Let’s get to the really important news right off the top: A Democrat and a Republican in Washington State are sponsoring a bill that would require all hair designers to be licensed.

Thanks.
Totally irrelevant.
Love Kate.
The rest of you, get a grip.

EBD, hairstylist, which I think is about the same thing that’s about to be regulated in Washington, is already one of the closed apprenticeship areas in some areas of Canada. It’s considered “closed” in that one must take some type of educational program before entering the trade, largely because of some of the chemicals used on their cliental can be harmful if not applied correctly.
I think folks here used to start in the biz by washing hair, but they couldn’t really do more than that.
Here’s what the Gov of Sask. has to say on the matter, click the first pdf at “Trade Information” it’s a quick read.

although I note in the USA legislation, they’ve gone on to include quite a comprehensive list of what may be considered a “hair stylist”. It’s become almost a federal case… and it isn’t like they’ve settled their jobless / mortgage problem.
Omitted news –
“Left wing climate of hate and assassination”
http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2011/01/left_wing_climate_of_hate_and.html
In September 2010 Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon was scheduled to speak at Penn….wearing black clothes and a bullet-proof vest, 22 year-old Casey Brezik bolted out of a classroom, knife in hand, and slashed the throat of a dean. As he would later admit, he confused the dean with Nixon.
…..Brezik seems to have inhaled just about every noxious vapor in the left-wing miasma: environmental extremism, radical Islam, anti-capitalism, anti-Zionism and Christophobia….
– One wanders why.
Thanks EBD, Louis is the best.
The importance of haircuts.
Best cut something.
Ah, I see you did run into my cousin, intifitysquared. I’m surprised she hangs around in bars. Be warned, Sven (or Bjorn or whatever his name is) is quite athletic.
And so the narrative goes: A 78-year-old woman is recieving death threats (so she claims)! Because of Glenn Beck!
That would be Frances Fox Piven. How dare he talk about her? asks the New York Times. After all, quoting a lefty accurately is basically just an incitement to murder.

∞² … although it is good to see you’ve upgraded from that AMC Gremlin. 😉
Black Mamba – I left out the last bit.
Further to Black Mamba’s post:
No one should be issuing death threats against another.
As to Ms. Piven, I just took the time to find and read this. It seems pretty darn clear that Piven and her husband devised a strategy intended to overwhelm and possibly bring down the government of the day.
Why does no one on the Left feel compunction to hold her accountable for her destructive ideas and attempts to wreak havoc on millions of people? Oh wait, I remember, because if you’re a Leftist then there’s never a need to apologize. No need for Piven to do this, no need for Bill Ayers to apologize, no need for Jane Fonda to apologize, etc., etc., etc. Just do whatever you want to do and then move on.
Accountability Zero.
Robert – certainly nobody should be issuing death threats, although it’s worth noting that any public figure who’s at all controversial tends to get them. But now, whenever a leftist individual or idea is criticized, we’re going to hear “Climate of Hate!” “Incitement!” “Blood on Hands!” etc. That’s their strategy and they’ll be sticking to it.
Further to Robert’s comment, look what I just found via BlazingCatFur:

From pkuster’s link;
Just because an idea is true doesn’t mean it can be proved. And just because an idea can be proved doesn’t mean it’s true. When the experiments are done, we still have to choose what to believe.
Isn’t vanity wonderful? We can prove we can’t prove anything. Reeds in the wind bending to the next Big Idea…
You know that guy, Congressman Peter King (R-NY), who’s had it up to here and ain’t gonna take it any more from islamists bent on destroying American from within, well, forget it.
Why does no one on the Left feel compunction to hold her accountable for her destructive ideas and attempts to wreak havoc on millions of people?

My fellow Lotus-lander! I do so look forward to a time when you don’t ask such silly questions.

Bingo. Consider — within 1-2 hours on the very day of the AZ massacre — the sudden emergence of this “heated rhetoric” meme! As Beck sez, this was pre-scripted. At the risk of sounding like a conspiracy monger, this is a orchestrated campaign worthy of the finest Marxist propaganda.
And consider that gun control was a very subordinate issue this time out. Usually it’s the primary knee-jerk response.
Beck gave us a quite lovely analogy. Ever notice how within MINUTES of the death of an older celebrity the MSM full-obit tributes are out there. Pre-written, all set to go, of course.
Finally, is there any event more predictable than the mad-loner killing of a few people in a school, mall, or public square? Why, it’s as American as Apple Pie.
Muslim Moderates?
Like many of us on these blogs I have almost come to despair of ever finding that rarest of all things, the Muslim Moderate. You know, the one people tell you about when they assure you that all Muslims are not terrorists.
Well, I think I found one and his book is well worth the read. The author is a Palistinian doctor who worked and practiced in Israel. Considering what he has been through he is indeed moderate.
I went into the book just looking to find the anti Israel slant but all I could find were pretty minor things. For example, Gaza from 1949 to 1967 was described as being “under Egyptian Administration” while post 1967 it was described as “under Israeli occupation”. Many references to the Israeli blockade of Gaza but only one mention of the Egyptian blockade. Pretty small stuff.
I am and always have been a supporter of Israel but I have to admit there were things in the book that made me squirm a bit. Have a look at;

Me No Dhimmi – “And consider that gun control was a very subordinate issue this time out. Usually it’s the primary knee-jerk response.”
You know, I’d been vaguely wondering why that was. Your explanation makes sense: They had bigger fish to fry with this story.

PowerLine: The Left’s Tucson Strategy: Stage Two.
From a personal POV, what really shocked me was getting an e-mail of Michael Moore tweets the very day of the AZ massacre, from a good friend who is an old-style “compassionate” liberal, who is definitely not a member of the loony-left hate brigade.
Simpson has written another hit piece at the Mop and Pail, regarding the Conservative ads…
gutter politics, he calls it.
What land if unicorns and rainbows is he from anyways? Did he just wake up in fairyland?
I don’t understand this utter hatred and intolerance from the left side of the spectrum. Their M.O. seems to be “anything goes”, and everything should be alowed, as long as you are a leftarded socialist
You know how a few years ago there used to be a thing where Moral Majority type conservatives used to try to ban lewdness and swearing on TV, and libertarian-tending people would say “so, you think all public discourse and entertainment should be designed for children? Give me a break.”
Well, now elements of the left, in which I broadly include the MSM, have suddenly decided that political debate needs to be geared primarily towards not upsetting violent psychotics who are off their meds. And, given that what upsets such people is essentially random, but might have something to do with “atmosphere”, well…
No. Mervyn Griffith-Jones (with a name like that, you expected cool?) had a point. Very arguable, and personally I wouldn’t have been on his side; but a point nontheless.
The people who blamed Palin for Loughner didn’t have the decency to come out with “Is this a broadcast that you would even wish your hillbillies or your mental patients to watch?” They are censors who don’t even have the decency to admit to being censors.

There is probably nothing more destructive of a civilized society than the notion that some people have the “right” to the products of the efforts of others, whether it be welfare, housing, education, health care, or whatever. The Cloward-Piven strategy demonstrates this in an extreme form.
As for Piven, she obviously can’t take the heat; she should have stayed out of the kitchen. (literal death threats go too far though)
naughtypine, that ‘poll’ does not work. If you look at the results first, then go vote, the resulting total number votes stays exactly the same.
