And a hockey game broke out. The first day of the Breeders Cup begins with jockey fistfight after the first race. Game on!

When the jockeys are shadowed by large, rough men riding donkeys and euphemistically termed “enforcers”, I’ll start watching.
we put a donkey in with some thoroughbreds that get antsy on their own in their stall…sometimes a car tire hanging on the wall…whatever..
sea biscuit was considered a ‘smart’ horse by the racing folks cause when he was put in his stall he’d lay down on the hay and have a nap…think about stuff…calculate…. roll the last race past his inner eye..
betcha you didn’t know that..
and jockeys!!!
a very interesting fraternity indeed…the most underappreciated athletes today…
the sheer physical guts…the puking before a race….the runyanesqueness of the racket itself…the dope the buzzers the fixing and so on…
someone should write a book about it but jockeys NEVER talk…see…
i allus think of lester piggot mesself.
What’s up with the link? I was expecting to see a video of some bowlegged leprechauns duking it out.
Hey, I saw that. I had exactly the same thought.
Now, OT spread this around http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTSQozWP-rM&feature=player_embedded
i’ve seen a few fistfights…always enjoyed it…one would think it the straightest line to the ‘synthesis’ but it ain’t …..
except for yours truly….personally speaking….i never gave up on my ‘principle’ of course…but i was allus a little extry polite afterwards which follows naturally enough…
i have noticed it altered my so called opponent’s attitude…a titch…
but hell some guys eh…you never know do you where their heads are truly at…THEY don’t know themselves mostly i reckon..
hell i dunno…but i do enjoy the struggle to awareness…
all day and all night all around us…messy…wet and sometimes ennobling…
flashbacks to the old days of Saturday afternoon midget wrestling on TV . . .
You can rank that one right up there with Wayne Gretzky vs Niel Broten.
ah memories…i remember arriving at the depot and hearing a crash and bang in the lunch room..it was blythe dean and gig goodwin goin for it over betty boop as we called her…(always a broad somehow…always a broad involved somehow)
i invited mesself in and it was right out of treasure of the sierra madre…the fight scene in the bar…the boot and the chair and the whole thing necessary to make your point…both gents sober of course…
ah memories.
nobody won of course…it was on company property…but a while on gig did punch the silly clerk who dared to give us a shitty train…
back when men were men dagnabbit.
“This is absolutely unprecedented at this level of world-class racing!”
Not in the locker rooms it ain’t. It happens *all the time*.
Being constantly hungry for years – decades – on end makes them the snarliest guys on the face of the earth.
Zenyatta vs Citation and Ruffian and Seabiscuit and many more. Very cool

Very cool is right, Jennifah but where is big red – Secretariat, the greatest ever?
28 minutes to the first Cup race of the day, giddy up!
Our local track has a pick 6 pool going for today on the Cup, I hope we (meaning me) get a share, since there was a nice carryover from yesterday.
Lots of upsets yesterday, more for today?

NEAL Broten.
@different Bob. I think Secretariat is still in a class of his own. IMHO he would have put them all to shame.
Jennifah – I agree and am a little sad that the awesome big “Z” did not quite do it today. That in no way diminishes her greatness.
