Is it just me, or is anyone else finding the cacophony arising from the left-o-sphere regarding the new proposed news network a source of amusement? I know Springer thinks so, and Chucker.
Far be it from me to point out the obvious to our lefty betters, but one would think they would wait until the actual press conference tomorrow before granting us their invaluable opinion. Their reasons to belittle the new channel are manifest…the dumbing down of Canadians, the demise of impartial media, forced funding of ideological media, nothing but red meat to the neanderthal conservatives, blah, blah, blah. One idiot senior liberal blogger actually bragged about watching a whole ten minutes of Fox which justified his having an opinion. And they call us dumb?
For decades the right has been throwing the same things at the CBC, but now it’s different.
Now bias is a problem.
Now being forced to pay for something is wrong.
Now it’ll prevent Canadians from using their heads.
I can guarantee you one thing, if this network is as the media is describing, it will dominate the West and vast portions of Ontario.
Now we’ll finally have our choice. And you liberals can look forward to losing your monopoly.

Great discussion SDA people. It’s funny, I too felt skeptical and depressed with the thought that I couldn’t immediately think of any newspaper/TV opinion person – even here in “Knuckledragger” Alberta – who could be worthy of a spot on this proposed new ConTV network. Until snowbunnie reminded me of Ezra Levant and, of course, Mark Steyn. Ezra (as a former magazine publisher of note) as News Director with a weekly opinion spot – ala Miller/Goldberg/Beck on the “No Spin Factor” anchored by Steyn. Seems like a start. Maybe others, such as National Post Financial Post columnists Terence Corcoran and Peter Foster. Certainly our Kate McMillan. Lets see if we can come up with a slate of nominees. Instead of exuding skepticisim and depression, lets be positive about this.
Yes garrysworld, good start on the conservative personalities I’d like to see on the Canadian Conservative News Network.
Here are some more personalities I’d like to see:
Colby Cosh, Kathy Shaidle, Ted and Link Byfield, Preston Manning…
Wow, the whole idea of this is so exciting!

Have a look. Make suggestions.
Oz:
Your list has a few items that are not consistent with reality.
a) what is ‘anti-Americanism’
b) there was never a health care plan that did not include a public option (we’re talking the US right?)
c) identity politics, is that really a ‘Democratic’ core policy? Or is the state of politics period these days?
d) Cutting military spending…do you agree with the way our military, not to mention the US military, is used?
e) is ‘radical environmentalism’ really a core policy…or is it an offshoot, an extreme end of the ‘left’…the opinion of under-educated, collectivist minded people..many of which actually do not participate in the traditional ‘right-left’ politics…and often politics period.
There is too much irrational ‘left-bashing’ around here…it just generalizes issues into a simple ‘right vs left’…how can you have a reasonable discussion when you group something as wide as personal opinion into two groups? Especially when many of today’s problems span across the political spectrum and are a symptom of widespread ways of thinking.
All of my listed points are consistent with reality, just not reality as you see it through your rose colored glasses.
I won’t go into them in detail because that would take the tread off topic.
You’ll either have to surf the net for examples or wait with bated breath for them to be discussed on the new Canadian Conservative News Network.
note: (b ObamaCare is constituted in such a way as to eliminate the private health insurance industry and nationalize healthcare facilities)
OZ:
“just not reality as you see it through your rose colored glasses.”
You’re a Neo-Con..not a conservative…and this is the typical Neo-Con comeback…first attack anyone who does not agree with you as a hippy leftist.
“I won’t go into them in detail because that would take the tread off topic.”
You mean you can’t, and that’s why you wrote them, because you can get away with blatant false statements without any facts to back them up by claiming ‘it’s too much, it’ll take us off course’. In reality, you took us there to begin with, so finish the job.
ObamaCare…Another typical Neo-Con strategy…dumb down and distort an issue by using a catchy-phrase insinuating lies.

A station of mostly conservative views(remember fox is balanced) can have a great impact on semi-comatose folks tired of lefty crap and if they can signup a “MarkSteyn” or other heavyweight–awesome!!! Course there is the crtc……The Harpacrats would pickup big points by shelling the crtc, temporarily.
The Harpacrats would pickup big points by shelling the crtc, temporarily.
It would be best to devolve the CRTC to the pre-Trudeau CRBC and it’s original mandate, with some tweeks to include modern technologies.
I can’t help but feel more apprehensive about this venture than hopeful. A lot of good can come of it, but there are many potential pitfalls. I can see a lot of embarrassing moments happening, especially if Ezra Levant gets in front of a camera. Ughh, he’ll be there Glenn Beck.
He’ll be where Glenn Beck?
Like to add justice reform.
Severe, draconian justice reform.
I’ve just sent this to the CRTC:
It’s about time that Canadians had a chance to receive news and opinion on TV from Canadians who don’t toe the left-wing party line—as in propaganda—of the MSM networks. (I stopped watching these one-sided, political bag[wo]men and bullies years ago.)
Although, so far, the CRTC has done nothing to encourage diversity of opinion re Canadian TV news networks, I’d imagine that your officers are aware of the stipulation of the Broadcasting Act, which requires that broadcasters “provide a reasonable opportunity for the public to be exposed to the expression of differing views on matters of public concern”.
Now’s your chance to really do your job and support true diversity!
And, an added advantage: FOX News will have fewer viewers, as lots of us will now decide to “buy Canadian”. There doesn’t seem to be any down side to licensing SUN News’ new station.
Just. Do. It.
P.S. Please pass this on to the chairman. My question: will the CRTC license this long overdue addition to Canada’s cultural mosaic?
