  1. Okay, Vitruvius, the last time this happened I asked you how you manage to have your comment already in place when the Reader Tips post first appears on the page. You explained “ancient Chinese secret.”
Tonight’s question (your comment is time-stamped four minutes before the post appeared) is “why?”, as in, for what purpose?
    Help me to understand…

  2. Why comment? Well, it varies, EBD. In this case it’s ’cause I’d like to see the world’s three finest basso profundi get a little more exposure. Also, I heard that commenting in these, how do you call them, blogs, is the trendy, fashionable thing to do. In general, though, I comment because Life is an S D A, old chum. After all, there’s no use permitting / some prophet of doom / to wipe every smile away. So I try to help remind folks how beautiful life is, how soaring, how tranquil. And then one’s dead, anyway, so one may as well enjoy it while one can.

As Miss Parton sang in Coat of Many Colors:

They didn’t understand it and I tried to make them see,
That one is only poor only if they choose to be.
Now I know we had no money but I was rich as I could be,
In my coat of many colors that Momma made for me.

(For the record, I did nothing special at SDA in respect of my first
comment tonight. I simply went to the main page, saw that Reader
Tips was up, picked its Comments link, and posted my comment.)

  3. Dolly Parton grew up just as rough as The Coal Miner’s daughter Linda…
    Know your Nashville people…

  4. On the local all-Christmas-songs radio channel I heard absolutely the worst Christmas carol today, a pop version of Hark! the Herald Angels Sing. These are the sublime lyrics that were trashed:
    Hark! the Herald Angels sing,
    Glory to the new-born King,
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
    God and sinner reconcil’d.
    Chorus
    Hark! the Herald Angels sing,
    Glory to the new-born King.
    Joyful all ye nations rise,
Join the triumph of the skies,
    With the angelic host proclaim,
    Christ is born in Bethlehem.
    Chorus
    Christ by highest Heaven ador’d,
    Christ the everlasting Lord!
Late in time behold him come,
    Offspring of a Virgin’s womb.
    Chorus
Hail the Heaven-born Prince of Peace!
    Hail the Sun of righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
Risen with healing in his wings.
    Chorus
Mild he lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die,
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.
    Chorus

  5. EBD I think it is just because Vίt can. No profound reason, just to be a little mischievous. Then again what do I know. The thing that I wonder though is do Tibetan monks hit notes that low?

  6. Well I do know a thing or 2 about IT and I offered to send a ‘botnet after after him,
Kate just has to pull the trigger……

  7. It’s next to impossible to find Christmas cards featuring the Nativity now, thanks to the Chinafication of Canada.

  8. chutzpahticular :
    then make your own cards.

The next great Crusade is around the corner.

As someone licensed to practice medicine in Papua New Guinea it is my professional opinion that you have a case of testosterone poisoning. I suggest that you install slightly smaller babe magnets on the trailer hitch of your Ford Tempo; what you’ll lose in “pep” will be more than offset by your newfound ability to sit through Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood without falling asleep.
As for the diarrhea, puking, stomach aches, and cramping muscles, those symptoms were caused by having to sit through a chick flick when you had too much testosterone in your system.

  10. Eskimo at December 4, 2010 11:13 PM, thanks for that. It had me chuckling for an inappropriate amount of time.

  11. eskimo- your Y tube link got overloaded or trolled.
I like maclean and meclean though, I’ll catch it when the troll moves on.

  12. “At least twelve people stoned and/or macheted to death in Haiti for using witchcraft to spread cholera”
..and to think, the party of Pierre Trudeau ( and his demonic siblings..) would have you believe that all cultures are equal…

  13. Hey Vίt, you know why some of the people who can see into the future don’t bother to tell people everything about it?
Because the people then also expect them to be able to fix the unfixable and to wipe every frown away.

  14. University Terror
When this story popped up last weekend (thanks to Linda), the omissions and lack of details were glaring. Apparently authorities thwarted a plot by a “Dearborn man” who posted a threat detailing violent acts he planned to commit Wednesday on Wayne State University campus.

  18. If you’re further interested in making your own Nativity cards for Christmas, Chutzpahticular, you can find some excellent artwork by going to Google, picking the Images link, and then searching for things like Christmas creche, which produces results like this one from the Saint Louis Fraternity.

  19. Re Dolly Parton, whose singing I avoid whenever possible.
I remember she said her grandfather was a Pentecostal minister and growing up she admired the town’s loose lady with the full-blown style that caused men to leer and the good women of the town to pull the curtains.
Then and there she decided she wanted to pattern herself after that woman. She did and became wealthy and famous: A lesson to all young girls everywhere.

  20. It’s not just the Chinafication of Christmas/cards, etc., it’s our “multicultural” society, which has more or less dictated that “Christmas” can’t be about the Christ-mass that it is, in fact, all about.
Case in point: Years ago a friend of mine sent a Christmas card showing a stained glass window of Jesus as shepherd, holding a lamb in his arms. I really liked it and asked her where she had got it, because I was thinking of sending it the next year.
She said I wouldn’t be able to purchase it next year because she had bought it at the Sick Children’s Hospital gift shop and they had made a policy decision not to sell this particular card the next year (even though it was of the stained glass window in their own chapel), because of all of the non-Christian (read: Muslim) people coming in and out of the hospital.
She was correct. The next year, all you could buy for a “Christmas” card were cards with Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus, and winter scenes.
That was about 15 years ago. You see, “multicultural” doesn’t include Christianity; it’s a beard for getting rid of Christianity in the public square. “Multiculturalism” is a pseudonym for every culture/faith except Christianity.
I noticed this morning that at Queen’s Park, there’s a giant menorah which is partially lit for Chanukah, with a big “Happy Chanukah!” sign underneath. While I have no problem with our provincial parliament wishing our Jewish friends a Happy Chanukah, I’m wondering where the giant Advent Wreath is, with two candles lit, as this is the second week of the Advent Season. I’m also wondering if there will be a giant Nativity Scene at Queen’s Park during the 12 days of Christmas.
I somehow doubt it. I’m thinking I’ll have to write to my MPP about this. I’m wondering if I’ll hear back from him …

  21. batb, I doubt that you will be seeing either the Nativity Scene or get a reply from your MPP, as it is all about brown nosing the religion of peace now don’t you know.

  22. today in christian history, (to balance the negativity heaped on muslims):
    Dec 5 1484
Innocent VIII orders an Inquisition to uncover and execute witches in Europe. Witchcraft becomes a heresy, and over the next three centuries 200,000 accused witches die under most unpleasant circumstances.

  23. At the siege of Vienna in 1683 Islam seemed poised to overrun Christian Europe. We are in a new phase of a very old war.

  24. Look beagle, when witches start hijacking planes I’ll demand they be subject to extra security measures too. It’s just sense.
    (200,000? I doubt it.)

  25. The point that ol beag there intentionally chooses to miss, is that he is talking about Christianity treating women like objects and property 500 years ago.
We are talking about another religion doing that today.
Both were around at the time. One choose to progress, the other to regress.

  26. We are talking about another religion doing that today.
Both were around at the time.”
christianity in earnest about 1200 years, islam about 700.
now islam has been here about 1200 years (given the 3 century span) and lookit lookit. same behaviour. what does that tell you about religion?

  27. @beagle
What does hundreds of millions of “enemies of the state” murdered by Lenin, Stalin, Mao… etc tell you about atheists?

  28. “…same bahaviour…”
No. The closest you could get spanning two Millennia would be some of the atrocities committed during the Crusades (the Muslims committed atrocities too though plus they started it).
And at least Guy de Lusignan didn’t enslave his women and dress them up in Hallowe’en ghost costumes and suicide-bomb camel trains.

  29. Wow beagle, really?
Your arguement for Islam treating women like cattle in the 21st century is that Christianity did it when it was 1200 years old?
How is it that every major religion across the planet has had the opportunity to look at a calendar but one?
It says something very telling about the left and their absolute loathing of anything Christian that they are left trying to defend the indefensible.
I am one of the regular readers here that is both conservative and an atheist, and I have a whole grocery list of things I have a problem with when it comes to organized religion, but being able to see the forest for the trees. I can understand the importance that the Judeo-Christian value systems have had on our civilization. I understand it is the very bedrock of our civilization.
    How did you miss that?
