  1. I’m hoping the Roughies realize the key to winning is sacking Calvillo hard and often. Something that obviously escaped the limited capabilities of Calgary’s coaching staff.
    Go Big Green!

  2. Defense dominated so far. Sorry Kate, cheering for Montreal and AC out here in Vancouver.
Went to the Lions home opener, which Saskatchewan won, AND their fans outnumbered our fans in our home park. I figure Sask has enough fans if they can more than half fill Empire Stadium.

  3. Well…. I guess, thats one way to lose a game. OUCH.
    Sorry Kate, maybe next year.
    Stamps fan

  4. Bit of a heartbreaker, but on the other hand the game was closer on the scoreboard than it was on the field. Saskatchewan did well to make a game of it.

  5. Hey – we lost but not by a stupid penalty. Al’s were the better team this day. I can take this loss alot better than last year’s.
Still proud of our guys. Darian, on a different day……. Calvillo was the better QB on this day.

  6. With all that said about today – Darian has to grow up a little when it comes to fans complaining about his play.
He gets a little tourqued about criticism. He should rise above it all instead of beaking off about it in the media. Darian needs to understand that the fans that complain about him are the same ones that cheer him on when he is doing great. That’s the way it is in pro sports. Like it or not these are the people who fund your paycheck and they have every right to voice their displeasure when you are not doing well on the field.
I listened to Darian doing some interviews the last couple of days and he really needs to let the noise drift by and not let it affect him the way he does.
Hell – Ronnie got his ass booed plenty at Taylor Field. Do you think it bothered him? No – he just played the game best he knew how.
In the end – it is never a good idea to disrespect the fans – you know – the fans who pay you.

  7. Knew the Al’s were going to win by the dressing room pep talk that was broadcast before the game. The Montreal coach is a class act by comparison, respectful and talked from the heart.
Discipline gets you to the dance, heart takes the prize home.

  8. I missed the first half, but watched the 3rd and 4th quarters. Very entertaining game, but at least in those quarters, the Als owned the gridiron. After their surprising 3rd down conversion halfway through the 3rd quarter, it was their game to lose — they had the momentum.
Great football game at a well-attended Commonwealth Stadium. Love the Grey Cup — truly a Canadian institution.

  9. “Love the Grey Cup — truly a Canadian institution.”
Much like the CBC. Only better. 1.6 billion times better.
And it doesn’t cost the taxpayers a dime.

  10. That was one of the least entertaining Grey Cup games of the last decade. That was an NFL final score, not the shoot’em up, high scoring CFL game we’ve come to expect. IMHO

  11. Many have described yesterday’s loss as heartbreaking. With all due respect to the current crop of Rider fans, many of whom were not yet born in 1976, losing the 98th Grey Cup game pales in comparison to what took place in the ’76 game with 20 seconds left.
I still have vivid flashbacks of Tony Gabriel alone in the end zone while Ray Odums and Ted Provost frantically tried to close the gap and Roger Goree looked on helplessly twenty yards away as Tom Clements’ pass floated into Gabriel’s arms.
Rider fans (there was no “Rider Nation” at that time) were dumbstruck, horrified, shocked, angry and disappointed beyond description.
This moment in infamy was even worse than the 2009 Grey Cup debacle.

  12. Last year the Als taught the Riders how to count.
This year, they taught them how to throw.
    Go Als go!
