% funding cut in each of the next three years, commencing immediately. This will allow the CBC a reasonable amount of time to transition to a new business model. Either that or auction off their multitudes of licenses and assets in 2012.
    Also, tell them that no funding whatsoever will be granted unless they immediately submit to freedom of information requests.
    Come to think of it, that might work with Native communities as well. Withhold funding from those that do not willingly open their books to the auditor general.

    Despite nobody watching, it is part of the warp and woof of Canadian culture, love it or hate it.
    Job #1 of the new “conservative” majority was to actually boost the CBC budget, and recall they were given an exclusive on the Canada Day celebrations.
    Mr. Harper’s objective now is to replace the Liberals as the Natural Governing Party. See him not only standing at St. Jack’s funeral, but actually clapping to the marxist claptrap??!!
    Nothing will happen to the CBC except perhaps another budget boost. You don’t become the new Natural Governing Party by killing off 75-year old institutions like the CBC. That would be radicalism way beyond the ken or temperament of the man.
    ET — correctly in my view — opines that Mr. Harper is a gradualist. Indeed. SO gradual, you won’t notice any change in this direction ‘cos there won’t be any! I expect similarly gradual change in the gun registry and the HRCs.

  15. The time to kill the CBC was the first budget to give people 5 years to realize they didn’t actually care. The CBC cannot be sold. It must be dismantled because it is worth so much less than nothing. Under labour legislation any buyer would be saddled with the unions thus guaranteeing failure.

    The best way to get rid of the beast is to privitize the monster. Failing that, just stop the money. Its just that simple.
    There is no constitutional amendment or clause for a state propaganda channel.

  18. I think the CBC might be embarrassed but as long as tax money fills their coffers, they won’t be TOO worried. Take away their cash and then you will see them sweat.

  19. Unfortunately CBC is a sacred cow. Nothing would unite the left faster then an overt attack on the CBC. The way to shut it down is to gradually ,. . . GRADUALLY reduce funding. Also, too many who voted for Harper last time are still nervous about him. He needs to move very slowly on attacking things that the left holds dear. What is good, however, is that the criticism of the CBC is now more overt. The Ottawa Citizen had an anti-CBC article a week or so ago. This was something you used to NEVER see. Sun is also having an impact.

  20. CBC serves Northern Canada because it’s not profitable for the private sector to do it. Those of you in the South have all sorts of options, and if you want to remove CBC from Southern Canadian markets that’s fine with me. However CBC North is an institution that won’t get axed by any government that wants to stay in power. If you don’t like it, that’s just too bad for you.

  22. North of 60 states that the CBC serves the north; I’m sure we could get other TV stations transmitted there for much less than $1 billion yearly. Then again, who wants to watch TV?
    The way to get rid of the CBC is to flood MP’s offices with letters letting them know you don’t want this Crap Broadcasting Corporation to be subsidized a minute longer than it should be. Maybe the defunded CBC can become the Canadian PBS, but it would take some major changes in their programs if they wanted to attract any viewer sponsors.

  23. IF what is happening in the states plays out to it’s horrific conclusions ( read if the Pubbies lose this next election, God Forbid!) what happens there will happen here. We just get to watch the train wreck in slow motion before it mows US down!-
    We are already on the brink. We are in a bit of a better , more solid position, but let us not kid ourselves.
    If there is a meltdown in Europe and the US does not get it’s house in order this malaise will spread around the world and we will not be immune.
    Before that miserable prospect looms large we need to do certain things: budget cuts: The CBC MUST be privatized and that one billion used elsewhere.
    We must allow private health clinics. It is unethical and inhuman to do otherwise and the Supreme Court has already ruled on a citizens right to timely care. TWO big millstones around the neck of Canadian taxpayers that just has to be addressed. Along with cleaning up the waste in Ottawa. Long gun registry. Indian Affairs portfolio.. billions in these and other areas need cutting and streamlining.
    IF we do these few things we might just get through this next major financial storm headed our way.
    I love the way SUNTV takes this CBC issue head on. Nothing could be more delicious. Aside from that, it is absolutely necessary to do it.
