The Big Two-O

You are Sitemeter visitor number…

With the year winding down, this seems a very good time to thank you all – readers, tipsters, guest bloggers, and sponsors – for helping make SDA the success it has become!
Update! And here’s our visitor number 20,000,000.
2million.jpg
Note: I use the Sitemeter count to mark SDA traffic milestones because it’s the public counter displayed on the blog. However, it’s not as accurate as the internal logs. For example, while Sitemeter shows 4,302,538 visits to the site since January 1st, internal logs indicates 4,596,908 “viewed traffic” (omitting robots, etc.). This evening there were as many as 8 visits per second coming into the blog.

  1. I believe that Kate’s wit, tenacity, toughness, and hard work – just the sheer force of her character – has had an real impact on the politics and culture in this country.
A strong, courageous Canadian woman who is despised by all the wrong people – what more could you ask for?
Congratulations on the upcoming milestone, Kate!

  2. Alex – From what few specifics you’ve provided, it’s difficult to pinpoint what you consider the proper explanation of speciation and the origin of life on Earth.
Please provide your explanation of the origin of species , with specifics, ie does the fact that DNA is the carrier of heredity in the present day mean that heredity has for most of the time life has existed on earth been carried on DNA? Do the statistical constaints of DNA based heredity require us to modify Darwin’s theory? You seem to not believe in creation as the origin of species/life: Do you therefore believe random mutation in DNA explains speciation? It would help to have an actual discussion on these topics, with specificity, rather than just a shouting match.

Heh…you left something out…she’s not hard on the eyes either.
An intellectually brilliant woman who is also extremely attractive..stealing from that commercial…priceless…

  4. Kate, EBD, Vίt and all the other contributors: You have enriched my life with your balanced and witty contributions, causing me to think…then think some more.
It is great to have a brain stretch and then see how the trolls flap, squawk and sputter through the mental gymnastics like contortionists from a Chinese circus. The entertainment value is priceless.
Keep the lights on at the ranch, sometimes it is the only thing keeping the lost from dying out on the bald prairie!

  5. Way to go Alex, instead of defending yourself, you go off on a tangent.
Remember, you are the one in uncharted territory here, making accusations, without any merit or (valid) arguments of any kind. Most people here will gladly engage in a healthy, fact-based debate. But, as usual, when confronted or asked to back up your sentiments, you go off on tangents, much like beegle, mouthy, and the other trolls, who offer nothing but malfeasance.
Stay if you want, at your own denigration, but feel free to debate, let alone respond intelligently to debate. Mentioning Adam and velociraptor just proves that you have….Jumped the Shark!

  6. ron in kelowna –
Mark Steyn, at steynonline, is tremendous.
With all due respect to ET, you have to be careful with National Review – Thomas Sowell is consistently great, speaking the truth about the problems liberalism has caused, and offering effective solutions. David Kahane exactly nails liberals, and does not pretend that liberals in general are just a bunch of well-intentioned former choir boys whose actions somehow descend now and then to a form of organized crime.
A lot of the house talent at NR, though, seems to harbor aspirations to join the ruling class, and their writing reflects it. Kevin Williamson’s columns, for instance, read like he wants to be a staff economist for the CBO; you rarely get anything but the conventional Republican Beltway wisdom from him: reach across the aisle to the liberals, blah, blah, blah. The same could be said of Rich Lowry, Jim Geraghty: they play the game, and seem to think that if they watch their p’s and q’s the liberal media establishment will eventually accept them as one of their own.
One site you have to add to your list is rushlimbaugh.com – he has a gimlet eye.
Lastly, Sarah Palin on Facebook – she is a rarity among politicians; she is utterly fearless and tells the truth, which is the reason liberals loathe and hate her more than all other conservatives, combined.
If you only have time to go to one, though, SDA is it.

  7. Could I please meet you in Vanscoy to help correct a historical wrong?
    Timing is up to you.

  8. Ward:
I want to accomodate your query, but have no idea of what you are referring to (excuse me for ending a sentence with a preposition).
Given that we are not even at 9:00 yet, I cannot find the comment of Bacardi@9:42.
Please elaborate if you are able.

  9. Congrats Kate. Cant remember when I first found this site, but it was a long time ago. Never got sick of it, always stop by.

  10. Thanks, Ken (Kulak), for putting it in a nutshell: Go Kate, you speak for freedom.
To properly use a phrase that is almost universally misused: SDA is a genuine
    – a distinguished – public service.
    Thank you, Kate.

“despised by all the wrong people”
I would say despised by all the *right* people. 🙂
    Congrats, Kate.

  12. Admirable job Kate. You must work like a non-beagle dog to keep the site engaging and interesting.

  13. small c conservative – I don’t go to a site to swallow all the commentary; I reserve the necessity and right to think and analyze for myself.
Therefore, I go to National Review because the commentaries are, for the most part, based on an analysis of facts, and use logic in that analysis. Now – I might consider that the facts were ‘selective’ and the conclusions slanted but at least I get a variety.
At the leftist blogs – and Alex is quite incorrect in trying to deny the valid use of the term – one finds complete homogeneity. They are usually all just opinions. No data base. No logic. The comments to the opinion pieces are all just short ‘cheers’. Rather like an Obama staged meeting. All air and no content.
So – I go to a variety of sites, but I do like Pajamas Media and National Review.

Now that you’ve brought this up, I admit to having being totally mesmerized by the woman — that portrait tucked up into the top left corner when I first got here (c. 2004, sent by Steyn). It’s interesting that she took that down and replaced it, for a while, with a not-very-stimulating nude (chuckle). I’m guessing I wasn’t the only one and that she may have got a bit tired of fending off the droolers.
All men here in favour of a brief reprise of that pic, say aye!

  15. There should be a special thanks from Kate SDA to all the regular TROLLS that have dramatically increased her hit count over the years aiding to her great success.
I thank all the trolls for helping us air personal opinions that would never otherwise be aired – at their expense.
So Thank you Trolls, never get so upset that you leave for good; your unwitting services are valuable beyond your comprehension.

  16. Kate, thank you for the blog and all the work that goes into it. You’ve provided an enclave of sanity for myself and friends of mine who, as current or recent university attendees, must no longer ask “…is it just me?”
Seems like most people who frequent the blog are older and have already made it in the world of work; you do, however, have your fans amongst Canada’s fickle and unkempt youth. 😉
All the best, and again I thank you.

  17. I guess my question to clowns like “beagle” and elites like “Alex” is this. Unless you read SDA on a regular basis how do you know it is boring etc. If I find a blog boring I don’t bother to go back.
Or, if you found it boring the first time you read it perhaps you just come back occasionally to see if it is still boring.
And, if you find it boring, but still come here regularily expecting it to not be boring any longer. To me that is an indication of a mental deficiency- i.e. doing the same thing over and over again expecting the results to be different.
Then again, on the other hand, who cares what you think. 19,999,998 others don’t agree with you.

  18. Ever since I found you, what, 3 years ago, you have been a daily stop. Love all your links, news, discussion etc.
Many thanks for a very informative, thought provoking and interesting site. It must be a tremendous amount of work and I thank you.
    Happy New Year Kate!

  19. Congratulations, Kate, from Baja Canada. You do an amazing job. There’s always something interesting on your site.

  20. While troll-baiting is great sport, it pales to the substance of many of the topics Kate manages to ferret out of the aether. I first stumbled on Kate’s blog in 2003; we flipped a couple of emails about her art, and something about school run by Catholic nuns, which was humorous then, and conceptually, a riot now. Congrats, Ms. Catharine, and a huge huzahh for sticking it out. I still don’t know how you found the time, but you have my unwaivering affection for doing so.

  21. You’re the best, Kate!
SDA- a perfect way to start and end one’s day….with a few fixes in between.
Less than two years ago we were waiting for the sitemeter to click on 10M. Phenomenal!!
    Congrats and Happy New Year.

  22. Congrats 8 visits late Kate!!
    LOL
Well done on a site I can always count on to bring someting to light to raise my BP each day…..

  23. Oh crap!!!!
    I missed it by 8.
I was desperately hoping to collect my prize in Vanscoy!
Oh well, I’m sure that 3,000,000 is not far away.

  24. Ya got it Kate! Congrats!
Do some of us a favour, in accordance with no dhimmi’s comment, and put that portrait back up for a day or two.
No disrespect intended…it is meant in good fun…

  25. There’s only one 20,000,000 and I’ve posted the screenshot. Sitemeter only counts your ip once very 100 visits, so if you were refreshing, you saw it record else’s visit, not yours. My apologies for wording the post the way I did.

  26. 20,000,022!
Thanks for the good times Kate!
I can’t remember when I first started reading and commenting on SDA. I think it was in 2005 sometime.
Anyway it’s been a slice and has entertained for many hours, venting, learning, and trashing liberal trolls into crying themselves to sleep at night. The last is the best part for me.
