The First Coalition Prime Minister

In his first Conservative campaign ad…

“I’m a Democrat… a democratic politician right to the bottom of my feet and the top of my toes”.

  1. Reporters statement:
“The coaliton monkey will stay on your back…”
Well of course we are all delighted that Mr. Ignatieff respects the voter down to his ‘twinkle toes’; but he failed to answer the question.
The frame for the election has already been set:
    PMSH vs the “Coalitionistas”
And the deal on the coalition expires sometime in June 2011 according to their own handwriting; which of course is conveniently after the May 2 vote!
Which invariably brings us back to the following:
Will “Ig’naughty’eff” keep “Harper”ing on in his “‘Duceppe’tionist” tone or will he “Layton” low?
“‘To elect or not elect?”, that is the question.”
“Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing, end them.”
As to that flushing sound I don’t think voters will object too strenuously as long as the ballots aren’t printed on toilet paper!!
    After all,

  2. I saw a commentator on Global a few moments ago who claimed that the idea of a coalition might be okay now, because Canadians have gotten used to the idea. And there are coalitions in other countries, so what’s the big deal?
Like many academics, he kind of missed the forest for the trees. A coalition itself does not anger Canadians necessarily, it’s the idea of a coalition with free spending lefties and separatists presided over by a weak PM who has to appease them.

    c’mon, kate… let’s be fair… maybe it’s simply a recurrence of
that medical issue from last year…
“Liberal handlers call in neurosurgeons as speculation
    mounts… a small stroke… early-onset Alzheimers?”

  4. Everyday it needs to be asked: Yes or No; will you seek the GG to give you a government even if the conservatives win more seats than any other party? YES OR NO, don’t let him state anything else until a YES OR NO comes from his mouth.
Until he says NO I think the conservatives have a good chance at winning more seats than they loose. IF he says YES then its a Harper majority. The longer he dodges the questions the better for CPC, videos like that will continue to be all people see.

  5. The gals standing behind him, don’t look very relaxed as the question gets asked over and over again. They also seem unsure of his answers to same, just like the rest of Canada.

  6. A coalition that would EXCLUDE THE WINNING PARTY is what angers me. The coalition in Britain, for instance, is LED BY THE WINNING PARTY, a point seemingly missed by media pundits lately.

  7. This coalition question reminds me of the ‘birth certificate’ issue down south. Regarding the coalition, the Liberal spin appears to be: “well, you must be crazy to even ask such a question”. Had StIffy been black, the coalition question would no doubt have been deemed “racist”.
The only thing that will surprise me is IF the MSM doesn’t conveniently let this coalition thingy go.

  8. I’m gobbed smacked that the coalition of leftards used parlimentary precedures via a non-confidence vote to stick it to the taxpayer. Their contempt for us is bottomless, we’re going to fund a 300 million Liberal Leadership race or an unethical coalition government. If that isn’t insulting enough they won’t even answer the coalition question, I feel nothing but contempt for the Democrats, well that’s what he called himself in said video.

  9. Biffy is a good politician. He never gave a straight answer.
Seriously though, If Harper was smart, he should debate with only ONE leader. He should answer only ONE party’s question and ignore the rest. Canadians will clearly see this as a coalition if this continues.
It would also be interesting if some foreign governments ask why we are going to the polls when the present Canadian government has kept the country the best in the world.
Is there a way we can charge them for not giving the complete cost for the gun regestary, as contempt of Paralament?

  10. Just goes to show, even a Harvard Professor can lie through this teeth. The question will be whether Canadians understand just a how real the possibility of a coalition is.
“A coalition that would EXCLUDE THE WINNING PARTY is what angers me. The coalition in Britain, for instance, is LED BY THE WINNING PARTY, a point seemingly missed by media pundits lately.” – max
    Yes, excellent point.

  11. He will not answer the question. The rats you smell are on the extreme right behind Bennett and at the back behind Mr. Iffy’s shoulder. The rest are window dressing.

  12. Iggy a Democrat since 7, from the bottom of his feet to the top of his toes.
    I believe him!

  13. The timing is impeccable. The accord signed by the opposition parties expires June 30,2011.(www.cbc.ca/news/pdf/081201_Accord_en.pdf)
    A conservative majority is coming!

  14. Max is spot on.
The British coalition involves the winning party and the party that came in second.
This important fact seems to be lost on all reporters when talking about how voters find coalitions legitimate these days.
A coalition government might very well mean the Conservatives sharing power with the Dippers.

  15. I don’t get it. Will there be — or will there not be — a Bloc/NDP/Lib coalition when the Conservatives win another minority government?

  16. I’ve never heard of a red pill. I know they sell a lot of blue ones.
Any leader would consider a coalition, it all depends what the seat count is. If they could do it without the Bloc I think they would. Even on their planet they would know they can’t afford to buy the Bloc too.
I want a Conservative majority government if only to get some da_m Bills passed.

  17. “I don’t get it. Will there be — or will there not be — a Bloc/NDP/Lib coalition when the Conservatives win another minority government?”
Mike, weren’t you listening? He made it very clear. He couldn’t possibly make it clearer. Clear as mud.

  18. The three opposition leaders are nearing the end of their political lives and they know it. They will have nothing to lose if they try to form a coalition, so the answer is OF COURSE they will do so.

  19. Harper should only agree to debate one leader – their choice – unless and until they ALL publicly repudiate and shred the Dec 08 coalition agreement that is still in effect until June 30, 2011.

  20. Flash forward to say, May 2011 in the Globe and Mail Classifieds under Help Wanted:
    – Recently Gutted Political Party seeking Leader
    – University Professors need not apply
    – Knowledge of Canadian Election History an asset
    – Resumes to Liberal Party of Canada, Ottawa

  21. Didn’t we already have a coalition government, I mean the LIEberals under DeYawn and Biffy have supported the Cons for years.
We should remind them of that, and thank them for being good back benchers of the Conservative Party of Canada. [That should get them going ….]

  22. I don’t think The Count was ready for this line of questioning. It must be shocking to him that the media is actually asking this question and not letting him off the hook. It’s even more surprising that CBC aired this. That was brutal. More please.

  23. I have my grievances with Harper but it’s pretty clear that he will make political hamburger out of Count Ignatieff.

  24. Th funny thing is the press is trying to help him and they realize after about 30 seconds – as do the people around him, that he has the political instincts of a bag of hammers.
Since journalists are pack animals, when they smell blood like they do here, they’ll pile on and rip Iggy a couple of new bungholes.
    Great start to the campaign.
“Twinkle Toes the Life Long Democrat” . . . has a nice ring to it.

  25. By their very name the Bloc Quebecois is not a Canadian party is a Quebec party … why oh why are they allowed to sit in the federal parliament?

  26. Interesting. I never thought to see this up on the CBC. A full “broadside” by the canadian media on the Liberal leader!!!

  27. “Right from the bottom of my feet to the top of my toes”
    Michael Ignatieff, March 25, 2011.
Funny even without the emphatic finger waggle.

  28. PLEASE. could there be one video with Iffy talking that doesn’t have Scooter Brison trying to get face time.
PLEASE. I’m sick of his mug. For the love of God!

  29. They have had a coalition since the last election . IGGY just doesn’t want to spoil his plans of a takeover.

  30. Speedy at March 25, 2011 6:31 PM
It’s even more surprising that CBC aired this.
It could be the new offensive: The Ceeb thinks and feels the CPC could well take a majority and they want to move to the right, er, winning side of a post election (non-minority gov’t)Canada.
Who knows we might well see more of this. Ah, Political Theater in the Spring!

  31. His democratic credentials are pretty shallow if they only cover the 2″ from the bottom of his feet to top of his toes.
I don’t watch many clips of the Count so just allow me to say Migawd, the grin.
    Majority CPC government, for sure.
Someone on another thread mentioned a possible Kim Cambell moment for the party formerly known as the natural governing party. Maybe not quite as severe, but yeah.
Rose: Your poor, poor Liberal husband. LOL.

  32. At beauty pagents they sing: Isn’t she wonderful isn’t she purdy, for some reason I look at the Demorat’s Iffy and hum that song? I don’t expect Liberal Media to report Iffy’s no longer the Liberal Leader he’s now the Domocrat’s leader, NDP or American Demorats tiss the question. If he’s so smart why does he appear so damn stupid about Canadian issues?

  33. I can see the Conservative ads now showing Iggy saying he’s a Democrat – funny, I thought that was an American party…and that proves the prior Conservative ads to be correct. Yankee go home!
