Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

What utter rot.
“Yet magically it is still dumped…all over the place.”
If you had the faintest notion of Canada’s environmental laws and regulations you would understand what a lie this is.
“Take Somalia for example…toxic waste dumped offshore.”
A prime example of a country which has no law and no economy of any kind. It’s a mere kleptocracy and pirate haven for warring tribes.
“Take the oilsands…toxic crap dumped all over the place.”
You can’t even pretend that this statement has any truth in it whatsoever. The oil companies are fully accountable for their emissions and their waste management practices, or have you not been keeping up with the news lately? Syncrude is getting raked over the coals for 350 ducks, which represents about one milli-second of the duck hunting season.
In short, from your own statements you know nothing about environmental law and regulation as practiced in every industrial and most of the developing nations in the world.
bob c- yes, I agree, the average person didn’t fall for the AGW scam. And the real scientists didn’t buy it either.
Those who bought into it were the set of people funded by the government: academics, civil service, the left media.
I think the difference between these two sets of people is that the AGW scam is an authoritarian scam. It rests on an assertion of a future event; the ‘evidence’ for this future is analytic and abstract rather than empirical factual data. The nature of this future event is apocalyptic, a favourite scenario of the left, and requires authoritarian rule to prevent its occurrence.
As an abstract model rather than fact, AGW is immune to dissent and debate. As authoritarian, questions and criticism are deemed heretical and deviant; thus it takes on overtones of fundamentalism.
The tactics, however, of evading this apocalypse are, strangely, economic. The industrial world must ‘pay for its sins’ by handing over billions to the developing (and polluting) nations so that they can industrialize. Meanwhile, the industrial nations must cut their own economic production to ‘even out the world’s economies’.
This ‘reductionism to a uniform mode of world industrialism’ is a socialist/communist ideology, where the agenda is a homogeneity of existence under an authoritarian rule. But beneath the bland rhetoric of this socialist ideal of ‘we’ll all be alike all over the world’ lies the real agenda which is not homogeneity but seeks to use the wealth of the west to industrialize the east and south.
CGH …. it’s like shooting ducks on a Syncrude tailings pond.
According to the questions on that poll, between 13% to 17% of Americans are mass media lobotomised zombies.
cgh;
I would add about the 350 ducks you mention that the same environmentalists who are so concerned about them are also out trying to set up as many windmills as they can. They kill so many birds they’re referred to as bird blenders.
ET;
Like I’m sure you have as well, I’ve read quite a bit about this subject over the last 15 years or so. One guy who comes pretty close to what you’re saying is Vaclav Havel. I’m sure you’ve probably read some of his commentary, but if not it’s worthwhile.
bob c – yes, I agree with you completely. Havel is a remarkable individual. His insistence on the power of the individual, not the government but the individual, as the focus for the economy, for morality, for political authority…that’s what makes him so special.
Nice to see the sceptical viewpoint dominating the poll. There is hope…
Ommag, Bob, the modern environmentalists are in fact so blindingly ignorant about their own pet causes that it’s sometimes depressing in the extreme. Just consider any big city like Toronto in the years 1900-1950. What was it like? A gigantic pall of smoke and soot pouring out from, in every great city, hundreds of thousands of household chimneys. Even today, I can remember in the early 1970s coming back from a morning walking in London with my hands covered in soot from the air. And where is it now? Gone. Obliterated by technology through modern industrialization, oil and gas, and electric heating. And the soot and smoke from all those electric coal-fired stations? Gone, wiped out by electrostatic precipitators.
Oh, you want to talk about water pollution? Throughout the Middle Ages the city of Paris alone was dumping about 100,000 animal carcasses daily into the Seine River. It was France’s major centre for the tanning industry, so you also had all the waste from tannic acid and various other materials being dumped in addition to the raw sewage of about 90,000 people. In most of Canada today we regard with scorn the heathens in Victoria who are still pumping raw sewage into the Pacific.
Let’s talk bio-diversity. Since 1920, North America has been reforesting. Why? because of the abandonment of oat-burners as the principal form of transport and the consequent abandonment of large tracts of farmland, reinforced by the huge productivity gains of the real Green Revolution.
The bird-slicers that the ecos want to use to make electricity is recidivism at its worst. They want it because it doesn’t really work and places a de facto limit on energy supply. But what has science and technology done for energy? With nuclear, your entire family’s lifetime supply of electricity comes from a quantity of fuel you can pick up with one hand. And the mining footprint for such a trivial quantity of fuel? Well, trivial.
In short, modern technology and industrialization have been the greatest boon to the environment in thousands of years. And there isn’t one of the eco-freaks that has the slightest understanding of this.
Talk about a leading survey with pre-loaded questions.
Did what I could. Doesn’t look good for the global climate change fantasist’s.

“If you had the faintest notion of Canada’s environmental laws and regulations you would understand what a lie this is.”
Oh I won’t argue with you…I was never referring to Canada specifically.
“A prime example of a country which has no law and no economy of any kind. It’s a mere kleptocracy and pirate haven for warring tribes.”
No economy and corruption likely played a huge part in the decision by the Somali government (if you could call it that) allowing European and North American companies to dump their waste offshore. Do you think it’s a coincidence that toxic waste was dumped into fishing waters shortly prior to the rise in pirates? Guess the prior employment of a good number of pirates.
“You can’t even pretend that this statement has any truth in it whatsoever.”
Uh, there’s still toxic crap dumped everywhere. I don’t give a sh1t about a couple hundred ducks…the problem ain’t keeping the ducks out of the pond…the problem is with making the toxic cesspool for a pond in the first place.
“yes, I agree, the average person didn’t fall for the AGW scam. And the real scientists didn’t buy it either.”
Excuse me, I think you need to reconsider your conclusions. Show me where Judith Curry dismisses AGW. She is very critical of the politics and ‘tribalism’ in the debate…rightfully so. The IPCC is certainly worthless, and she makes that clear…but no where does she denounce anthropogenic influences on the planet.
“Let’s talk bio-diversity.”
Ok, lets. The planet is in the midst of a mass extinction…has been for some time.
“Since 1920, North America has been reforesting. Why?”
Hmmm…because shortly before 1920 they had clearcut it from coast to coast. Remember, these people came from Europe…where it’s still clearcut.
“the consequent abandonment of large tracts of farmland”
What the hell are you talking about..check your facts.
Hey Barryjo82@hotmail.com, nice typing idiot.
Lets see how many death threats you get for trolling SDA, then you and I can compare how many I’ve got from Lefties over the years.
“Hey Barryjo82@hotmail.com, nice typing idiot.”
A. I’m pretty sure I didn’t put my email in the name field
B. Really? Does that really make me an idiot even if I did make that accident? You are one pathetically immature human being…a simpleton.
“Lets see how many death threats you get”
I’ll keep you abreast.
I think the best possible place to dump toxic waste is into BTJ’s gullet. Yesterday, if possible.
Welcome to the “mediocrity” of real people living in the real world, BTJ. Hurts, doesn’t it, finding out we don’t all live in a fairytale castle, you elitist pig?
I love it when a life-wasting tiny-brained mama’s-basement-dwelling troll calls someone else immature and a smipleton. Yes, I do – assclown.
“make that accident” – at least most of us here have decent grammar, you frickin’ semiliterate dullard.
“at least most of us here have decent grammar”
Yourself not being one of ‘us’..
“immature and a smipleton”
Hmm, too bad you don’t know the difference between a typographical error and shitty grammar – kind of proves my point, don’t you think?
BTJ
Guess we’re done here, aren’t we, you stupid frickin’ troll assclown sock puppet.
