Find Your Liberal Candidate

Continued.…

I live in James Moore’s riding of Port Moody-Weswood-Port Coquitlam, and wondered who the Liberal candidate is, and discovered there isn’t one. I thought that odd. It also seemed that there sure weren’t many Liberals running in BC. So I started checking out who is running for the Liberals in every region across the country. According to the Liberals’ website, they are only running 229 candidates in 308 ridings. In fact, unless I’ve made a serious error somewhere, I’ve found that the only province that the Liberals are running a full-slate of candidates is New Brunswick!
Here are the numbers I’ve found. The Liberals of running in:
19 of 36 ridings in BC
14 of 28 in Alberta
8 of 14 in Saskatchewan
7 of 14 in Manitoba
101 of 106 in Ontario
50 of 75 in Quebec
10 of 10 in New Brunswick
10 of 11 in Nova Scotia
3 of 4 in PEI
6 of 7 in Newfoundland
0 of 1 in the Yukon
1 of 1 in the NWT
0 of 1 in Nunavut
Why is the media not talking about this?

Because it requires math, is my guess.

Update – here’s a useful site, thanks to dizzy, in the comments.

  1. My God there’s a lot of naive little puppies posting here on this thread. It’s the Libs who sprung this election on us by defeating the budget. You’d think they would have done a bit of planning ahead, wouldn’t ya? After all, there’s only five weeks till the big day and Canadians have been basically holding our collective breath wondering when this would happen. This is not a surprise attack by the Cons. It’s a much anticipated thrust of the spear by the Libs/Dippers, who I am sure have candidates just waiting to line up at the start line. Or maybe not. They are kinda stupid that way.

  2. Why would anyone expect the Liberals to be -organized-? This is the Natural Ruling Party we’re talking about, right?
As we all know to our cost, if something is working well and you want it broken, crushed and the mangled pieces scattered, you give it to the GOVERNMENT to run. Because the government is pretty much filled up with Liberals.
Liberals can’t organize a two man rush on a three hole out house. That’s why we don’t like them.

  3. Well actually, Louise, the budget was not defeated – it was the charge of contempt that did it … which leaves the door open for another coalition unless the CPC gets a majority … which is the game plan anyway.

  4. Looking at IGGY would you run for him. I mean he changes his mind more than Obama.

  5. How well do you think this ‘coup-altion’ will go over in the West if they take control? My guess is none of them will dare step foot anywhere west of Manitoba. Those Westerners are scarey. Taxation without representation. What a third world cesspool this country is becoming. Long live the Western Republic.

  6. boring.
A bunch of stuffed suits who think they’re superior to everybody trying their best to prove that they’re better than the other suit that proclaims the same thing.
And they don’t realize that the’re full retard stupid.
Seriously at age 35 I wonder why we let adult children apply for the job of running the country.
I think a old Pink Floyd song covered the fact that these people should be locked up with video games that let them f#$k ordinary lives.
Just in case of doubt my vote goes to my conservative MP.

  7. There’ll be a full slate of candidates in just about all ridings, maybe with a few strategic exceptions.
They are, afterall, political whores with a $1.95 price tag.

  8. One of these comments just reminded me….have the Libs paid off their debts from the last election yet???

Lee Reaney is the Liberal candidate for Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar. One can’t assume anything from early numbers from Elections Canada. Parties with less support take longer to get nominations submitted.
I won’t be running again in Saskatoon–Rosetown–Biggar as a Libertarian because:
    1. It’s too much of a hassle to find 100 people willing to sign a nomination paper (even though it in no way implies support)
    2. Unless you know one, finding a CA willing to audit a handful of lines of donations/spending, then wait up to a year to get paid (unless you agree to pay a lot more than the government actually covers) is difficult. Over half of my contributions the last run went to the auditor.
    3. I moved out to Saskatoon–Wanuskewin and I have better things to do than run around talking to people who are *mostly* either disinterested in or completely hostile toward what I have to say.
The correct way to campaign, of course, it to do some reasearch, then tell people what they want to hear. Idealism and elections simply don’t mix.
