A whole lot of announcing by senior federal Conservatives will be going on tomorrow; this appears to be the reason:
Royal to return to Canadian Forces
Remember there never was a Royal Canadian (or British) Army. As for the observatory…other suggestion for resurrecting previous names?
Update via Milnet.ca:
CANFORGEN 147/11 VCDS 021/11 151502Z AUG 11
RESTORING THE HISTORIC NAMES OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN NAVY, THE CANADIAN ARMY AND THE ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FORCE.
UNCLASSIFIED
THE CDS IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE GOVERNMENT IS RESTORING THE HISTORIC NAMES OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN NAVY (RCN), THE CANADIAN ARMY (CA), AND THE ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FORCE (RCAF)
THE INITIATIVE TO RESTORE THE HISTORIC NAMES OF CANADA’S THREE FORMER SERVICES IS AIMED AT RESTORING AN IMPORTANT AND RECOGNIZABLE PART OF CANADA S MILITARY HERITAGE. THESE WERE THE SERVICES THAT FOUGHT AND EMERGED VICTORIOUS FROM THE SECOND WORLD WAR AND KOREA AND CONTRIBUTED TO THE DEFENCE OF EUROPE AND NORTH AMERICA FROM THE EARLY DAYS OF THE COLD WAR. THESE WERE ALSO THE SERVICES THAT PAVED THE WAY IN TERMS OF INTERNATIONAL PEACEKEEPING MISSIONS
THE CHANGE WILL BE IMPLEMENTED BY RENAMING THE THREE ENVIRONMENTAL COMMANDS. MARITIME COMMAND WILL BE NAMED THE ROYAL CANADIAN NAVY LAND FORCE COMMAND WILL BE NAMED THE CANADIAN ARMY AND AIR COMMAND WILL BE NAMED THE ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FORCE. IN THIS WAY WE WILL REGAIN AN IMPORTANT PART OF OUR COLLECTIVE HERITAGE WITHIN A UNIFIED EFFECTIVE CANADIAN FORCES COMMAND STRUCTURE..

Nice. Finally getting away from the Liberal “one service one uniform ” nonsense and putting pride back into the individual services. Great to be a Royal Canadian.
Good can we have the Airborne now back please?
Great news! Oh happy day.
Now the RCN tattoo on my arm will have regained its meaning.
Now the RCN tattoo on my arm will have regained its meaning.
Apparently SOME members of the CAF are very much upset by this return to the “Royal”.
Wonder which group that’d be.
Dominion Day
Dominion Day . . but I have always called it Dominion Day . . just to sour up the Turdeaupian multi kulti mobs
No to the shit eaters, I hope. GL@3:41
good news otherwise
I don’t get the ENVIRONMENTAL COMMANDS thing, air, land, sea but the term used just seems wrong to me.
About time!
Can mandatory military service be on the agenda?
Or at least voluntary service with real educational, vocational, financial reward for say committing to 5 years of service?
My view is …I hope so.
I hear 2 years national service may be in the cards..
national service?
as long as they declare Neutrality first and require equality and non-discrimination (incl. age, children exempt of course) in conscription.
i’d go for that.
I guess this is the militarization of Canada that Harper is always blamed for?
I just checked, it’s not April 1st.
Nice! Window dressing, but if portends actually fixing some of what is wrong, I’m happy.
While I very much appreciate the history, I think this is a retrograde step. Certainly, unification served no one very well, but since repatriation of the (ptooie) constitution, Canada’s armed forces should stand to serve in Canada’s name, alone. Adding the “royal” back re-subjugates the services, rather than acknowledges its history. Canadian Army, Canadian Air Force, Canadian Navy, Canadian Rangers, works for me. Just give them some damned uniforms so we can tell them apart.
Excuse me blanks. explain yourself
Politely she asked of blanks to explain his/her remarks re the poop digesters.
YAY!
Now let us never let the political fairies mess the domain of the Real Canada again.
Canadian Mounted Police?

I swore allegiance to the Queen in 1963 and served 6 years in the RCN. The piss-ass Liberal Paul Hellyer changed the role of the RCN, which was Anti-Submarine detection. The RCN went from # 1 to an also ran. They can’t keep the Sea Kings on the line…I hope this helps to encourage excellence in performance..
BTW: I refused to serve in the Hellyer Navy
Now we just need the Royal Canadian Inter-Continental Nuclear Missile Division to get up and running and we’re good to go.
Per ardua ad astra!!
Pity about the Canadian Army. They really weren’t
to blame for the Civil War.
Canada’s armed forces should stand to serve in Canada’s name, alone. Adding the “royal” back re-subjugates the services, rather than acknowledges its history.
And who is Canada’s Head of State?
(hint: She lives in Buckingham Palace and Canada is one of her 16 Commonwealth Realms))
This is much more significant than reclaiming our armed forces.
It is a continuation of reclaiming our judeo christian (and dare I say common law based, British contstitutional) heritage.
It is every bit as important as the new citizenship booklet – and maybe moreso.
Bring back the Red Ensign, if only to watch the lefties’ heads explode.
As the son of a career naval officer in the RN and RCN who took early retirement rather than “put on bus driver’s uniforms” (as he put it), the announced name change pleases me. Dad passed away a few years ago. I’d like to think that this news will bring him a rueful smile.
A related poll at the CBC.
“Do you like the name changes for Canada’s armed forces?”
Bravo and about time. I also want Dominion Day back but this is a good start.
What absolutely wonderful, fantastic news. A small but significant step in turning back the ruin that has been visited upon us by that ba$tard Turdeau.
If Quebec doesn’t like, please feel free to seperate and you can call your “armed forces” what ever you like. May I suggest “Freeloaders de Quebec” or perhaps “Super Fantastic Surrender Force” Perhaps we could have a contest!
TGL @4:36
Leave the homo hazing rituals to the skull&bones fraternities, has no place in the army.
So none of the jobs are changing, we’re just going to call them something else?
Waste of your tax dollars.
Try to imagine all of the documents created by the organizations with the new names over the past 30 years.
Flyers, advertising, web pages, legal documents, maps, graphics, unit insignia, flags, business cards, rubber stamps, etc….
All needs to be changed, anything now in stock will be thrown out as soon as the new stuff arrives.
Vanity, no other reason.
This is a major sea-change in Canada’s government. This is Mr. Harper FINALLY sticking his thumb in the eye of every Trudeau-legacy chair polisher in Ottawa, and there are a lot of them.
It also portends well for something I mentioned the other day. As the USA ceases to be the world police, the Liberal Party policy of “let the Yanks do it” is not going to fly. Arming up Canada to protect all that oil out west and all that everything else up north is long overdue, and something I’m glad to see Harper getting on. If we start our build-up now, by the time certain foreign nations begin thinking they’d like to own Baffin Island we’ll have a nice, big, scary-@ss Canadian military. Which means, no fighting.
Fighting sucks. We don’t want to be doing it.
A few years ago I went to see my MP, who was David Sweet. Three things I wanted from him were:
1) end the gun registry
2) end the HRCs
3) bring back the Avro Arrow.
Bringing back the Army, the RCN and RCAF is almost as good as number three. Way to go David Sweet and company.
And second the motion to reform the Airborne Regiment.
By the way, does this mean flying the Red Ensign is no longer an act of protest?
Skip trots out the Liberal/PET Cemetery lie:
“repatriation of the (ptooie) constitution,”.
There was no constitution ever.
The Dominion of Canada was created by the British parliament and is embodied in the British North America Act (1867).
In addition, there was one founding nation; namely, Britain.
Canada is a constitutional monarchy. Canada is a gift from the British monarchy.
God Save The Queen.
I wish my Dad (RCAF) had lived to see this. He used to rant about the damage Hellyer was causing.

That CBC poll is going horribly wrong….67% aprove the return to the old titles….
Blanks
go troll elsewhere….or say that to a para…
Amen macd, AMEN!!!
This is very cool! My daughter, a Royal Canadian Air Cadet presently in glider training can aspire to have RCAF pilot wings in a few years just like both of her grandfathers.
Thanks for that link, max,it’s currently 67.7% “yes”to renaming them “Royal Canadian”.
I’ve had many relatives serve in the RCAF,two uncles,2 cousins, brother, none ever complained about the “Royal”,actually seemed to like it.
I just wish Eugene Whelan was alive to see his dream of integrating the forces as he did. Killed.
Him of the Green cowboy hat. Liberal to the core.
A Trudeau sycophant with even less brains.

‘Adding the “royal” back re-subjugates the services, rather than acknowledges its history.’
Like the Royal 22e Régiment?
Note, members of that unit ALWAYS refer to themselves as “Royal 22e…”, never the Van Doos.
Yes!
Dominion Day (as proposed earlier) would be good to see; especially to hear, rather than what always seeems to sound like Candadaday.

This recovery of our military tradition and identity is a dream come true for hundreds of thousands.
As for the media, let them have it!
I’m certainly no royals fan but if memory serves me right my old commission scroll mentions Queen Elizabeth the Second. I don’t have a problem with the queen’s name nearly as much as the other name on the scroll. It is James Richardson minister of National Defense that causes me to choke. Not that I hated Richardson as he was one of the most reasonable liberals in Trudeau’s cabinet. It was just that a liberal put his name on my commission scroll. As for giving the Navy and Airforce back their ‘royal’ – meh. At least their names don’t include liberal.
Vanity, no other reason.

Betting you’ve never heard the term ‘Esprit de Corps’ nor understand the need for it in fighting forces.
Sasssquatch
para… shit eater?
Army! (we can say that again, cool)send your para- shit eater over and see if he’ll let me tell him what I think. While is mouth is full of commander Blanks’ chicken meat.
Hell, I’m a republican, and even I think this is a positive move.
Ok, a couple of posts to address but first, let me say it’s GREAT to be in the RCN!

Actually, ALL of the negative feedback I am getting is coming from the Anglo side of the house, none from my Franco wingers. Zero. The happiest of my wingers about this is a young french gal I sailed with about 6 years ago. She’s ecstatic.
The division line is very clear to me. It’s not Anglo/Franco, it’s between those for whom this just a job and those for whom this ia career. I’ve worked with plenty of both, too many of the former.
Now about national service? Not only no, but HELL NO!
It’s bad enough serving alongside folks that are only there for the 15th and the last (payday). Don’t saddle the rest of us with a bunch of whining brats who have zero desire to be there under any circumstance. Even on a purely peacetime footing, the job can be incredibly dangerous. Good men and women’s lives are at stake. That’s no hyperbole.
Good news. I hope it bodes well for real conservative changes elsewhere in the next session. [cough, cough, HRC, cough]
To be fair, Chris, they are the largest francophone population never to have surrendered to the Germans.
I agree: Let’s get rid of another vestige of Trudeaudopia – Canada Day – and restore it to its proper name: Dominion Day.
