I have never been convinced that clothing is the key signal. Men’s vivid imaginations make the amount and type of clothing worn by women irrelevant. You can dress a flirtatious woman up like a nun and she’d still attract sexual attention. It is the verbal and non-verbal signals that is important.
Normal, healthy men in our culture (which protects and respects women’s rights) can easily differentiate between those who are looking and those who are not. Unfortunately, clueless women and girls either do not understand this or have a desperate need for male attention.
IMO, rape occurs when there is mis-communication and alcohol(clueless woman, horny guy) or when the man is not a normal healthy male (a predator). There is not much a woman or society can do in the latter case except mandating long jail terms. But I am actually an optimistic the mis-communication scenario may diminish over time but never completely disappear. The sexual revolution is still relatively recent and the learning curve has been steep. Generation X and Millennial mom’s, having learned a few things during their youth, are less likely to be as naive and gullible as Boomer moms. I believe that middle class mothers will want to protect their daughters and be less permissive.

While I’m not sure that the dress of women results in rape it certainly pisses me off when women walk around wearing almost nothing but yet complain that they are being looked at. However if you are part of the target audience it is okay to look and even comment. The problem is the woman gets to make the judgement regardless of the time or place as to who can appreciate her legs or cleavage and while the attention of that hot guy is welcome, being noticed by that 50 year old is harrassment and he is a dirty old pervert.
Regarding the thousand or so women marching around dressed as sluts to protest a poor statement by one individual cop that to me is another example of people who want to appear to be doing something but really are doing nothing and most of them simply wanted an excuse to go out in public dressed that way.
Besides, given what these women are supposed to be saying, what exacly would dressing like a slut entail. There should be no such thing as I imagine that those they say are dressed as sluts and those who we can’t say are sluts really don’t dress all that differently.

For most of the women on “slut walk” it’s simply wishful thinking — did anyone get a good look at these ugly unkempt Lesbos? These women are so unattractive that they would run no risk of getting raped by even the most sociopathic sexual predators. They could safely walk down a dark alley at 3:00 a.m. in the worst area of Toronto completely in the nude and even the winos and crack heads wouldn’t give them a second glance.

Nobody says, “I’m going to wear lots of diamonds in Mexico — otherwise you’re blaming the victim!”

imo this really is more an assault on language than it is on women or men. The adage “sticks & stones…” seems to have been forgotten in our society today. There are many groups trying to make many words like “slut”, akin to the “n”bomb whereas using them is an indictment on someone’s character. Whether it’s the fem-nazis, the jihadist or any other Progressive demographic, it boils down to their ultimate desire to shutdown free speech. That’s the end game. If you look know, it’s discriminatory to speak negatively of someone on welfare. Actually, I may have insulted someone by the very use of the word “welfare”. My point is that the Progressives wish to ban any derogatory speech directed toward their preferred demographic groups. This in effect thwarts any critical discussion of the social economic costs of government programs, crime, standard of living , health or education as it relates to said demographic groups.
If you extend this logic to any number of “bad” words you can see the underlying political motivation to demonize the people that would dare broach such subjects.
Aside from that, my personal beef with such demonstrators is the blatant disregard for the women in ‘real’ peril. You don’t have to look in Afghanistan, or Iran for examples of women who need our attention and philanthropy. We need to look no further than our own back yards to find women and girls with real abuse issues. Whether it’s those on Native Reserves, or in polygamist prisons, or living in balkanized communities with “barbaric” cultural practices; we turn a blind eye to the everyday plight of the women and girls that live in these communities. Where’s the out-cry?

What is wrong with painting a verbal picture, as the police officer did, in his attempt to help women remain safe on a university campus? I suspect, that as a police officer, he’s interviewed women who’ve been raped or has been present at the aftermath of many rapes: Maybe he’s noticed something about the way the women were dress.
So, for speaking the truth — he wasn’t calling women who get raped “sluts” — he’s vilified.

Rape laws are nice. You know what’s better? Concel and carry freedoms, and for the love of God train your children, especially the girls, in a little basic martial arts. If I had a daughter she would not be dressing like a slag; however, if she got raped, I would not want everything about the case to hang on some cop’s idea of how girls should dress – whatever my own ideas on the subject might be.

About 20 years ago when I was in college (where did the time go? sigh….) I recalled a story in the Vancouver Province about the uproar over a judges decision in a rape case in Florida. The victim had gone out for the evening dressed in a tube top and micro-mini skirt sans undies. The accused has bought numerous drinks and danced a number of times with her. The judge ruled that her mode of dress and actions prior to the act were a means of consent, and that her actions spoke louder than her words, so it was deemed consensual. I think that the part that raised the ire of most of the protesters after the fact was the comment along the lines of “she went out dressed for sex more than a prostitute, and so should not be surprised that she found it.”
I agree, Black Mamba. Going back to “look what she was wearing” is not an improvement. I also think that self defense and martial arts for women should be offered to teen girls as an option for phys.ed credit. Learning the most basic hit and run skills could prevent many attacks.

My friend works for the military – junior position (he’s 24) – he’s not even a soldier, a tech-guy. So I get jiu-jistsu lessons for free, twice a week, because I’m a girl (“gender” balanced stats helps them get more free equiptment). They recruit women, and even the black-belts are not patronizing, or if they are they’re awfully subtle about it.
If that sort of thing is not possible then sign your (generically “your”) girls up for boxing at the YMCA or something but don’t let them be victims. Attitude counts for so much. I always picture one of the great underrated performances in one of my all time favorite movies – Shelley Duvall – The Shining (next clip if I’m indulged).

If I had a daughter she would not be dressing like a slag; however, if she got raped, I would not want everything about the case to hang on some cop’s idea of how girls should dress – whatever my own ideas on the subject might be.

About 20 years ago when I was in college (where did the time go? sigh….) I recalled a story in the Vancouver Province about the uproar over a judges decision in a rape case in Florida. The victim had gone out for the evening dressed in a tube top and micro-mini skirt sans undies. The accused has bought numerous drinks and danced a number of times with her. The judge ruled that her mode of dress and actions prior to the act were a means of consent, and that her actions spoke louder than her words, so it was deemed consensual. I think that the part that raised the ire of most of the protesters after the fact was the comment along the lines of “she went out dressed for sex more than a prostitute, and so should not be surprised that she found it.”
I agree, Black Mamba. Going back to “look what she was wearing” is not an improvement. I also think that self defense and martial arts for women should be offered to teen girls as an option for phys.ed credit. Learning the most basic hit and run skills could prevent many attacks.
Agreed, Black Mamba. A concealed carry is the great equalizer, and in cases where the guy won’t take no for an answer he should take some grains instead.
Forget Phys Ed. It’s not hard or expensive to get them trained properly; most of the guys who do this are very enthusiastic and a lot have daughters of their own.
And some of us happened to have an older brother who is into martial arts. I get your point, Black Mamba, but not all girls are fortunate enough to have access to such services. If progressives can justify classes about putting condoms on bananas then self-defense should also qualify as safe sex instruction.
Oh, Elsie Bennett (you don’t mind, do you? It’s just the way it goes in my head), when I assume absolute power, many things will change, believe me.
My friend works for the military – junior position (he’s 24) – he’s not even a soldier, a tech-guy. So I get jiu-jistsu lessons for free, twice a week, because I’m a girl (“gender” balanced stats helps them get more free equiptment). They recruit women, and even the black-belts are not patronizing, or if they are they’re awfully subtle about it.
If that sort of thing is not possible then sign your (generically “your”) girls up for boxing at the YMCA or something but don’t let them be victims. Attitude counts for so much. I always picture one of the great underrated performances in one of my all time favorite movies – Shelley Duvall – The Shining (next clip if I’m indulged).
Perfect movie, but I can’t help thinking, what if she’d taken a different attitude with that bat?
