The ad cites an Aug. 26, 2010 Globe and Mail piece for the first statement, and runs it with a headline that says “It’s Past Time the Feds Scrapped the Canada Health Act.”
But while that line did indeed appear in the Globe and Mail last year, it was in a column by writer André Picard. Picard was citing Harper from a 1997 statement he made as vice-president of the NCC.
A Google search makes it clear the line is oft-cited but never with a link to a recording or speech text. It’s usually sourced to a famous speech Harper made in Montreal to a conservative American group called the Council for National Policy (where he calls Canada a northern European welfare state).
Now it appears Harper didn’t use the line at all.

You see the problem is two fold
1) They got some info wrong, but that isnt the big problem for the LIBS
2) They spend money making ads, they spend money buying time for those ads. So now, they have to fill the time they bought for their big setpiece ad with something else that isnt on strategy for them (the tlaking head iggy ad) and secondly they need to spend more money building another high quality ad to put in its place.
Money they dont really have
So they lose time, they lose money and they have to re adapt.
Now I think their pick a quote web poll is a clever idea…but none of the quotes are going to be as good, because if they were they would have used them. Silk purse from sows ear (hats off to Donolo)
But this stirs up the story regarldess about Health Care, which prior to 2 weeks ago wasn’t really an imminent issue….wonder how any questions the Liberals asked about Health Care in month leading up to election call…..why do I think it will be something approaching zero?
Typical Liberal election plan…health care scare, hidden agenda, US GOP lackey’s (“US Style”) and any day now the abortion issue will be brought up….they have already tried. And the usual, this is an election about values…I have been hearing that one since Chretien used it 1993. Whenever they are backed into a corner it becomes about who represents your values….a valid question that doesnt really yield the Liberals the answer it used to.
This is the same campaign they have run for over 10+ years. Should yield them dimishing returns, ie less votes than last time.
BTW, wtf does Iggy know about our HEalth Care system, was he around for any of the debates. Was he around for the cutbacks his party put in place to solve the deficit crisis his party caused and fought solutions on. He wasnt here. And bringing up his mother is ridiculous, by all accounts he showed up toward the end for a couple of months and then screwed off again.
Come on Liberals, pick someone who is genuine.
Oh I wonder what kind of extra private health care Iggy got as a prof at Harvard, pretty good plan there. And did he just go to the regular NHS service in the UK when he was there or did he avail himself of a Chelsea doctor, you know privately delivered healthcare.

I am watching Ezra on his new Sun tv show, It’s just great, I trust the topic of this post will be discussed at some point.
There is two weeks left in the federal election campaign and we now have the voice of Sun to help keep it real.
The word is now out that this ad is a lie. I can’t help but believe that the more they show it the worse the Lieberals will look.
You know – a proof is a proof is a proof.
Lies always travel further than any subsequent corrections. There are undoubtedly thousands of people who have seen the Liberal ad but who won’t see (hear, read) about the subsequent revelation that the Liberal “quote” is an out-and-out lie.
Like the old saying goes, how do you un-smear someone?
As much as I dislike what the NDP stands for, I’ve got to give them credit for an excellent TV ad campaign.
So to review the Liberal response: “We didn’t lie, we’re just incompetent.” The same kind of Hobson’s choice they offered when they were in government; “We’re not corrupt, we just don’t know what were doing”. Love how they try to throw the print sources under the bus for not doing their own diligence

What the Conservatives are concerned about, Mr. Ignatieff, is Prime Minister Harper being misquoted in the LPC ad. That’s serious business, to misquote the PM in order to put him and his party in a bad light.
Of course, the Librano$ are short on principle and long on corruption (Judge Gomery, the LPC works “within a culture of corruption”): If it works for them, great, and who cares if they dishonestly slag a political opponent in the middle of an election?
For Ignatieff to assert that the CPC’s concern about the faulty attribution of a quote to PM Harper is only because the competition is “tight” (not as tight as he’d like) is disingenuous — and dishonest — in the extreme. You can’t just go around telling lies about your political opponents — and I’m surprised Mr. Ignatieff doesn’t know this.
Politicians lie.
And they lie especially bad, when they are losing.
Mr. Harper and the CPC would do the same, if they were behind this much.
Politicians of all parties are effectively dismantling the Canada Health Act. McGuinty in Ontario passed the biggest tax hike in history, supposedly to fund health care, but, in reality, to give to the ‘education’ lobby, of which his main backer, the teacher’s union is all about.
Everybody makes mistakes. A person with integrity, fixes them and makes amends … apologizes even.
Ignatieff’s response comes across like a whiny little kid.
I had much higher hopes for Ignatieff. I heard that he was smart and hoped he would act with integrity, but he is just another Liberal who will say anything for power.
Today, Ignatieff showed his true self. On May 2, Canadians have a choice to make. Canada’s future will be bright with a Harper lead conservative Government.
Integrity is aquired not feined.

I am thrilled to be able to watch Sun TV as of today; what a breath of fresh air! While it has nothing to do with Sun TV, I am seeing for the first time (I had stopped watching anything related to “news” on TV prior to Sun TV), we are being flooded with Liberal ads even on Sun TV. I must say the ads are enough to make one throw up with their dishonest desperate attempt to scare everyone away from the CPC.

The Liberals still have a lot of allies in influential positions where it counts. For instance, in my son’s Gr 8 media class today, the teacher made every student take the CBC’s Vote Compass. When they didn’t understand a question, the teacher explained what the question meant. Lo and behold, the Compass observed that my son’s political views were best represented by the Liberal Party. Mao’s Red Guards and the Hitler Youth methodology is alive and well in Canada. Still pondering on what course of action to take against the teacher and school, if any is possible.
