  1. I went to the link, and the CBC logo came up, but underneath was just a vast, empty area that didn’t change.
I guess I was in the right place after all!

  2. Print story at CBC here
Ignatieff is finally honest about something we all knew. He finally comes out and says what the election is all about. Good on him for the new found honesty.

Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff said he would follow parliamentary rules and be willing to try and form a government if Stephen Harper wins the most seats but fails to win the confidence of the House of Commons.
“If the governor general wants to call on other parties, or myself, for example, to form a government, then we try to form a government,” Ignatieff told CBC’s Peter Mansbridge in an exclusive interview Tuesday afternoon.

  3. Oh, he’s botoxed all right. The surgeon just stuck the needle in a tad too deep.

  4. Mansbridge has been around quite a while, and though he’s a liberal,I think even HE realises Ignatieff can NOT bring about a Liberal victory.
Ignatieff harps on the “can you trust him” (Harper)theme, perhaps not realising there’s NO reason to trust HIM.
Ignatieff has no record of public service or a job well done in Canada,he’s an unknown here in the Country he tolerates.
Trust? Why the hell should I trust YOU,Mr.Ignatieff, except to trust that if the going gets tough, you’ll go some place else.

  5. I’m not even 5 minutes in and my head exploded. Did I wake up in bizarro world? Did someone pull a Manchurian Candidate on Mansbridge?
Botox? Nah, the Count’s probably using the old blood of virgins Ignatieff family recipe.

  6. The tone of Peter’s voice is the same as a grandfather speaking to his grandson, in describing how he courted his wife in the months after the war…
It’s love. .. and that’s ok, I just think the campaigning the CBC is doing should count towards the Liberal’s campaign expenditures.

  7. sun news has been on 1 day and mansbridge goes after iggy…wtf, was that a job interview for mansbridge ?

  8. NUTTY PROFESSOR forgets the 2008 coalition was ‘playing by the rules’ and it was vehemently opposed by the public (which is why he flip/flopped on the issue in the first place). As Brian M. has stated above, the needles went in too deep and I think they sucked his memory dry.

  9. Not a very impressive speaker, definitely does not like to be told anything and becomes very agitated under pressure. Weak leader!

  10. Mansbridge did do a surprisingly good job. Based on Martin and Dion, the MSM doesn’t get tough with a lame Liberal leader so soon. Usually this happens in the last week to ten days of the election period.
One point that I thought was particularly good and should be more thoroughly discussed is about what threshold of seats would be required by the 2nd and 3rd place parties to make them their “accord” legitimate in the eyes of voters.
For the record, I am still hoping for a CPC majority but sticking to my prediction of a CPC led government with a few LPC defectors in the event of another CPC minority (after they lose a vote of confidence in Parliament). I think MI’s interview today will solidify his support with wavering leftists but unsettle center-left fiscally conservative liberals, making a CPC majority more likely.

  11. No this interview is the nail in the coffin. Wow just wow I’m really astonished. Even @kady is worried.

  12. Great link… Mansbridge – for once – impressed me, and didn’t give Iggy the free ride the CBC has given him up to this point. Could have been tougher still, but generally this was a good interview and got Iggy to FINALLY fess up about a coalition. Mansbridge did let him dodge why he supported the 2008 coalition question… Iggy quickly danced around that and he let him away with it, but I think we all heard what we needed to in the end.

  13. lol!! Mansbridge knows who will have an unfettered grip on the purse-strings come may 3rd.

  14. Don’t know why Liberals get so uptight about new jails. Would think they’d appreciate modern accommodation.

  15. i have said it before on here Bob Rae is driving this Unwanted election, knowing very well as to what could happen And knowing very well the PM has stated many a time in the past before this election call that it is very hard to achieve a Majority in this country.
Rae was the Instigator behind the David Peterson Liberal & Bob Rae NDP Pact that saw Frank Miller’s Conservatives win the most seats to form a minority here in Ontario back in 1985 only to see that disapear on the first confidence vote where the Liberals/NDP pact was formed & thats what they called it.
It was a disatrous next few yrs as the Ndp had control of the Ontario Legislature.

  16. Don’t know about Botox but his handlers have taken an industrial strength weed whacker to his nose hair problem he has in the last campaign.
    Probably got a few bales.

  17. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong as for the life of me I can’t fugure on how Micheal Ignatieff can look Peter Mansbridge (and us the viewers in the face) and say that if the 2008 coalition coup had taken place then he would be PM.
He was only a rookie MP at the time and not Leader of the Opposition.
That would have been Stephane Dion and he nor any of the LPC top brass would have vacated/turfed/let Mikhail take that leader’s role at that time.
So where does he get this stuff from?
A legend in his own mind perhaps.

  18. Mansbridge, may have inadvertently been tuff on the poor Count because of the horniness the MSM has been feeling lately due to the rise of Layton in the polls. They’re very excited about the possiblity of the NDP becoming the official opposition with Jack leading the way. This would allow those in the MSM to place their vote and support(on air) exactly where they’ve always thought it should be.
(how about this for a poll question?)
If Jack Layton would become the offical Leader of the Opposition, do you think he would still be interested in a coalition with IGGY?

  19. I meant to add that Mansbridge was much improved on this interview.
See what a little (SNN) competition will get you!

  20. Mansbridge must know Iggy is doomed. He was pretty tough on him for an ally. Not bad. Perhaps CBC is toughening up in the wake of the new Sun TV offering.
Nothing like competition to make you sharpen up eh?

  21. Can you trust or take Ignatieff’s word for anything he says – you decide.
Mr. Ignatieff said. “So I rejected the coalition in 2008 and I’ve gone into this election, firmly excluding it.”
Ignatieff signed the document along with all other Liberal MP’s that was presented to the Governor General for the coalition in 2008 – we know it and have the proof .
Does he take Canadian voters as a bunch of turnips or is he a pathological liar?
Ignatieff said “I think, at this election, it’s actually crucial for people to know what you’re voting for,”
It sure is and Ignatieff has tried to pull one over on us once too often.

  22. Where is the money to run this liberal campaign coming from? That is a question we need to ask this Russian Count. Peter didn’t let him totally off, but for a party that couldn’t pay for jet fuel last time, into the banks for millions, leadership bills still unpaid from 06 and 08, with virtually no donors, sure seems funny there is unlimited resources now, Tides, Move ON, Avaaz? Please Iggula, you, have a hidden agenda, and a hidden money tree. What about your carbon tax, or to us Albertans Turdoughs Frankenstein NEP 2, Lieberals are for people with no memory who want no money and no responsibilities but a govt to tuck them in.

  23. It’s funny watching the liberals still not getting it on twitter. We need our voters to realize that if they don’t get off the couch to vote CPC they get Iggy’s coalition. Mission accomplished today.

  24. I watched this while sitting in a dentists chair this afternoon. I must have been letting my reactions show because the hygienist kept asking if she had hit a sensitive spot.

  25. I’m-Peter-Mansbridge-and-you’re-not is just trying to save face. He’s throwing Iggy under the bus as it dawns on him — ‘took awhile, didn’t it? — that Iggy’s doomed.
As others have pointed out, the media will now see Taliban Jack Laydown as the guy to beat Prime Minister Harper — or, at least to be the head of a coalition government should the HOC decide after the election to vote no-confidence in a CPC minority, should this be the outcome.
Iggy says about such a coalition — we’re “just playing by the rules.” That’s the new meme; Bob Rae just said the same thing, word for word, on SunTV in his interview with Krista Erikson.

  26. As several commentators noted above the presence of SUN TV is evident in this interview. CBC now has to demonstrate some credibility.
To give a related example when Germany finally allowed private health care the public system got much more efficient and patient friendly.
    True competition is our friend.

  27. Mansbridge called Iggy out on “you get the first TRY”. That is shockingly refreshing.
“sun news has been on 1 day and mansbridge goes after iggy…wtf, was that a job interview for mansbridge ?”
“Not bad. Perhaps CBC is toughening up in the wake of the new Sun TV offering.Nothing like competition to make you sharpen up eh?”
Good points. The invisible hand of competition works in mysterious ways. Now that Mansbridge has serious competition, he can “rise up” and meet it or keep sliding. Here’s hoping Sun TV has a significant impact on Canadian TV delivery because we need the help of images to get our message across.

  28. I commented on a CBC thread a while ago. What I said was I did not understand why they were spending the last bit of their credibility on a dead horse. Being in the tank has it’s drawbacks. Whoever waxed his caterpillars left some lumpy spots that make him look like he is always surprised. Not a confidence builder.

  29. That interview was full of bad Edits, how many takes did he need to keep him on a Message or on any message…Post production events are not Honest. LIVE ONLY!
I agree CBC is hinting that the NDP is a more Canadian…Canadian opposition.. They baited him on the numbers of significance or lack there of…
I hope the party (Iggy) of George Soros losses all credibility, the EU/UN party should run on its real platform.. take the Mask off.. George!

  30. Agreed, bartinsky. Where is all the money coming from? Last night, alone, I must have seen a Liberal attack ad played five to six times on SUNTV.
I suspect the Librano$ are hoping to win the election — or, at least be part of a coalition government — and then they won’t have to answer to anyone about where the money’s coming from.
If the CPC wins a majority government, I hope there’s an investigation into the Liberal$’ finances which, I suspect, will be somewhat shy of legal. The way the Liberal$ operate always veers towards jiggery-pokery — or, as Judge Gomery put it in his report “operates within a culture of corruption.”
(I really want to hear that line quoted a few times on SUNTV …)

  31. I think Peter is a very sharp and crafty person…when it suits him or the “natural governing party”. I cannot even stand watching CBC, especially the slaphead, and have not for the last 10 years. All he is doing is covering his options.

  32. @ batb: I for one hope the Libs continue wasting their (non existent) money on buying ads on SUNTV. The deeper in the hole they are by the end of this election, the better off Canada is in the long run.

  33. Could someone please explain to this poor uniformed yank, what is meant by refering to him as “the fist american” prime minister? I have been searching and have not really came up with a good answer. Thanks

  34. It’s because the CBC is showing even more pro-NDP bias than pro-Liberal now. The CBC is absolutely fawning over Jack Layton.
Either way, the Canadian taxpayer has to pay for the personal political tastes of CBC execs and producers while they pretend they represent all Canadians. Even if it were a private station their lack of journalistic objectivity would be disgraceful, but as a taxpayer funded station it is beyond inexcusable.

  35. I’ll watch the interview later. Too soon after supper and all.
I did notice the Joe Biden look and would say he tweezed the unibrow into a pair but he still manages to have that “looking down on his subjects” scowl.

  36. How many times does he say ‘I’? This man is arrogant, smarmy, and just plain untrustworthy. It’s not about Canadians, it’s about HIM!!!!!

  37. Iggy’s interview, essentially:
    1) Bash Stephen Harper.
    2) BASH Stephen Harper.
    3) BASH STEPHEN Harper.
    4) BASH STEPHEN HARPER.
    5) BLAH. BLAH. BLAH.

  38. How is giving 1000 bucks a year towards tuition EVER going to encourage someone to go to school who wouldn’t be able to already. That barely covers the books! (or the beer)….Also, who’s to say that universities wouldn’t just jack the price by 1000 bucks? This learning passport thingy is a joke. Iggy is a joke. How else can he bribe us with our own money?
