Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Don;t you just hate over worked cliches and phoney sentamntal rhetoric.
Here’s my number one stupid cliche:
“We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek. We are the hope”
Repeated endlessly by the hopey-changey corproate media.
“A recent study suggests…..” usually implying something bad for conservatives. And who the hell pays for studies that only “suggest”. Probably us taxpayers, one way or the other.
“Going Green”
Oh…I hate the term ‘progressive’ –I have yet to encounter the term in political usage that wasn’t loaded with exact opposite of its denotative meaning.
These lists annoy me far more than the any of the contents of the list. I have enough impotent outrage of my own, I don’t need to borrow from someone else.
But if I were to contribute, I would suggest formations such as “cringe-worthy” to be as least as bad as any other phrase on the list. It’s the perfect passive aggressive phrase: it suggests everyone else should cringe, without actually saying that you cringe. And what does it mean, if you have to state that something “cringe-worthy” also annoys you?
How about “narrative”?
“That being said…”
“At this point in time”
“Just sayin’ ”
“That’ll leave a mark”
Let me be perfectly clear… the human impact on climate change is incontrovertible.
social justice
The one that drives me nuts “I don’t disagree”
Just what does that really mean grammatically.
1. Tax reform, code for tax increases.
2. Revenue increases, same as above.
working families
Community
Sustainable
It’s the – “Religion of Peace”
This is so toxic, it’s bound to go viral.
Or maybe it’s the other way round
I just added “unexpectedly” in the reporting of bad economic news meant to cover up for the Obama administration’s incompetence.
moving “forward”
“unprecedented”
And probably the most inane phrase ever:
“left his feet” – when did feet become detachable? Why don’t receivers “leave their feet” inbounds & catch the ball 5 yards out of bounds???
He/she left the surface they were on ie left the ice to make the hit. There are time worn words for this phrase – jumped, leapt, etc.
“slams” and “ad naseum”
“Champion of positive politics”
“eco family”
“moving forward”
“engaged”
“carbon footprint”
“carbon OFFSET”
“carbon credits”
Page updated. Could you SDA-ers please slow down with the input? I’m now having to miss my customary multiple mid-afternoon naps because of this.
TIA, Paul
EFFORT:- used as a verb. I first heard it on CNN; the commentator said “We’ll effort that lead and update you as soon as possible”. Rick Sanchez I believe.
ACTION:- used as a verb as in “I’ll action that email”.
AS OF YET:- I want to hit someone when I hear it.

Go Riders!
PiperPaul, having a moment, are you? 🙂

Boo! Mine didn’t make the cut. ;o)
To Colin: yes it did.
F-Bomb.
Dear god, every time I hear that one a little piece of my soul dies.
While my previous post was the worst (imho), I’d also like to add:
‘Gate’ as a suffix
Wardrobe Malfunction
New Tone
War on
Sorry about the triple post, darned lack of edit button.
Previous post should read “War on (insert anything here)”
Forgot about http codes preventing the use of brackets.
OK…this is not funny!
Earlier,I posted 3 things that grate on my nerves when I hear them. Those were followed by a simple, heartfelt GO RIDERS cheer for my team…. the Riders.
So I check the master list on the site at the link given and there for all to see in the “Annoying phrases” list is “GO RIDERS”.
I call low-blow ; please remove it forthwith.
(The nerve of some people’s children!) LOL
Whatever…
I dunno
Can’t you figure it out for yourself?
Tres (Tray. As in; tres annoying)
Jack Layton
All very annoying words and phrases.
“I need some closure”…
Tee-hee, Rich. Fixed.
Cheers, Paul
The phrase “Right-wing Ideology” when used by some left-wing whacko who is espousing his/her left-wing ideology.
‘basically’
that one gets to me in ways a North Korean interrogation couldn’t
Thanks Paul.
This has spread.
Earlier, I sent a link to the site to many friends. They checked the site and saw the Go Riders phrase in the list.
Knowing I am a Riders fan, you can imagine the nature of the emails that they sent me in reply.
‘Missionary work’ is still needed.
There is nothing funny about banjos.
Prefacing an answer with, “What I would say is”, and then saying what they just told you they *would* say. What the hell?
The painful, jaunty use of “I’m gonna go ahead and (click on Apply, choose the File menu, ..).”, which makes 90% of Youtube tutorials unwatchable.
Hey, I have a few on there now! Yipee.
Thought of another one:
Man-made Disaster.
Interesting list. But I don’t see what it brings to the table…
IRREGARDLESS of the thoughts of those in Rider NATION (why does every sports team follow my Red Sox lead) I think we can all come to a BI-PARTISAN agreement, with no COMPROMISE necessary that Esks suck
and let’s not forget ‘facilitator’ used as a program deliverer….either you’re teaching something or you’re not…facilitating means making things easy and I haven’t seen a ‘facilitator’ yet that didn’t needlessly overcomplicate things to the point that the entire exercise became pointless and painful.
Operational needs
Sounds harmless, but allows absolute power
By burocratic script.
I despise groups that set out to “raise awareness”.
Knowledge Economy – one of those meaningless, ill-defined terms that people throw around to sound smart and, supposedly, bolster their argument for government “investment” in education and unprofitable technology. Even Google and Bing searches fail to find a clear, coherent definition.
Community Organizer
I don’t like listening to people that ‘grow their business’ unless their business involves growing things in dirt(or hydroponically).
climate crisis
government investments
civil political discourse
social justice
environmental justice
raising awareness
root causes
social safety net
rhizomatics
bling
What’s annoying about “Go Stamps”? Clearly someone’s hacked into the site and painted that Rider Greenâ„¢ which doesn’t make any sense to me…
