Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

CNN yesterday: “we are in the business of kicking candidates out of the race.”
The Republicans think/know that Ron Paul is not pretty enough to beat the beautiful black Bambie..
they want to put him and his congressional baggage on a long slow boat to outer Mongolia..
Kate,
I forgot to mention that video is hilarious..
thanks for posting.
Is ron paul religious at all ? How far right is he i herd him speak once i thought he was good but he was out shined by bacjmann and cain the others you could tell would be like wet noodles under pressure of any sort!!! JMO.
If this keeps up, I might just start watching Stewart…
The MSM including FOX (The proof is in the video) do not want Ron Paul.
So Ron Paul is the best candidate to restore the US to it’s Constitutional intent IMO. Period. He is not part of the corrupt establishment and this is proof positive.
Ron Paul is the best ticket. Too bad he won’t win.
FOX has been the second biggest dissapointment after Barry Soetoro’s accent in the past 3 years IMO.
FOX sucks!
Easy to understand why he never gets mentioned.
He’s unelectable. He’s the right’s answer to Ralph Nader.
Great video. The first I remember hearing of Ron Paul was four years ago. The more I learn about him, the more I like him. As long as the media are geared to novelty (change) and entertainment, an old white guy speaking sense will be ignored. It’s the reverse of the analogy of a stopped clock being right twice a day. Paul is maintaining fundamental American values and the media are circling far away saying they can’t see him so he’s irrelevant. Unfortunately, being right isn’t a terribly important qualification for success in the media but it is for being a good president.
To get national attention and support, I still say Palin/Paul. (If Biden stays on, the VP debate would be revealing, especially when the media overwhelmingly declare Biden the winner).
I don’t agree with Stewart very much and he is a huge hypocrite regarding bias, but he did a bang on job with this segment. I chuckled too.
I think Paul disqualifies himself on the foreign policy front, but the critique of media is bang on.
Agreed Kate. His stance on foreign policy has always been a turn off for me. Does anyone know if his son Rand holds the same views?
Keep this in mind when viewing Ron Paul. He has said on many occasions that the 9/11 terrorist attack on America was America’s own fault. “They are terrorists because we are oppressors” are his words. Do you agree with him? Is this who you want to run the country? If you have any respect for the nation and the world, you will not consider voting for him. He has no clue about international relations and would let Israel, the only democratic republic in the middle east die. Just listen to him, look past the meaningless rhetoric, review his voting record, and take a look at the earmarks he consistently shoves in bills, and you will see how ill suited he is to lead this nation. He and Obama both live in some alternate universe.
Oh, and by the way, Ron Paul supported the Ground Zero Mosque. Cast your vote.
“I think Paul disqualifies himself on the foreign policy front…”
I hear and read that all the time, like a broken record…Like the broken record MSM in fact.
Can someone please elaborate with specifics?
The USA is not sandwiched between multiple countries that could threaten it’s sovereignty like the European/midEast/Eastern blocks proximities are for example. It’s not even close to any major armed “rogue” regimes. Canada and Mexico are no challenge of course and no one in the southern Americas are armed threats either including once supported by Soviet Cuba.
With it’s military might if not sheer supremacy, the Geopolitical position of the USA should be that it could go on “defense” mode without jeopardizing it’s security.
At least Paul’s hints that bankruptcy cannot permit continuing American Imperialism abroad…At least for the time being anyway.
This continuing illogical situation points more and more that clearly the USA and it’s military industrial complex is ruled by an oligarchy.
Again, what are we doing in Libya anyway?…”Get our pilots out” exclaims Kate…
Afghanistan or at least the Taliban threat would be all but non existent or at least a much lesser threat if drugs were declared legal…Another Ron Paul call for sanity.
The war on drugs has been an abject failure that created 100x more misery around the world than the few junkies it claims to try to save.
In the 21st Century’s modern, educated, ultra high speed information world, LIBERTARIANISM is the only way to go, IMO.
Ron Paul considers himself a libertarian. I have read some of his books and I like him. He claims that the USA has troops in 130 countries. If that is true, that must be a tremendous burden on the taxpayers and I think it is time that they come home.
“Easy to understand why he never gets mentioned.”
He’s unelectable.”
Atlantic Jim
And that’s why the media spotlight was on Obama so much before his win as POTUS, right Jim?…Obama, unlike Paul was so much more electable…Give your head a shake.
Obama carried Bush’s legacy and even increased the speed of debt and wars abroad. Obama is the continuation of the same old same old but on overdrive.
According to many SDA faithful, this should carry on by electing more of the same.
After all “Conserve” signifies “keep”, no?
I think the other candidates disqualify themselves on the foreign front, and Paul is the only correct one.
Paul has never said he would let Israel fall and has supported Israels right of self determination. He was unsupportive of the Ground Zero mosque in it being poor taste, but since he supports freedom and property rights including even freedom and property rights for people we don’t like, he said it was wrong to interfere.
That is the problem with some people on this site. They talk about property rights and freedom but have no clue what it means.
Quite apart from Paul’s ideology he is not the man for the presidency. His ideas like Obambam’s don’t fall within the American norm and thus like Obambam he would be at best a one term wonder and at worst like Obambam has to his ideals, discredit his, Paul’s, beliefs for a generation. The US needs a rightist president that is more likely to ‘boil frogs’ than ‘toast pop tarts’.
GOP Brass loathe Paul, the thought of him winning the presidential nomination gives them nightmares – he represents the constitutional republican government that would jail them for the influence peddling and patronage legislating they do.
The GOP brass and the Dem brass come from the same gated communities, went to the same Ivy League schools, joined the same yacht clubs and have the same bankers and represent the same oligarch interests. They run political brokerage parties that are flip sides of the same coin. No difference ideologically or in method, patrons and agendas.
We can only pray that this principled, patriotic little country doctor from Texas can mobilize the vast majority of Americans who are excluded from the political agenda by the Demican or Republicrat party brass.
Up the tea party! Up the second American revolution! Up the reestablishment of the republic! Down with the beltway kleptocratic manifest destiny!
Joe,
Please elaborate on what of Paul’s “ideas like Obambam’s don’t fall within the American norm”…I’ll bet you Paul’s ideas would resonate 5 to 1 with Americans compared to Obama’s ideas, If only his message was properly carried by the MSM…The essence of this thread is to point out that the MSM is blacking out Ron Paul on purpose.
With the last three years of MSM exposing themselves to be whores of a corrupt system with the nomination and win of Barry Soetoro confirms just that.
“The US needs a rightist president that is more likely to ‘boil frogs’ than ‘toast pop tarts’.”
I’ll read this as “We need a hawk and continue to police the world and impose our views and/or we need to go to an all out war to stimulate this stalled economy”…After all, it must be some other’s fault for America’s problems…
Same old. Same old.
The war that Ron Paul wants is on socialism and globalization or anything that forms and/or gives power to interest groups…It ALWAYS ends up being corrupt. Cartels and any type of “union” must be reigned in.
Individualism, self responsability and minimal ubstructed competition in free market is key.
“I think Paul disqualifies himself on the foreign policy front, but the critique of media is bang on.” – kate
I agree with Kate.
RHTT
Since you asked… I consider myself somewhat libertarian, so I watched Ron Paul’s primary last election relatively closely and found myself very well aligned with his POV on most things. THEN… he opened his yap about winding down America’s wars(without regard for the wars and progress themselves), and the rest of his insular so called foreign policy. It was at that instant the “loony” sirens went-off in my head. Furthermore, it’s naive in my POV to think that removing the (let’s call them) “Legacy Troops” from bases in countries around the world wouldn’t have destabilizing effects on the world. Perhaps troops can be reshuffled, but I can’t see how you can maintain being a world power without having a world presence. This is the very same principle for business, but I digress.
Someone said(I don’t recall who) that Libertarians are best suited as “critics” but not as government because the philosophy is too limited for the realities a nation will face. I think I agree with this.
All of that said, the problem in the world isn’t ‘too much America’, the problem is ‘too little from everyone else'(with some exceptions of course). I’m no expert in history, but one thing I gathered from 20th century history at least, is we CANNOT put our heads in the sand as Ron Paul would suggest (or it’s perceived he does), and let the world burn because ‘we’re safe’. This ‘safety’ would ultimately be temporary as the enemies of freedom, whomever they may be, would continue to fester and prey on the weak until they ultimately are a threat, and we are no longer safe.(Note: if this isn’t Ron Paul’s policy, then he’s not adequately articulated his foreign policy to the folks, because the perceptions of his FP are what they are.)
In my somewhat ignorant POV, I believe the problem today(foreign policy wise) might be that some of those 20th century alliances may have very well outlived their usefulness; and, perhaps new alliances are necessary and available as the strategic maps must be re-written to suit the 21st century realities. As GWB spoke of when he was in Saskatoon, that it was naught but 50(or 60) years ago that his father and the father of the Japanese Prime Minister were at war, and yet now, and when he was POTUS, the Japanese and America are strong allies, and he and the Japanese Prime Minister are fast friends.
Ron Paul is analogous to Preston Manning. His role in politics is not as supreme leader, but vital none the less.JMO
Well one thing about Ron Paul that I agree with is US withdrawal from Europe and Asia. Those turd lickers don’t want US troops defending them anyway so why not give them what they want? Tell Germany and South Korea to defend themselves. Same deal with Italy. Stop buying oil from terrorists too.
Libertarianism only works if you’re a hillbilly in the mountains away from any other human. It’s not realistic for civilization.
Ron Paul’s drug stance is a nightmare, his foreign policy is defeatist, his gold fetish is outdated, and he’s too old.
If someone skimmed the cream of his arguements and mixed them with reality then it would work.
Yep Tory, he is totally unelectable, if only on his moronic foreign policy stance.
The reason he does so well in these meaningless straw polls are his “Paulbots”. Try putting an online poll up asking who has the greenest hair. Add Ron Paul’s name to that list. Then look at the results. His little bots follow him around like Greatful Dead Deadheads.
How someone like him managed to produce a son like Rand is just one of those freaks of nature.
I’m happy to read that Occam shares my tin foil hat lunacies…We make so little sense…Especially for people who can’t seem to think outside the MSM construed Conservative box.
Main stream Conservatives might miss Bush and Reagan, but I miss Thomas Paine and Jefferson a lot more.
That was the best of John Stewart I have ever seen. Well done and thanks for sharing this.
Atlantic Jim = spot on
Just because they are right does not mean they will win. Republicans need a little water in their wine or they will go no where. I may have liked Alan Keyes spunk back in the day, but I was a realist then as I am a realist now.
If I had a vote to cast, at first blush, Perry would get it.
AtlanticJim at August 16, 2011 11:15 AM
Good comment, says most of what I think about RP.
Jon Stewart’s episode was funny, but what people have to remember is that Stewart is a dye-in-the-wool Democrat polemic and his intent is to sew dissention on the right.
RP wins these straw polls by bussing in supporters(same creeps that freeped every on-line poll and site that even mentioned Paul’s name last election cycle) and then RP loses the scientific polls that his fringe supporters can’t overwhelm.
The media took RP more seriously in 2008.
In 2008 he only got 5% of the Republican primary vote, and won zero states, even losing in his home state of Texas.
After the primary, he acted like a classless buffoon, attacked his own party, refused to withdraw when he clearly lost, then finished up by endorsing some 3rd party nobody.
His supporters followed this childish act with continuing to swarm conservative websites with threats that if RP wasn’t the GOP candidate they would either vote for RP’s nobody candidate or even Obama instead of McCain!
Paul completely lost me when he started playing footsie with 911 truthers. I don’t think he believes that stuff but had a chance to say so and ducked.

“Ron Paul is analogous to Preston Manning. His role in politics is not as supreme leader, but vital none the less.”
Precisely mine own sentiment.
This race has some distance to go before Nov. 22,2011, when nomination papers must be filed for Repubs. Don’t count Paul Ryan out, as he is reported to be scouting fund raisers and interest. Ron Paul has interesting domestic policy points but in his exchange with Santorum on the Fox debate Paul’s support for Iran to have nucs. left me.
“The reason he does so well in these meaningless straw polls are his “Paulbots”.”
Atlantic Jim
Jim,
What’s the difference between a Paulbot and an Obot or a Bachmannbot for that matter?
Although, I do not agree with all their policies, I voted Conservative at the last Fed election, does that make me a Harperbot?… your definition of “Paulbot” seems to imply people that follow blindly…If people would not vote for anything they disagree with from a certain candidate, very few would cast a ballot at all.
All this to say, choosing the one that appeals to you the most does not necessarely make you a mindless drone.
Ron Paul is not the big smile, nice voice, all platitude stiff like say Obama or Romney are and for this I tend to say that Paul supporters are people who study the platform more than the shinny shoes. This makes them more unlikely to be “bots” IMO.

“Libertarianism only works if you’re a hillbilly in the mountains away from any other human. It’s not realistic for civilization.”
Jeff
Funny, I see it differently:
Libertarianism only works with educated, bright and articulate people who take their own responsabilities, are honest and have integrity.
It’s not realistic anymore in a sesspool of ignorance and selfishness created by socialism but should always be strived for and encouraged as an ideal.
Hillbillies were tribal, not Libertarian. Ever heard of feuds?
Early America and Canada were the closest thing to Libertarianism although based on strong Christian faith at the time.
Ron Paul has the right idea in bringing the troops home. The United States is no longer united, the Dems and Repubs are two sides of the same coin, but they hate each other. They stand as a house divided, and that weakens them on the world scene. The troops are full of conservatives who love their country and are trained to protect its interests. There ain’t no dems in the armed forces, to be sure.
They will need to be back on home soil to bring peace and order to the land if Obama gets in…again.
RHTT
The perception I have of RP is precisely that which AtlanticJim articulates, that RP has a large following of sycophants that create the appearance of broad based support that isn’t really there. I was saying to my wife a week ago after a John Stossel program that “RP is the oracle of the libertarian movement in the USA”. In fact, the unabashed support for RP from his sycophants creates the impression (in my mind at least) of a “cult” type following. As I said in my previous comment, if my(and many others) perception of RP is wrong(as you’d suggest), then I can come to no other conclusion that: he’s not articulated his foreign policy views adequately. That said, for someone so articulate about a number of other issues, I find it difficult to believe that RP simple “is who he says he is”, or something like that. I suspect Jay Cutler would have a better chance winning the GOP nomination, but I digress.
What you seem to fail to grasp, is that most of us(I suspect) would like to support a guy like RP, as he’s clearly a whole lot more ‘good’ than ‘bad’ from a conservative POV. Perhaps, just perhaps, we that agree with you on so much, simple disagree with you about RP for good reason; not because we’ve been duped.
BTW speaking of football, how about a NFL thread kate? Perhaps an SDA fantasy league?(think fast, time’s running-out)
typo
sub *simply for *simple in both cases above.
Stewart is one intelligent and shrewd left-lib comedian (are there any more than a dozen that are not left-lib?). He knows that the only hope that the left has of holding on to the Senate and White House in 2012 is if there is a splitting-up of the loose coalition known as the Tea Party. By adding humor to the obvious MSM and Fox (rude and disrespectful) Paul blindness, he can ignite debates such as the ones above in the comments.
In the US, libertarians are a real political presence but at best, no more than 10% of the electorate. If they didn’t use the Republican Party as their temporary conduit and collectively went third party they could do to the Republicans what the Greens did to the Liberals in Canada. In fact many did that to “punish” Republicans for Bush in 2008.
If he had a chance, I would go with Paul but the only way to get rid of the current resident of the WH is to concentrate on the economy with the social and fiscal conservatives who out-number libertarians 4 to 1. The Gold standard is fine as long as the public realizes that deflation coinciding with productivity gains is normal (that might take some education). America is becoming more isolationist (thanks in large part to the obvious futility of Afghanistan, never mind Libya) and the number of non-libertarian people that can see the futility of the war on drugs is increasing as well.
With Congress in gridlock, a deceitful, corrupt, overgrown infant ideologue in the White House and the nation going broke, the 2012 campaign is the only game in town.
I wonder how long before mentioning a candidate in MSM makes him/her unelectable ?
The US isn’t ready for Ron Paul libertarianism, yet. The disgust for both Dems and GOP is building, hence the Tea Party Republicans, but it’ll take a few more elections (and economic pain) to gain more converts. I doubt that there will ever be a Libertarian POTUS but, like the BLOC or Reform Party, a small group can wield a disproportionate amount of power.
The media, being statists on the left and right, will never accept limited government or a defense focused military.
Well RHTT I guess you misread what I was trying to say. My point is that RP has ideas that to many many Americans are radical. Should he try to implement them he will fail because he is toasting pop tarts and not boiling frogs. In other words he wants to act too quickly for the American people and would thus soon lose their support. As much as you and I may detest it ‘progressivism’ is the norm in the US. The conservatives in the US must begin slowly and painstakingly dismantle the New Deal/Just Society that has been elevated to Holy Writ status. You CAN NOT make such fundamental changes by toasting pop tarts. You have to take the time to boil the frog. You start out slowly and incrementally move in the right direction. You don’t make sudden moves or radical changes. You have got to play the long game or you will never attain your goal.
The media did this to Reagan, it took 3 tries for him to win the presidency.hat was before things like the internet, the media (and a few in here) can continue bashing Dr Paul all they want, the more he is ignored the more votes he will get. The citizens are on tot he game of ignore and dismiss.
IT WILL NOT WORK THIS TIME!
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections/election_2012/election_2012_presidential_election/gop_primary_perry_29_romney_18_bachmann_13
Perry is winning!
Google Ron Paul Anti Semite. He has a long history in this regard.
Also has he ever run anything?
Ron Paul . The Real Elephant in the room.
Well i am thinking perry as prez and either one of palin, cain ,or bachmann as vp plain and simple everyone else is just regular run of the mill snake oil sales men who will be fear mongered into the same old garbage spending and taxing and all of the rest .
I want to see a buisness owner literally slash the american govornment buracracy in half at least right across the board .
Ron Paul´s FP views are asinine and no good for a president, even though I agree with him on some FP stuff. It´s a pity because he´s so good on so much other stuff. Unfortunately the other GOP candidates are also poor on FP just in different ways except for Johnson possibly.
There is a very wide range of FP views in libertarianism. RP´s are not similar to mine.
Unfortunately the other GOP candidates are also poor on FP just in different ways except for Johnson possibly.
~libertariansaresmarter
Yeah well RP was born in 1935 and this is his 3rd? Presidential run.
Any expectation that he will develope a realistic FP at this stage is unrealistic.
So where were you pragmatists last R.P. thread when I was all alone arguing that Paul, for all his virtues, is basically too rigid on foreign and just too much of an oddball to be elected?
What a bunch of ignorant comments! You folks have no clue about any of it. So stay asheep!
“Perry is winning!”
Sure he is…He’s already stealing from Ron Paul’s playbook by bashing the FED and Bernanke…Perry will milk this all through the campaign to woo the TEA party and steal the Ron Paul supporters. I like what he says, I’m just worried he will change back to same old once he enters the WH.
And Donald Trump is already backing Perry…The same Trump who help “sabotage” the elligibility issue when Jerome Corsi released his book which had headlined on the Drudge Report a day or 2 before.
Trump works for the corrupt Washington establishment.
“What a bunch of ignorant comments! You folks have no clue about any of it. So stay asheep!”
Cocoa
Yeah I know, many SDA’er, like many mainstream Conservatives, especially the Canadian ones, think that all is “OK” in Washington, a simple little error that Obama slip through the cracks…Otherwise the machine is good as long as it is driven by a person who has a “Conservative” shirt on.
I hope they are right, that the corruption of Washington is not as bad as I think.
I am the regular tin foil hat SDA’er around here…I am not afraid to think outside the box and more so not afraid to doubt out loud; not necessarily a Canadian trait to be sure.
Apparently the smarmy Stewart doesn’t realize that he is part of the same team that ignores or sweeps under the rug whatever and whomever they don’t like, calls their opponents stupid and evil and gives knowing nods and eyerolls when they speak or are spoken of. Sarah Palin, anyone?
