Now, if a teacher tries any stiff measures, e.g., a tough, logical, well-worded, verbal challenge (that the kid, invariably doesn’t like), all it takes is a complaint from the kid’s parent—or the kid, him/herself (conflict of interest, perhaps?)—to get the teacher hauled in by administration to explain his/her conduct.
This put-down of the teacher, who’s just following board/school protocol, is so hypocritical and demeaning, it really saps teachers’ energy and spirit. When teachers are humiliated, and disciplined for disciplining, the cry-baby Mlle DePapes of this world and her zombie clones here are not an unexpected result.
At least their spoiled brat, very public displays of pique are letting the general population know what kind of “adults” we’re turning out these days. I’ve just returned from an information meeting on the HST held at our local university. Speaking against the HST were former Premier Bill Vander Zalm and NDP strategist/communications guy, Bill Tielman. Speaking for the tax was an economist from UBC and a local Chartered Accountant.
The crowd, primarily NDP partisans were incredibly rude. While people like myself were there to hear the pros and cons of the new tax, they were there to browbeat and intmidate the economist and accountant. Jeers, catcalls and snide comments were a constant – until I yelled out “let the man speak!” – after which it calmed down for 10 minutes before the intimidation resumed again.
These people don’t want to listen to debate and more importantly, they don’t want others to have the opportunity either, lest they be swayed in the ‘wrong’ direction.
At the end of the event, one of the more rabid NDP partisans stood in front of the stage, demanding we give him our attention for his own diatribe against the government. Self-centered, attention seeking, juvenile jerks – even at 60 or more years old.
And speaking of attention seeking, self-serving jerks, Vander Zalm still represents himself as a ‘right of center’ conservative, but in attacking the tax (BTW, he brought in the much hated ‘property transfer tax’ twenty years ago and it still haunts us today) by attacking ‘big corporations’ and the exporting of resources he demonstrated that
