Tonight’s featured amusement en route to the Tips thread is a three-for-one soul music cover-song extravaganza as performed by four fictional brothers – “non-identical quadruplets” – who turned their musically-confusing uprootedness (they were born in the deep South before being hauled off to Detroit, the home of Motown and soul music) into a humorously mixed-up style of music.
From their 1993 album Into The Twangy-First Century, here are the Burns Brothers, aka Run C&W, performing a three-song soul music Medley consisting of Ray Charles’ What’d I Say, Stevie Wonder’s Superstition, and – my favourite part – Diana Ross and the Supremes’ Stop In The Name Of Love.

Also,Bourque news has a poll up on Helena Guergis. The wording could be considered slightly slanted. It has to do with PMSH’s handling of her now that she has been cleared of wrongdoing by the RCMP. No poll up yet on the media’s handling of the whole sordid business.

No, EBD – I’m not basing my theory on any assumption that the ‘gentiles’ want communion, fellowship, association and etc with ‘semites’. I’m not saying that at all.
My point is that the anti-semites are upset at being rejected by the semites, the Jews, who are simply indifferent to ‘gentile’ existence. That’s entirely different from the non-Jew wanting to join or associate with the Judaic society. My point is that the Judaic society is utterly indifferent to the ‘gentile’ peoples. Judaism is complete to itself. This indifference, this sense of self-fulfillment, this sense of ‘chosen’, this sense of a direct bond with god,.. enrages non-Jews.
I don’t think that it’s envy of Judaic success, or even acknowledgment of one’s own weakness, as you suggest, EBD. That perspective requires that one see all Jews as successful and oneself as unsuccessful. That isn’t the case. Certainly, the success is there; Judaism does emphasize scholarship and study, but so is failure and even, mediocrity. After all, we are all human, and there is greatness and failure in both sides. There are both Newtons and Einsteins as well as Madoffs and Capones.
I’m trying to figure out why anti-semitism exists, not merely among the ‘unwashed’ and impoverished – who often aren’t that antisemitic but are simply ignorant, but among the educated, the wealthy, the empowered.
These successful people can’t be envious for their own wealth and success is obvious but they are often openly anti-semitic. That’s what needs explanation. And I think the explanation rests in these powerful people’s anger at seeing a people, the Jews, who are indifferent to their power, their wealth, their success.
UN censor’s Edmonton sculpture

The 4.5-tonne sculpture, welded together from deactivated guns, landmines and ammunition, has been shown in many countries, including at UN headquarters in New York in 2001, and has never run into problems, said artist Sandra Bromley, who built the sculpture with Wallis Kendal.
Besides the weapons, the exhibit includes panels with photographs of more than 100 victims of violence from dozens of countries, including two images of Tibetan nuns.
All the photographs were removed in an act of “blunt censorship,” said Bromley.
That happened after the Chinese objected to exhibit organizers and other UN departments at the UN’s Vienna International Centre. China invaded Tibet in 1950, and has suppressed several uprisings in the Himalayan country.

ET is onto something here. I recall reading an article that said that the Christian’s relationship with God is like the perp in the docket who admits guilt and begs God for mercy, and wants to reform himself and is very remorseful. On the other hand, the Jew is like the guy who complains to God that He has broken His promises and that he owes them because he promised them and made them his Chosen Ones. He wants not just to be appeased and an apology but he demands costs with penalties etc..
That said, EBD is right about the antinomianism of the Jew which is especially grating to Catholics.
“EBD is right about the antinomianism of the Jew…”
You’ve crossed a hard line there, larben. Nothing I wrote came within fifty-thousand miles of what you said I was “right about.” Your thought processes on the matter are anathema to my own, and are frankly alien to me.
Seriously, knock it off.
Interesting post, John Brooks, re the censorship of the gun sculpture. It is an interesting piece of art, and the fact that the UN agreed to censor this without consultation is quite shocking. I am surprised at the scant coverage this story is getting — where is the CBC?
Knock it off, or what EBD? I am well aware of what antinomianism is about, we’ve fought with the Calvinists and other for years on the matter. You mentioned something about the “perception” of it by some non-Jews (or anti-Semites the other night), that’s all I’m saying, and threats don’t work on the internet, or were you not aware of that? Gosh, Vitruvius is beginning to look good these days.
I neither said nor implied that you’re not well aware of what antinoianism is about, and I didn’t argue that you haven’t fought with the Calvinists and others for years on the matter. All I’m trying to say is that I made no reference to antinomianism whatsoever – to either the word or the concept – and certainly said nothing about the “perception” of antinomianism among the Jews.
You came up with a finely-wrought, arbitrary-ish, and almost arcane subject matter and then suggested that this thought or idea of yours was in agreement with something that I had either stated or implied a few comments earlier, which I hadn’t.
It bears mention, but it’s not a big deal. If I wrote “Larben is entirely correct when he suggests that we must introduce Sharia law for pet turtles” you wouldn’t be P.O.’d, but you’d probably go “Huh?” too.
larben – my outline of the isolation and self-sufficiency of the Jews has zilch to do with antinomianism.
They most certainly do not have the attitude, as you describe, that ‘God owes them’. Absolutely not.
Nor do they consider themselves above the laws of the country in which they reside. Nor above their own laws.
My point was only that they exist as a people with a religious and societal ideology that they consider complete. They have no interest in converting others to it, and no need to enlist aid from others. But this isolation does not mean that they reject or ignore their own laws or the civic laws of the country in which they live.
Therefore – I don’t get your point. It has nothing to do with what I’m trying to explore.
