In tonight’s amusement en route to the Tips, an environmentally-conscious woman named Emily rewrites the lyrics to a familiar tune in the hopes that it might inspire people. Or something. I don’t know. Anyway, here’s her updated version of Blackbird.
You’re welcome.

Canadian blog The Kraalspace is winding down after a long run. “Dr. Mabuse” has been one of those quietly solid voices of modest decency on the Canadian conservative side of things, and she will be missed. If you’ve enjoyed the site in the past, feel free to pop over to say thanks.

Exact details are scant, but the Buenos Aires park offers its re-enactments of the creation of mankind, the birth of Christ, the resurrection and the last supper eight times a day. With a cast of extras in the costumes of Romans and early Palestinians, the park advertises itself as ‘a place where everyone can learn about the origins of spirituality.
‘Early Palestinians’, eh?

Sweden tacks to the right. It’s mentioned they still need to fix immigration, but it’s a nice start.
Nice mangle job on a beautiful song, geek-woman!
Frickin Youtube. I signed on, as a google account holder. Commented on the lady’s video, and the post is lost.
Something like most of my adult life…..
Maybe I’m being extremist here but there should be laws against ruining a perfectly good song. Whatever you may think of the Beatles, that woman had no right to make that song completely suck.
Finally my comments are there.
Now wait ’till the lawyers get a hold of her…
Her hair makes her look like she was just rescued from an oil slick too; guess she sings what she knows. Never been big on the call of blackbirds, but I’ll take it over that. Someone lock the attic door, quick!
I got to the 45 second point in her rewrite before I couldn’t handle it any longer.
Margaret Wente seems to now admit she was completely wrong about the Tea Party. Her column & Adler’s interview of her can be found here.

Thanks that was interesting.
Okay, now I sort of regret posting it. It wasn’t my intention to inspire any attacks on the young woman; I meant the focus to be on an *attitude* that she – earnestly – absorbed, along with untold millions of others.
In retrospect, though…
Note to self: in the future, don’t mock the powerless and inconsequential for their self-expressions…
No, really EBD, it’s okay; and Robert W. (Vancouver)
she still calls me and ignorant crackpot Christian and a dull old man. Well perhaps I’m taking it all too seriously, or maybe she’s not far off the mark.

Sage advice, for a fulfilling life.
hey guys i was reading the national review and thought of you http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/248236/dim-idea-rob-long
I know there’s been a lot of self congratulations over forcing climate scientists away from the pulpit and back into the lab but this thing seems to have taken a life of it’s own. Hopefully the republicans get swept into office and defang the EPA. Someone should send Prentice a memo.
Guilty by Political Affiliation
Watch this video and tell me that Meg Whitman isn’t guilty because she’s a Republican!!!
There’s a poll that’s still open on the Globe and Mail website that asks Is multiculturalism a failed experiment?
At the moment it’s 67% yes to 33% no (8,202 votes to 4,112) which I find remarkable for a forum in a PC organ like the G&M. Like I said, still open for voting at this time.
N’o.

“In Ads, Democratic Candidates Play Down Party (even in NY!)
NY Times ^ | October 4, 2010 | DAVID W. CHEN
One New York Democrat proclaims that he proudly opposed the federal government’s health care overhaul plan. Another one pledges, in the finest Tea Party spirit, to oppose any future financial bailouts. Still another has rolled out three Republicans in three separate commercials, all vouching for his credentials.
But there is one word you will not hear mentioned in any of these campaign advertisements: Democrat.
With the Democratic Party bracing for a dismal showing in the elections next month, many candidates are doing everything possible to convince voters that they are not tied at the hip to President Obama or Nancy Pelosi, the House speaker…
–snip–
And in central New York, Richard Hanna, a businessman, lumps images of his opponent, Representative Michael Arcuri, with Ms. Pelosi, Democrat of California, and the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, Democrat of Nevada. He expresses outrage over Congressional spending and flashes his credentials as “Republican. Independent.”
Democrats in New York may have been telegraphing their aversion to their traditional party brand this summer at their state convention in Rye Brook, when hundreds of banners heralded the arrival of the “New Democratic Party.”
Since then, Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo, the party’s standard-bearer, has assiduously eschewed any mention of the word Democrat in his advertisements for governor — unless you count those citing Mr. Cuomo’s prosecutorial efforts against Democrats and Republicans.
Mr. Cuomo does lean, however, on J. Patrick Barrett, a former state Republican chairman, who says in an advertisement that Mr. Cuomo is the only candidate with “the ability, independence and guts to take on Albany’s special interests.”
“Sure, I’m a Republican,” Mr. Barrett adds. “But this year it can’t be about politics. It’s about fixing what’s broken.””

Melting pot currently in the lead.
Liblogs has been hacked by Insects and spiders. Hah!
The background on that Globe and Mail page looks like a Liberal ad, with the “Our Turn To Lead” slogan and scatterred maple leafs.
Sorry, that’s “Our Time To Lead”

“We asked ourselves: ‘How would the authorities react when
faced with women wearing a burka and mini-shorts?’”
yeah, the authorities… that’s who you should be worried about.

Multiculturalism suffers from the same problem as nationalism, it is oriented around collective identity. Naive self-comforting in celebrating food, dress, dance and other cultural artifacts transformed into ideology become dangerous. Ethical basis for an individual life are thrown away and replaced by secondary attributes.
The Blackbird video is now removed.
Good thing I transcribed the lyrics, yesterday, no pun intended :).

PHOENIX — Arizona’s controversial immigration law has prompted denunciations, demonstrations, boycotts and a federal lawsuit. But it may not bring the protest vote many Democrats had hoped would stem a Republican onslaught in races across the country.
That’s because although many voters are disillusioned with the political process, Latino voters are particularly dejected, and many may sit these elections out, according to voters, Latino organizations, and political consultants and candidates.”

I just finished watching two hours of
‘Politics and Power’.
One segment that had me swearing again at this taxpayer-funded “news source” was about disclosure in regard to PMSH hiring someone that the “Power Panel” were not familiar.
Scott Reid from Reid-Feschuk was indignant.
However,it is rarely,if ever mentioned by the CBC hosts of this program about Reid’s political affiliation before he joined CBC as a regular guest. It is rarely,if ever mentioned, about Susan Smith’s (BlueSky Strategies) previous association with the previous gov’t. It is rarely,if ever mentioned, about John Duffy’s romp with the Liberals. The three above were at all one time communication directors with the Liberals.
Lately I have seen Don Newman, of BlueSky Strategies, giving political opinion.I do like to rant, but I also wrote to the ombudsman of CBC about this apparent conflict. That was May 1st of this year,I’m still awaiting an answer. It did take 7 months to get an answer before though.
. Liberal hypocrisy is alive and well, and broadcast from the working people’s wallets.
Just so this isn’t a total rant without a link,I did find a poll at CBC that asks if you would prefer more money for seniors or a corporate tax cut. That looks a tiny bit like a slanted question. I’d voted for the cuts, but if the question was tax cuts or give me a senate seat,I’d be voting for wallyj’s seat….Or maybe even unlimited rum. http://www.cbc.ca/politics/insidepolitics/2010/10/question-of-the-day-205.html

“Snuffed Out
Michael Ignatieff and the vanishing cigarette”
“Unfortunately, there was one small glitch: the Liberal brochure showed a happy family of older and younger generations. But no one noticed one family member was holding a cigarette.
“I look at this brochure where on page six the Liberals talk about health care and on page four they promote somebody smoking,” the Prime Minister chided.
Miraculously, the cigarette quickly disappeared from the photo on the Liberal website, thanks to the digital equivalent of air-brushing.”
