When they can accurately predict short term local weather with a small margin of error I may pay attention to these ridiculously incomplete climate model projections. Until that time, this is just so much tenure for unemployable science wonks to play computer games.

Actually the funding for Environment has not increased very much, if at all. Lots of warming research wannabes hit the bricks when the grants ran out. They complain they can’t talk to the press without permission as all Fed researchers must do.

It takes a pretty big leap of faith to believe a CPC majority would actually be better. After the Income Trust fiasco and the GM bailout, there’s not way I’d vote for them, barring campaigning on zero taxes and instituting the 6th, 8th, and 9th commandments as the only laws on the books (although I guess the 8th commandment would pretty much rule out taxes anyway). You can’t think the Government can change the civil service that much. The attitude in the civil service is they face elections and defeat and we just go on ’till we retire.
The mandarins can slow things to a crawl if they wish, they can cut things damaging to the government. They rarely speak out, that can be very career limiting even depending on how much power your rabbi has. You become a danger to the next government too.
Delicate game when what you want to do conflicts with what the civil service wants. How many Conservatives in Ottawa and about 400,000 bodies to move.
