“Sook-Yin Lee sucks”

And divers other manifestations of reasons for

The accelerating decline of Mother Corpse, radio version

Host Sook-Yin Lee achieved a truly great moment in postmodern irony. She asked some nice old black guy she was interviewing whether he considered her a lady. He replied that he certainly did unless evidence otherwise came to his attention, for instance that a woman was, say, truly sexually loose. Ms Lee ragged him about this for some time (what a hoot) knowing full well that the fellow did not know this: “Sook-Yin Lee Funny Porn Movie Shortbus”…

  1. I have no idea what this post is about … can someone please explain it to me. Who is Sook Lee and what is the reference to porn?
I am serious. I do not understand these references.

  2. I remember her on much music interviewing pop stars. I specifically remember her being absolutely terrible. My first thought was…how was she hired in television….a retard could interview better. She must have said “uuummm” a thousand times.
Some PC hiring I am sure, but I know a lot of Korean (or whatever she is) people who are a hell of a lot smarter than this skank.

  3. Yah, I miss Basic Black, too.
Abe, she’s worked at the CBC for years. Take that for what it’s worth.
She’s not nearly as snotty as her predecessor on Definitely Not the Opera, Nora Young. That woman just reeked with snobbery.

  4. *
on cbc’s “the national” tonight… they prefaced a story
about british columbia rainfall… by dramatically
announcing it was “of biblical proportions”.
i’m an atheist… and even i know that whatever’s going on out
west… it has nothing to do with this manipulative hyperbole.
    i miss the news.

  5. I used to listen to CBC a lot. Mostly because it was the only radio station I could get in the Ottawa valley. To add insult to injury, on the regular drive from Petawawa to Toronto there was a stretch of road where the only station that came in was French language CBC. I stuck with it for a while after moving to TO because commercial radio, having to pay bills and all had so much advertising it drove me nuts. After a while Andy Barry’s non stop hard core leftardation got so bad I couldn’t stand it, and I moved on. I haven’t been back since.

  6. Sook-Yin Lee………Canada’s Yoko Ono….
    ACK!
She was awful at MM, very boring and droll, but she thought she was ‘nouveau and artsy cool;.
Should have recognized those qualities as a perfect Ceeb parasite

  7. The only thing worse than the CBC as it exists right now is the CBC under a Liberal government. I have always hated the CBC since I was a small child and my parents listed to “boring news” on 540 whenever we were in the car.
Now I realize that my instincts were correct and although it probably wasn’t “news” my parents were listening to, it sucked none the less.
I can’t wait until it is gone so I can dance on its grave.

  8. It has been raining in BC. Nothing new for anyone who grew up here. No arks being built that I know of.
CBC has radio? Who’d have thunk it. I suppose they had to have somewhere for people not quite good looking enough* for TV.
    *PC for ugly.

  9. Jian Ghomeshi….Sook-Yin Lee
Can’t listen to either one, makes my head hurt, I get a rash, want to slash myself, ………

  10. Many times when the blithering intelligentsia is babbling about the fate of the CBC, somebody will say something about how popular CBC radio is and how nobody has any problems with it. I always wonder how many people actually know it’s there. I bet you could stop ten people on the street and not find somebody who could name a CBC radio program. (Don’t try this on Yonge Street….)

  11. We here in Southern B.C. are blessed with Marion Barschle on CBC’s early morning radio, which I listened to at my wife’s request. She’s a fan of CBC radio,I’m not.
How the lady attained this undoubtedly high-paid position,I’ll probably never know. After listening to ONE morning show, I found it to be so irritating and amateurish,I just HAD to listen to a few more shows to see if maybe she’d had a bad day, as we all do once in a while.
Nope. Every show was reminiscent of two old hippies making organic cookies together in a kitchen and chatting about nothing in particular. Interviews were even worse, the “expert” was always from a left wing organization, such as the David Suzuki Foundation.
CBC is a haven for a clique of modestly talented and untalented performers who lucked out and were hired by the Mother Corporation more for their political views, Left left left, than for their ability.
Friends of Canadian Broadcasting’s Ian Morrison sends out Newsletters reminding us that CBC
is the glue that holds together the “fabric of the Nation” or some such metaphoric nonsense.
All I hear is badly done reporting and interviewing with a decidedly anti-Stephen Harper slant, and an insufferable smugness on the part of all the personnel on the airwaves as they rant to the “progressive” choir.
If CBC can’t be self-sustaining, sell it off, taxpayers don’t owe a bunch of of left-wing no talents a living, especially one that is 39% higher than the average Canadian taxpayer earns.

  12. In the interests of science and research,I downloaded Sook-Yi’s movie, and as Kate says above,”she sucks”,and a lot more too!
I watched the first six minutes, then shut it down, Sook-yin has some talent, and I have to wonder if the career with CBC began as a result of the same kind of activities in which she indulged in “Shortbus”.
btw,I DON’T recommend the movie to SDA regulars. Strong DISGUST warning!

  13. dmorris writes, “How the lady attained this undoubtedly high-paid position,I’ll probably never know” and I thought he was referring to Carol Off!
Apparently the CBC has two of these thingies.
Obnoxious, ignorant, irritating, and given scads of air time.
I wonder what the CBC in Toronto keeps in its cellars?

  14. Once upon a time, several years ago, CBC Radio2 was a bit of an island of sanity inside the CBC circus. It is no longer.
I have no idea what a Sook-Yin Lee is and, judging from the other comments, I’m not missing anything.
Time to pull the plug on the whole thing.

  15. A Ceeb announcerette is in a -Canadian- porn movie and she expects some poor guy in New Orleans to know this?
How many people saw Shortbus? Two, three hundred tops?
