  1. I been waiting for a way to rage against the media machine after a week of Layton-itis… thanks Walter.

  2. When that French bloke died, you know, the separatist ex-CBC news reporte, I went to see his body lying in state in the Montreal cathedral … Just to make sure he was dead. I didn’t bother with Jacues Layton

  3. Just saw the report on the funeral on CBC’s The National (or Saturday report, whatever it’s called)
Terry M was put in charge of covering the story, so you knew some smear against the CPoC was coming — and it did.
Terry M points that at one moment members of the CP caucus did not stand.
You just know that the CBC was disappointed that PMSH offered a state funeral. The scenario as the CBC wanted it to unfold: press PMSH for one before he could offer; hope that he says no; and then attack him until he reversed his position.
In spite of PMSH’s offer of a state funeral, the CBC still attacks him and his gov’t. Never good enough it seems.
Having said that, this is on PMSH’s watch now. He had BETTER do something about the CBC in the next budget… if he doesn’t, I will not defend him and his gov’t against their attacks anymore… the power to do something now lies with him.

  4. I watched the service this afternoon. You can call it a Gala, a tribute or a political rally, but you cannot call it a funeral. The whole thing was a travesty. For instance the presiding minister made sure to mention that he was gay, not once but twice. This was not about the man Jack but about the activist Jack and the agenda of the left. It is understandable that the conservatives did not rise at certain points in the ceremony with the rest of the Marxists. I probably would have walked out at some point during the production in disgust,

  5. Terry M et al,
Perhaps you should be forgiving of the CP caucus if they don’t kneel or stand at the appropriate moments. It’s not like they’ve ever been in the Church of Jack before today, nor will they be in it after today.

  6. I’ll bet thistles or burdoch grows where they plant this pompous little gasbag. Canadas slimey media should be ashamed of themselves fawning over a dead commie, not one, not one time have I heard any leftie media scumbag thanking PM Steven Harper for giving this screwball a state funeral, no that would be to hard for teat suckers, shame on Canadas so called media for not thanking Harper. Harper should have gone to a bar mitzfa for Howard Stern or anything else, before attending this orange clustersvender.

  7. Dennis K, very well said. I altogether agree.
This “state funeral” was an NDP pep rally, in utterly poor taste from almost beginning (the Barber and Bach were lovely) to end. “Travesty” is altogether the right word.

  8. Did Svend attend?

Yup. But the casket was closed and they had removed Jack’s jewellery.

  9. Lot of applause and whistling for a funeral…
    Standing ovations too.
Why not cowbells, vuvuzelas, and drunks with their shirts off with JACK! painted on their beer bellies?
Test your gag reflex, the funeral is being replayed on CBC.

  10. The whole “event” was ghoulish and tacky. I am looking forward to a few weeks from now so I don’t have to see/hear about this every second of the day.
I wonder how many homeless could have been housed or how many meals could have been fed for the price of this disgusting show. Common man, my a$$.

  11. Stay tuned for the inevitable Jack Layton commemorative plates and limited edition funeral DVD titled, “Imagine There’s No Heaven/Jack Layton Going Home” coming soon to the CBC Shop.
If you call within the next 20 minutes you’ll also receive a copy of Jack’s Last Letter (TM), printed on the finest recycled paper and individually signed and numbered by Terry Mileiewski.
But wait, there’s more! If you’re one of the fist 10,000 callers and if you just pay for the extra “handling” you’ll also receive a discount coupon to the Velvet Touch Massage Parlour, a highly respected community clinic (TM) in the greater Toronto area!
Act now, operators are standing by! Des services également disponibles en français.
Note: “Jack’s Last Letter” and “Community Clinic” are registered trademarks of the NDP, CBC, the Toronto Star and C.U.P.E. All rights reserved.

  12. Hmm even my lefty facebook ‘friends’ found the clapping, cheering and whistling disturbingly inappropriate. I’m at a real disadvantage. I didn’t/won’t watch it.

  13. “Lot of applause and whistling for a funeral…”
You can dress some people up, but you can’t take them out.
    My Mom would be appalled.
What a shame that I missed it.

  14. (Sarcasm on)
I have always wondered what an atheist funeral was like…. Now I know. (I am thankful the gay community [participants in Gay Parade] decided to leave their clothes on.)
By-the-way; Jack Layton is no longer an atheist.
May he be happy where he spends eternity, which he did not believe existed.
    Sarcasm off)

  15. That was TODAY? Damm I was out burning hydrocarbons on my motorcycle. 1100+ kms today and 6000 more in the next week.
Jack would be disappointed in me, I earn my salary and weeks off thanks to my skills not my seniority, I drive a japanese bike, a german car and have racked up 80000miles on planes this year.
The only thing I could say yesterday when cbc new net was on at an airport lounge was ‘Toronto is not Canada’ Canada doesn’t give a shit about some chalk on a square in TO

  16. Dennis K and bartinsky and others say it so well.
I have to watch my blood pressure and so did not watch any of the funeral/NDP pep rally.

  17. I’m a nurse, an old one. When I saw Jack at his last news conference I knew what I was seeing. So did most everyone else. I felt sadness for him, our time in the sun is so brief afterall, and he certainly had work left to do. I had no fear that the NDP would be forming the next federal government and I was looking forward to something different in parliament this fall. I watched the funeral today mostly out of curiosity and I more and more furrowed my brow. After Steven Lewis spoke I was sure, Jack was pulling one last political stunt! The preacher confirmed it by disclosing all the discussions Jack had had to plan this, his own funeral. This was a NDP political rally and events were manipulated to embarass PMSH whenever possible. I was appalled, until I realized that PMSH probably had seen it coming and just went along for the ride. He’s so classy.
The music was good, the family eulogies were touching. Jack, RIP (sincerely).
PMSH got to go home to Sussex Dr.

  18. Thanks flaunagirl and syncro!
Hallowe’en is just around the corner….stay tuned for the Jack O’ Lanterns! I’m not sure who will be flogging these. Probably the NDP seeing CBC will make all the money off the funeral bric a brac.
And and be a good socialist and don’t forget to give to UNISEF!
    * Yes, it’s fine to add the apostrophe between the e’s! Dating myself a little though!
I once heard it said that it takes the CBC double to triple the manpower to pull off an on-location broadcast than it does its competitors. While gagging during the highlight reel of todays’ Jack-o-palooza, I couldn’t help but notice the perfectly placed aerial cam that caught the casket being loaded into the hearse. I’m wondering what the logistics were to mount said sky-cam….Was it wired or wireless? Did the CBC hire a union shop scaffolding company? How much coin did this 30 seconds cost? Mind boggling I say.

  19. After this week of watching the media deify Jack Layton, I was surprised he was not back on the third day.
To canonize a lifelong politician who never rallied more than one voter in five to follow him, was over the top, as only the CBC can do overdone.
The “funeral/rally/fundraiser was an embarrassment to all those who have had a state funeral and truly deserved it.

  20. I figure I will send $20 to the Layton fundraisers. After all , it was Jack who helped trounce the Liberals. What a bargain.
    HeHeHeHe

  21. I wonder how Olivia feels about all the splendor paid to Jack? She knew him better than most, wondering if it rings a little hollow?
The legend of Jack is already larger than the man himself.
My strongest memory of Jack is him at the pub pushing the woman out of the way so he could be seen on TV while watching the men’s hockey gold-metal game during the Vancouver Olympics. Any respect I may have had for the man was washed away, just like the underarm sweat on that poor woman’s face.

  22. I missed the funeral. I was busy watching some paint dry.
Duffman @ 11:59 p.m.: “Jack would be disappointed in me, I earn my salary and weeks off thanks to my skills not my seniority”
Shouldn’t the NDP be choosing its next leader based on seniority? Isn’t Libby Davies highest in that department?
I think we have a plan developing here.

  23. @ glacierman
    you hit it bang on…
don’t forget every other photo-op jacko and his komrades have manufactured or had manufactured for them by the cbc…
as for his leftover leftie ‘partner’…watch closely to see if the new ‘leader of HM’s ‘loyal’ opposition’ moves into Stornoway…I’d almost put money on it that they don’t and that olivia is given a free pass to it by the party in recognition of her and jacko’s long standing tradition of not paying for their own place when there’s subsidized housing to be had..especially if they’re not entitled to it…
of course, any other moonbat dipper would have the same feeling so it should be interesting watching them struggle over the taxpayer’s mortgage money…they’ll probably end up demanding a second mansion be provided for the new ‘leader’…and get it.

  24. Next up will be Olivia The Chow taking over the reins of the NDP. She’ll ride along on the coat -tails of her dead spouse and be acclaimed as the inheritor of the personality cult.
    Dear Leader indeed!

  25. Giving money to Kate -is- the best way to commemorate the passing of Jack! Layton.
Me, I missed the funeral too. I was building shelves, and besides I don’t have television. More time to build shelves and read the books that go on them, less time wasted watching a bunch of no-class yahoos misbehave at a funeral.

  26. Yes, I too missed the “Jack’s mini gay pride event”, I was shovelling horse sh!t out of the barn.

  27. I just read all this stuff for the entertainment factor….what a bunch of goof ball lefties…..they are entitled let’s not forget………….
I hear there is a movie coming out this fall on CBC………….The Rise and Fall of the Great Layton…….filmed on location at the famous Velvet Touch Community Clinic…………what a horror film that would be

  28. “My strongest memory of Jack is him at the pub pushing the woman out of the way so he could be seen on TV”
That is also my most memorable Jack Layton moment. Opportunistic, phony and contrived. That one action alone personified all that he stood for. (I know … bad grammar. But “all for which he stood” sounds pedantic.)

  29. The only former leader of the NDP I remember is the eugenicist Tommy Douglas. It would be nice to hear his thoughts on the mental illness of the gay minister and the need to thin the “undesirables” from the herd.
Wouldn’t that make him “eugenicist, homophobe” Tommy Douglas?

  30. To say that Olivia’s not very smart is an understatement: canny and opportunistic? You bet.
One notices that she barely strings together more than five or six words–because she can’t. If the NDP has any thoughts of making her leader, maybe they’ll get some teleprompter tips from Obama and crew.

  31. Conspicuous by it’s absence during the media’s orgy was any mention anywhere of Layton’s first wife – mother of his 2 children and grandparent of his grandchildren.
Can anyone here enlighten me on what really happened?

  32. Front page of the Edmonton Sun is a picture of a flag draped casket with the words FINAL FAREWELL.
My thoughts were FAREWELL FINALLY! Please! I didn’t like his politics while he was alive and his death has done nothing to change my mind. I never met the man and of that I am glad because I wouldn’t have wanted to be a prop in one of his photo ops or have him elbow me in the head in his mad dash to jump in front of another camera.
I’m still waiting for a reply from my niece-in-law who worshiped the ground Jack walked on. I asked her to give me an example of Jack’s positive contribution about a week ago.
