In the early 1960s, when the French airwaves were all but overrun by the lighter than air, la-la-la bubblegum-type pop sounds of the so-called yé-yé girls, a young singer named Stella, the daughter of Polish-Jewish immigrants, came along and bucked the trend by mocking the triteness of other French pop stars and by aiming her musical barbs at targets as varied as long haired young men and parents who tried to be as hip as their children. In tonight’s musical selection, from 1967, she lampoons the mindless protest culture of the era. Lyrical excerpt (translated):

I protest against those who don’t protest
Every day, I protest prolifically
I protest, year round, except for paid leave
I am the priestess of the Protest song!

Without further ado, here’s a video of Stella’s Cauchemar Auto-protestateur — roughly, “Nightmarish Knee-jerk Protester”.

  1. A former Australian politician who is running for a house seat in an upcoming election in New South Wales has some straightforward words for Muslims who are unwilling to assimilate:
“(Pauline) Hanson told Fairfax Radio Network she gets annoyed when she hears Muslims say they don’t support democracy. ‘I get annoyed when I hear an interview by a Muslim who says, `We don’t believe in democracy’ she said on Wednesday. ‘We are a democratic country and my concern is if that’s your belief in coming here to Australia, why come here?'”
It’s an interesting question. Has anyone – a public figure, a journalist – ever specifically *asked* an Islamist fundamentalist why he’s chosen to move to a Western, democratic country, as opposed to a more Islamist country?
I’m genuinely curious as to what their answer would be.

  2. Glad you enjoyed them both, syncro. When it comes to the music, I’m not sure sometimes if people will enjoy them foreign-types.
Here’s an enjoyable visual whoopsy – albeit, it’s not necessarily enjoyable to the people involved…

  3. JFK’s Peace Corps Gang Rape: ABC News Investigation Finds More Than 1,000 Rapes, Sexual Assaults Since 2000.
In some cases, victims say, the Peace Corps has ignored safety concerns and later tried to blame the women who were raped for bringing on the attacks.
“I have two daughters now and I would never ever let them join the Peace Corps,” said Adrianna Ault Nolan of New York, who was raped while serving in Haiti.

  4. With reference to a seemingly reasonable point made by Davenport on an earlier thread, this from jihadwatch (putting paid to the bogus notion that muslims have been singled out for scrutiny):
Steven Emerson: Muslim groups like CAIR, ISNA, and MAS, not Rep. King, are responsible for fomenting hysteria.
    Concludng paragraphs:
Critics have taken issue with King’s focus on one religious minority. But, in fact, in previous years, Congress has held numerous hearings into various ethnic subcultures that have spawned illegalities – including the Italian mob, Hispanic drug cartels, black and white prison gangs, white racists and neo-Nazis.
Headlines about King producing “panic” in the rank-and-file Muslim community are nonsense. The only panic is that being strategically fomented by groups with an interest in spreading fear. They, together with their mainstream media friends, have falsely alleged that: one, there is a war against Islam by the United States, and two, the FBI is secretly instigating Islamic terrorism by use of informants.
    These are dangerous fictions.

  5. Beacon
One of the untruths, or more politely, one of the curious myths about our age, is that there are no heroes. This is a conclusion I have reached through my own curious habit of asking people, sometimes, “Who are your heroes?” I think it is a good question. When I get confident answers, I learn things about a person I might otherwise have missed. Better, I may get a view into the best side of that person: the side that is aspiring, morally, upward.

  6. “This land is our land … back off government.”
    …-
    “Landowners promote land patent grants
Since it was conceived at a farmhouse kitchen table in Lanark County eight years ago, the mantra of the Ontario Landowners Association has been: “This land is our land … back off government.”
When uninvited officials came calling to impose restrictions on private property use, the mantra was backed by protests, tractor blockades and, in some cases, outright civil disobedience.
But now the OLA says the law is clearly on its side in guarding property rights thanks to formerly obscure pioneer contracts known as Crown Land Patent Grants which the association insists trump — when it comes to private property — any bylaws and regulations concocted later.
“This initiative is to be used to create a big stick in regards to all levels of government,” the Landowners insist in explaining their intense promotion of patent grants. “It’s up to the people to stand up for their rights, exercise their rights, and to instruct their elected officials as to what they will and will not accept.”
OLA members across Ontario have been applying for certified copies of their specific grants from the Ministry of Natural Resources, to the point a backlog has resulted from limited staff trying to keep up with huge demand, creating waiting times of several weeks. Many have come to believe their land patent grant is the single most important legal document they can own.
Meetings convened last week in Merrickville, Maynard and Casselman drew a total of 400 participants eager to find out more about the grants, how they can be individually certified, and how to put them to good use.
To make sure it had a clear understanding of patent grants and how they might overrule modern government regulations and bylaws pertaining to private property, OLA lead researcher Liz Marshall found out everything there is to know about the contracts … and then some.
Over the past two years, Marshall — who isn’t a lawyer — morphed into a national expert in the field, to the point lawyers are asking her for explanations and information.
Land patent grants date back centuries in many cases, to original property agreements between settlers and the Crown. Going back to the 1950s, Marshall claims the grants were deliberately “hidden” from the public, to the point most lawyers, politicians, and bureaucrats don’t know they exist, much less the powers they possess.
Those now finding out about them, she says, are fearful of the fallout which could come from hundreds of landowners turning to them for protection against thousands of laws and regulations.
The Collingwood resident has taken the land patents show on the road, travelling from town to town, mostly in Ontario but also in other provinces including Quebec, to tell landowners how patent grants work and how to apply for their own.”

    “*I. Upbringing and Childhood
Obama’s early life was decidedly chaotic and replete with traumatic and mentally bruising dislocations. Mixed-race marriages were even less common then. His parents went through a divorce when he was an infant (two years old). Obama saw his father only once again, before he died in a car accident. Then, his mother re-married and Obama had to relocate to Indonesia: a foreign land with a radically foreign culture, to be raised by a step-father. At the age of ten, he was whisked off to live with his maternal (white) grandparents. He saw his mother only intermittently in the following few years and then she vanished from his life in 1979. She died of cancer in 1995.
Pathological narcissism is a reaction to prolonged abuse and trauma in early childhood or early adolescence. The source of the abuse or trauma is immaterial: the perpetrators could be dysfunctional or absent parents, teachers, other adults, or peers.”

  9. In the wake of the NPR, er, incidents, some might enjoy this little parody by Col. Ralph Peters at Family Security Matters where FSM interviews a ficticious NPR correspondent newly arrived in Gaza about the recent NPR-Hamas merger.

FSM: “Getting down to business, which side initiated merger talks, NPR or Hamas?”
NPR: “Oh, we did!” she said promptly and proudly. “Federal funding was always a ball and chain on NPR’s freedom. We just saw a partnership with Hamas as a natural fit. We’re both struggling against oppressive capitalist neo-colonialist powers—Fox News and the IDF.”
    …
FSM: “Ms Leer-Geist, many people—even some NPR listeners—might consider Hamas a terrorist organization. Doesn’t taking their money taint you?”
NPR: “What a bigoted, right-wing, Tea-Party, god-and-guns piece of Zionist propaganda! First of all, it isn’t Hamas money at all. Hamas is only the conduit. Every cent we’re taking comes directly from Iran. By way of Syria. And Hezbollah. And Hamas. Furthermore, it’s not the source of funds, but how you use the money that determines the morality of the transaction. For example, if we were to accept funds from Tehran, then—Allah forbid!—use them to support John Boehner, that would be immoral. But if we use them to re-elect Al Franken, what could be more moral than that?”

He was tried by an Ontario Superior Court judge on accusations he misused Senate funds and pocketed expenses that were actually run up by his staff.
Lavigne has been barred from attending Senate proceedings since he was charged in 2007, though he has continued to collect his $132,300 annual salary.
He has also claimed hundreds of thousands more for travel, hospitality, office and living expenses.

  11. Wonderful Albert Jay Nock quote from the back of the Mises Institute edition of his Jefferson bio which just arrived.
    QUOTE:
Throughout his life, Mr. Jefferson consistently maintained that “the most effectual means of preventing the perversion of power into tyranny are to illuminate so far as possible the minds of the people”. He had no doubt that “if a nation expects to be ignorant and free, … it expects what never was and never will be”. He seems never to have suspected, however, the ease with which mere literacy is perverted, and that it is therefore quite possible for a literate people to be much more ignorant than an illiterate people – that a people of well-perverted literacy, indeed, is invincibly unintelligent.
    – Alberta Jay Nock (author of the mind-blowing Our Enemy the State, which I believe (?) I first encountered via maz2 here).
