He makes a lot of sense. There was some criticism of the military for not awarding more medals. Circumstances made him the first. He realizes he is separate from the unit he depends on and thrust into a world foreign to him. Being a guy that jumps out of airplanes to get shot at to a media item doesn’t make him less deserving though.

And i by no means was crediting the camera work or any part the journalist or MSM had done just his story and what he and his brothers in arms went through ..i suppose a little credt is due to the journalist and the guy holding the camera who captured the story .
But it will be a long long long long time before i ever give full credit to anyone in the main stream media as they are so far in my bad books it will take sun t.v. and the privatization of the cbc to change my opinion of the msm.

It’s a compelling story and apparently even the MSM wasn’t able to ruin it. Remember we’re not progressives, where the messenger (regardless of the message) must always be incorrect if they don’t follow our political views. No one here thinks the MSM is ALWAYS wrong.
I saw ‘Restrepo’ recently. It’s not violent, but is very dramatic. I highly recommend it to everyone else!

Sure, though this blog, like many others, devotes almost all of its MSM-related energy to sussing out those times they are being foolish (usually defined here as any grammatical oversight, factual error, or “news reports or punditry we disagree with”). And as for applauding them when they “occasionally get it right,” “right” is invariably defined subjectively as “news reports or punditry we agree with” rather than “news reports that get the facts correct.”

Sure, not “always,” though considering that most blog posts here and elsewhere link back ultimately to a story produced by the MSM, I’d argue that the MSM is “right” far more often than they’re given credit for.

Like every time a soldier dies yes i want to know but i also want to know how many of our eneemies we have killed as well i also want to here about the progress being made in the countries we have liberated like iraq and afaganistan i wouldl ike to here about some heroic story here or there or a heart warming story of say a soldier doing some good work on his own over there maybe making friends with locals to show people around the world that not all iranians or iraqis or afanistan or pakistani or hate america and hate americas present’s there .
There are so many paople that are so happy to have america there and are scared for when they leave that is what i want to see once in awhile
but the only place i get to see those stories is right here on sda or on the web somewhere the main stream media will not ever conceed that canada and it’s allies are doing a good job overthere it bothers them to much to see that half way around the world people like our military and our presence there they sleep well at night knowing that a soldier is protecting them from there own people!! and yes there own religion to!!!
Davenport. How much talent did it take to point the friggin camera. Hear any questions? See any fancy cinematography? You saw a guy sitting in front of a camera telling a story. Could have been a fire, a cave and guys in loincloths and it would still be a guy tellling his story.
To think it would take 4 years to do what a tripod could do is fuzzy logic at best.
Saw an interesting story on the BBC about Christians packing up their meagre belongings and fleeing back to the south of Sudan from Khartoum. They fear what will happen when the country is divided into North and South with sharia law totally in charge in the north.
Of course this is a typical MSM story which is years too late and we are supposed to feel guilty because the situation there is about to get even more horrible.
For sure none of the pacifist European countries or anybody else is going to send troops there to help out.
Restrepo was excellent … gripping, compelling and very un-Hollywood. It felt real because it was real. Great journalism that we just don’t see enough of these days but good to know its still ‘alive and well’.
Just as interesting as seeing the soldiers was seeing the Afghans they had to deal with, and how those people live in such brutally primitive conditions.
Of course the CBC review said the doc was ‘powerful but largely unsatisfying’… something about how it didn’t include the ‘contentious issues’ concerning the over-all mission. What twits!

Davenport, A Few Figs has shown a perfect example of how when some from the MSM do get things right, the rest of the MSM dumps all over them for the unspeakable offense of getting it right. On the other hand, when the MSM get it wrong, they fawn all over each other for doing so (re: the earlier SDA item about CTV’s Question Period). ‘Alienated’ summed it up perfectly when he likened the so called journalists to monkeys grooming each other.
To argue that MSM is right more often than they get credit for is still a very low standard to expect. If 10% person of everything a person said was a lie, would you argue that it is unfair to call him a liar, because most of the time he makes truthful statements?
