The answer today: almost none (the Vancouver Sun did carry an AFP story–in their “Life” section and I suspect it was online only; the Toronto Star had a Reuters story, again I bet online only). Now why might that be? Your thoughts?

The shock of the 9/11 and 7/7 attacks began a slow questioning of this intellectual straitjacket. David Cameron’s about face on multiculturalism – he was actually attacking the somewhat more nebulous concept of “extremism’ – is belated recognition that Powell’s concerns were not wholly unwarranted. Cameron was also correct to stress cultural values as defining Britishness, rather than some trivial custom or symbol. This is something which Powell actually missed, or perhaps took for granted. Britishness is really an idea. A crude racial nationalism could never have held together the British union for so long, or built a vast and polyglot Empire. These were universal values, if often expressed in Anglo-Saxon terms.
The real victims of multiculturalism are not the old stock British (or Canadians, or Americans), but the immigrants themselves. There are few worse tortures imaginable, at least for decent and aspiring men and women, to escape from the primitive hell of much of the Third World, to reach a free and civilized land, only to be confronted with the nightmare you left. A nightmare made all the worse because officialdom regards these throwbacks not with horror, but with sympathy and support. A century ago the British were civilizing the world, today they are helping to de-civilized themselves. That is what Enoch Powell feared, and what belatedly David Cameron has realized.

Cameron’s Munich speech seems to be nothing more than a ‘Red Herring’. In other speeches he advocates that Muslims in Britain should given positions of authority within government and the Armed Forces in order to help their assimilation into British society. He seems to be trying to ride the Liberal fence.

The main subject on Lowell Green’s program this morning on cfra.com Lowell played a key portion of Cameron’s speech to the MSC and noted that he himself covered this very topic in his book Mayday! Mayday! though his emphasis is on all immigrants and none in particular. Lowell also noted the absence of MSM coverage.

What Cameron correctly stated was that state multiculturalism has failed and does not work, so those who are what I call statist do not want to hear that the state should not be involved in yet another aspect of our lives. State multiculturalism, or official multiculturalism, is the problem. It spawns a bloated bureaucracy along with a huge industry feeding off it, or rather we tax payers. Remove the state or official status from multiculturalism and you remove the problem.

According to a link I activated at the NP the city of Tarrana is studing how to make certain schools Sharia Law compliant, no I’m not kidding. They are also enacting A school that will house only poor kids, that story is being covered by The Toronto Sun. So to recap, in Multicultural Tarrana, they segregate blacks in their own schools, poor children will be learning with poor children only and the idiots want to make certain schools Sharia Law compliant, oh trust me our weaked kneed politicians aren’t going to touch multicultural policies with a ten foot pole because it would interfer with Ontario’s right to use children via the educational system as lab rats.

Surely, this action would be extremely popular in the UK, wouldn’t it? Would it be that risky, politically, to at least do this: not actually subsidize people out to destroy you.

He wasn’t mentioned in the Security Times 2011, German Times […] our special edition for the 47th Munich Security Conference [where he gave his speech] either.
Rather India, Emissions, Internet security, Military/Political relations etc The big event was the nuclear weapons treaty signed at the conference.
Doubtless, the british organ for Cameron’s policy strategy is on the case.
Whenever an issue like this comes up, I always head for the CBC website to see what the lefties are saying. I am finding more and more that even they are tired of all this and want this so called multiculti brought to a halt. This is also true for one other issue – how the justice system is soft on Aboriginals. It would seem that no matter what end of the political spectrum you are on, everyone seems to want one law for everyone (none of this Sharia stupidity or healing circles if you are an Aboriginal) and no special treatment because you are a so called minority. It’s the politicians that keep the term “minority” in play so they can feed bones to those groups to get votes. The fact that no politician has seized on the fact that there is more hay to be made now from having only one set of laws (and no more special status given to these minority groups) tells me that they are so entrenched in the status quo and can’t see passed it. I don’t have much faith in Jason Kenney as he is trying to have his cake and eat it too. He talks and talks with the muslim groups in Ontario but has he cut off muslim immigration until these same groups demand that their own integrate. Of course not, in his view that would be cutting off his nose to spite his face. Ezra Levant and Sarah Palin have it right. Don’t rely on any politician to fix our country. They are having more influence outside the political arena than if they were in it as elected officials. Canadian Tea Party is what it will take to get the change we want.

KevinB, I think you are misinterpreting some of the comments which are not optimistic concerning the situation. They are not anti-Cameron, for no matter what he tries to do to change course, it is almost impossible at this stage of the game, especially as a minority government. The UK is so far along on the road of national suicide that I fear it is too little and too late.
While I appreciate what you’re saying, Alain, I think it’s appropriate that we view Cameron’s remarks in light of Ronnie Reagan’s 100th birthday rememberance. Being an old fogey who was actually sentient during the 70’s, I remember full well all the intelligentsia telling us the Soviet Union was a fact of life, that it was going to be there forever, and that the only strategy that made sense was detente and a “live and let live” approach. When Reagan ran for the nomination in 76, he said that Communism had to be defeated, a stance he maintained and repeated throughout his successful campaigns for the 80’s nomination and presidency.
If you weren’t alive then, you can’t appreciate how big the backlash, the sneers, and the denigration were; it was positively Palin-esque. Reagan was routinely castigated as “senile”, a “washed up old actor”, “unintelligent”, “uninformed”, “disengaged”, “naive”, and of course, all the irrelevant and snarky references to “Bedtime for Bonzo”. Only marginally kinder were the pundits who said he was a nice man, but one who was living in the past, dreaming of Westerns, and winning one for the Gipper.
But, as we learned, it only took one truly determined leader to turn the tide of history. Less than a dozen years after Reagan’s election, the Berlin Wall was history, and Eastern Europe was liberated, putting paid to all the liberal brainiacs who told us the Soviet Empire was invincible. It only takes one man.
Now, Reagan had the advantages of an executive presidency, a landslide win, and an acquiescent Congress, whereas Cameron didn’t win a majority and operates within a Parliamentary system. But the fact remains: a truly determined leader leads, not follows, his people. I don’t know enough about Cameron to say whether he has the royal jelly or not, but I’m not prepared, on his latest remarks, to write him and Britain off, as so many seem prepared to do.
The speech was made in Munich, to please Merkel by taking her line – Cameron did used to be a shallow PR man, after all. Over here Cameron doesn’t want to risk losing ANY Muslim votes. Nothing will change.
