As I write, I have my papers on me — and not just because I’m in Arizona. I’m an immigrant, and it is a condition of my admission to this great land that I carry documentary proof of my residency status with me at all times and be prepared to produce it to law-enforcement officials, whether on a business trip to Tucson or taking a 20-minute stroll in the woods back at my pad in New Hampshire.
Who would impose such an outrageous Nazi fascist discriminatory law?
Er, well, that would be Franklin Roosevelt.
But don’t let the fine print of the New Deal prevent you from going into full-scale meltdown. “Boycott Arizona-stan!” urges MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann, surely a trifle Islamophobically. What has some blameless Central Asian basket case done to deserve being compared to a hellhole like Phoenix?

I’m a little slow on the uptake here so please inform me; what race is “Illegal Alien”?
Ignore the sensible woman who reads legislation and forms opinions based upon facts and experience.
Please turn your attention to our ignorant journalist overlords, who excel at deception!
How dare they use honesty against us!

Joe…in leftie/commie/socialist lexicon…that is anybody who thinks the law of the land and the Feds law should be enforced….in other words white, christian people…or in this case, even LEGAL hispanics, whatever.
Or even more simply put…ANYBODY who opposes ANY hopey/changey,unicorn and rainbow elitist wet dreams.
You tell me Joe **
Nice video. Having been through the exact same hammer mill that lady went through, I applaud her strength. I told the bastards to keep it and came back home to Dumbtario. I’ll live in the USA when they FIX their immigration debacle, until then I’ll visit.
Arizona law.
Item 1, cops in Ontario can pull you over if they feel like it. They do not need any reason whatsoever. Cops in Arizona cannot do that. They must have probable cause. If they see some guy walking down the street in a sombrero and a Mexican blanket, with a six gun on both hips, singing the Frito Bandito song at the top of his lungs, -they-can’t-ask-him-for-jack-.
Item 2, US Federal law already requires non-citizens to carry proof of legal immigration status. I carried the dumd-ass little non-wallet sized bit of cardboard around with me for ten years. The Arizona law DOES NOT REQUIRE that you produce that Federal INS form, because they know the INS frequently does not issue that form to legal immigrants, sometimes for months or even years.
In fact the Arizona driver’s license department has a special unit to handle immigrants (like myself) who don’t have their INS papers because the INS just didn’t get around to doing it. (Ask me how I know). The Arizona law requires you to produce -any- state or federal ID, passport, whatever.
Item 3, the US Border patrol already does what this bill provides for. They stop your car, ask you your citizenship, and say “your papers please”. They do it at the border, AND they do spot checks on highways in all the border states. They pull all the traffic over to an off-ramp by parking their scary looking trucks sideways across the road, then everybody has to drive past a camera and a bunch of armed men asking papers please.
So the lady in the video is 100% right on. And so is Ann Coulter in that other video. Legal immigrants will not be harassed by this law. Illegal ones will be. But frankly, I can’t get too upset about that. Having done every damn thing by the book, even when I wasn’t allowed to read the f-ing book, scofflaws get no sympathy from me. Get in line or stay the F- home.
Trolls may now feel free to scream RACIST really loud, but be aware we all know you’re full of poopy and don’t know jack about Arizona. Rage on.
I’ve spent time in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and California. Got asked a bunch of times to prove who I was etc. The worst hassles I’ve ever had were by the police in Bellingham Washington and Sault Ste Marie Michigan. Damn rednecks.
RACISM!!!
I’m trying to deal with my racism, but I’m having difficulty defining the triggers. For example, when I hear a Hispanic accent I can sometimes feel contempt for the speaker but on the other hand when I listen to Gabriella Sosito, I want to give her a big hug. The same goes for black people, French Canadians, and Native Canadians (Indians by federal definition).
So does that mean that I’m only a racist about people with whom I disagree? What about my disagreement with certain WASPS? I’m very confused about this, somebody (maybe Phantom) please help.
We can use a few more of Gabriela Saucedo (just my guess at how her name is spelled). What a great spirit she has!
So I’m raciest because I want law breakers incarcerated. And if I wish to be seen as non raciest, I must ignore rapist, child molesters, arsonist, murderers, embezzlers, kidnappers, drug smugglers, and man made disasters wearing bombs. Now I understand California allows adults to have their way with children as long as it is not Rape Rape, am I to assume there is now a new standard to be applied for other crimes as well? Sorry that is B/S, if you can’t do the time don’t do the crime, everyone is required to obey the law including those wishing to become citizens.
CNN and other media outlets try to blur the line between illegal immigrants and legal immigrants. They are not the same. Why should those who wait their turn and provide requested documentation in order to get their green cards and finally citizenship status be bumped back by those unwilling to go the honest route?
Phantom is right on target with his comment.
I immigrated legally to the USA, and the process is like a puzzle. As with all bureaucracy, very little of it makes sense. Having gone through background checks, a medical exam, etc., I can say that when illegal immigrants are let in without doing any of that, it is saying that all the procedures are just a bunch of smoke to cover the fact that all the fees are in effect just a head tax. I went through it all to marry an american. If that hadn’t been my purpose, I think I would have said “forget it” and stayed in Ontario too.
Black Mamba, you don’t count. You forgot to fill out form 12b(2) on your troll registration.
Nice try though. ~:D
I see Mark Steyn is channeling The Phantom today. Mark gets all his best stuff from me y’know.
GreyOne40 congratulations of beating them at their own game. If it was all just a head tax I’d have paid it and been happy. But it isn’t only a head tax. Its also a method of maintaining the gargantuan bureaucracy that has grown up in the INS. They chew us up and spit us out the way a cow eats a corn stalk, and for the same reason. Food.
I actually went to the extreme of getting the Senator for Minnesota to intercede for me with those morons after they went silent on me for a year. Whole year, no answers, no forms, no f- all. Do you know, they -ignored- the Senator of Minnesota? Ignored his ass like he was the freakin’ janitor. Didn’t answer any of his letters!
That’s when I said f- it and came home. If a federal senator not only can’t kick something loose for a constituent, but he can’t even get anyone on the G.D telephone?! Democracy in the USA is an illusion, as are states rights.
Arizona just got tired of their bullsh1t, is what happened. Arizona is serving the feds notice. I will not be surprised to hear that FBI, Homeland Security and a few more alphabet soup wankers stop getting any cooperation with federal law charges in Arizona.
Texas, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah to follow shortly, no doubt. People are getting really tired of arrogant fools in Washington. Barry’s administration is like the head on a really big zit that’s been boiling up for a while.
As my handle implies, I’ve spent some time working (legally) in Texas. It was a pain in the butt to jump through the legal hoops every year to stay kosher but that is all part of the deal when you want to work in the US of A. I’ve met and worked with several immigrants of the legal variety and the money and time they spent in the queue is astounding. Mind you, they didn’t have to pay any coyote fees. Of course these folks are not in the streets calling the law of the land racist, mainly because they are two busy working so they can pay taxes to take care of those demonstrating “undocumented” folks.
If the great “0” decides to provide amnesty then I might be tempted to sneak across the border and turn myself in so I can live and work on both sides of the border.
When are the bleeding hearts going to speak up for legal immigrants who have to re-adjust to entirely new surroundings but are willing to do so because they want to live in the US? Who marches for them?
Who marches for them?
Why do they need help, they’ve already got it made man.
Glasnost, how would feel if, after having fled some god-awful hole, applying legally for citizenship, learning English, going to night school and finally taking citizenship, you are told by some bleeding hearts that you have to pay for illegal immigrants who’ve NEVER worked as hard as you? Surely you see the ethical disparity. How is it fair that some can follow the rules yet others don’t have to?
She will pay dearly for breaking faith with the whiners and those who aren’t willing to become true Americans and uphold the laws as they’re passed.
I’m very confused about this, somebody (maybe Phantom) please help.- glasnost
What you have is an extreme rationality disorder. You, like many others, are afflicted with the common sense to recognize that each race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc.comes in 4 varieties.
1. The normal- rarely heard from as they are busy minding their own business
2. The whiners- the “poor me, everyone is out to get me” victim type
3. The shysters- “give me more money, more power…moRE…MORE!!”
4. The seriously unhinged – Kate regularly links to their antics
Sorry, the only treatment is to become a progressive and live in blissful ignorance of reality.
Why are there so many Mexican flags being waved at pro-illegal immigrant rallies? How odd.
I wonder how many illegals are holding protest rallies in Arizona…heh.
I applaud this lady. I am sure her good common sense statement will be dutifully ignored by the douche bag council and media…
I’m going through the process right now – never once questioned that I had to carry the doc’n with me (although I’m deathly afraid of losing it, given how hard it is to get..). Its tough, its confusing, but its the law and we do it cuz its the law in this land we are choosing to live in. I have ZERO sympathy for anyone trying to do it illegally.
Phantom, I’m stealing this line if that’s ok with you: “Get in line or stay the F- home” I need a new sig and that sums my feelings up exactly. Thank you.
I am really torn on this one.
Sure, I’m completely on-board when it comes to the idea of stopping illegal immigration – especially when it is at the grotesque level they’re seeing there. If you want to enter a country that is not your own, you should have to sign the guestbook at the front door and make your intentions clear.
But something bothers me about a nation like the US becoming a “may I haff your paperz pleez” country.
“But something bothers me about a nation like the US becoming a “may I haff your paperz pleez” country.”
They aren’t stopping people and asking them for ID. They are asking people who have already been stopped for ID. People who have already done something to get stopped.
Last month I did a rolling stop at a 4 way stop. First thing the cop did was ask me for my license.
“May I have your papers?”
Not you Bryceman, but have you ever noticed that when you really push them, it turns out that many Leftists/Libs get their ideas from (old) movies and tv shows?
They carry around Noam Chomsky books, but they’ve developed well over half their ideas about the world from Apocalypse Now, MASH, the Grapes of Wrath, ROOTS, the preacher in Footloose, Law & Order, All in the Family…
If you push them, they’ll acknowledge that yeah, well, they saw/heard XYZ in an old movie and since used it to form their worldview, effect how they vote etc.
For instance, when they make fun of “rednecks,” I always ask them if they’ve ever actually MET anyone who pronounces the word “foreigners” “FER-en-erz,” or if they just got that from Smokey and the Bandit or something.
I’ve done that trick on them at parties/office jobs for years. It works because I have an even bigger personal mental library of pop culture frames of reference than they do. It also helps that I’m an ex lefty; it’s a bit like being an ex-drinker — you can’t con a con. 🙂
They hate it. It’s fun.
Then again, bryceman, you have to show your “papers” for many transactions. Police asking for license and registration, giving your hospitalization card for medical services, your SIN is required to access many government services and so forth. If citizens and legal immigrants are required to produce papers for day-to-day business then I see no reason why this new law is considered an undue burden.

“….. something bothers me about a nation like the US becoming a “may I haff your paperz pleez” country.”
This is where in modern history the Liberal left and corporate America has dumped their waste.
Now everyone lives in a police state. By design? Who knows, but everyone pays in the end, and it is the beginning of the end for the greatest truly free nation to have ever once existed.
I see nothing wrong about carrying identity papers that certify that one is a citizen or a legal immigrant to a nation. What this does it define the validity or non-validity of membership in this nation. What’s wrong with that? How does that infringe on freedom? How can such a requirement be defined as a ‘police state’?
In a non-civic society such as one that defines membership in the nation by kinship or tribe, then, this validation of membership is by DNA. It’s genetic. Or, by marriage into the kin group – and this marriage has to be approved by the tribe.
In a modern non-tribal society that rejects membership defined by blood but opts for membership by choice, then, it is defined by those papers.
As pointed out, we declare the validity of our civic membership by proving that we contribute to its fiscal and political viability. We show some proof that we contribute, by our SIN, by our driver’s licence, by our medical card.
If you want to become a member of a nation whose membership is defined by CHOICE rather than blood ties, then, you must show some evidence of this choice. This is the documentation. What’s wrong with this?
Illegals, who choose to enter the US, but who refuse to become fiscal and political members of the nation, have no rights to claim civic services. No rights to claim educational, medical and other infrastructural services provided by the state. But..they insist that these are ‘human rights’. No. They are societal rights and available only to those who are valid members of the civic society.
The Mexican illegals ignore the very idea of a civic participation in a nation and instead insist on a tribal membership. They insist on these societal services because they are ‘hispanic’; because they are members of a tribe of ‘all America is one nation’.
Mexico, you will note, is quite upset with Arizona. After all, the agenda of Mexico is to offload its poor on to the US taxpayer, and use its money, not for an economic jobs infrastructure for these people WITHIN Mexico..but to use its money for the corrupt elite class.
It also helps that I’m an ex lefty….They hate it. It’s fun.

That would explain your recent inexplicable rants directed at me, a dyed in the wool blue conservative, for not being offended over choice of carpets in a recently opened Ontario library.
Brief relapse?
The thing for me is I think of the guys in the US military that are fighting for a country they are not citizens of. To risk your life for that piece of paper. Some get it posthumously. I read the new Ariz. law that de-funds teaching insurrection against the US in post secondary education. It makes no sense to me unless they are hell bent on collapse and they just hate the sound of reason.
Say mouthybleet, I notice you’ve got NOTHING on this topic, just some bile to fling at Kathy Shaidle.
Come on, not even one little whisper of “RACIST!” for Arizona? Do it for the children, bleetymouth.
BTW, where did you form your worldview? Willie Wonka’s Chocolate Factory?
After listening to what Gabriella had to say twice; one sentence stood out from the rest “this country has a right to defend itself against foreign invaision”. While the msm were egging on the protesters Hussein Obama and his marx pals were passing a law to allow Porto Rico to become the 51 state; with all the fallout that that decision would have on the USA; should the bill pass through the senate. Glen Beck had a show about the implications of such a crisis last week. WHY would the USA want Porto Rico to give up it’s autonomy and become the 51st state? The Porto Ricans have rejected the idea of statehood 3 times – yet the US Congress introduces a bill to allow such an event? Medicare? Drive the economy to the brink?
All Americans should sit up and take note of what this lady had to say because I think she choose her words wisely. She does not want the Mexican/ South American drug cartels ruling the USA – Do those protesters have shares in the Drug/human trade? Ann Coulter said American people should be hiring legal citizens to do their housework/cooking etc.; I think she is correct. And all those who oppose this law are thinking about how nasty it would be to have to shell out real $$$ to have the free labour that illegal immigrants allow them access to…my Mom and Dad had 4 kids that did the jobs that illegals do …good luck with that , all you parents!
Gabriella Sosito
I listened with fascination….yeah I know that she was reading something drafted by an anglophone….but she comprehended what she read/said precisely.
Can you imagine her affect with a teleprompter or two?
In this current political atmosphere, at times it is difficult to take pride in having served and shed blood in the cause of freedom, and then along comes a Gabriella Sosito and the faith is renewed….
ET said: “I see nothing wrong about carrying identity papers that certify that one is a citizen or a legal immigrant to a nation.”
Neither do I, assuming I’m not required to produce them ten times a day, and assuming I can get them without extreme sacrifice of time, dignity and money, and assuming I have some kind of appeal to higher authority when I meet up with a minion of the state having a bad day. And assuming I’m not on a bus to jail if I forget my wallet some morning.
As a visitor to the USA all (or most) of those assumptions are true. As a Canadian they are true. So far anyway.
Forgive me, I must now rant a bit. Bad history, you know.
Trying to get a landed immigrant status Green Card in the USA? Assumptions not true anymore. They can and will deport your ass to the nearest border with nothing but the clothes you are standing in, should they feel so inclined. If you don’t have every damned piece of paper filled out just right and in your hand, they will quite likely be inclined.
Also, I bet you can’t remember when the last time was you had to -prove- you were a Canadian citizen except at the border. Driver’s license is a permit to use public facilities and proof of tax payment. If you had to prove your right to be here several times a week I bet you’d change your mind about ID. Think “internal passport and check points”. Police state.
In a free country -they- have to prove you’re -not- a citizen, you don’t have to prove you are. USA is not a free country for immigrants, and the strain of that wears on you after a while. When you become a citizen, THEN you can tell authoritarian power tripper cops and border guards to shove it. When you’re just a lowly immigrant, you are their beeatch and you better play the part.
But illegal Mexicans don’t face this. They’ve been getting a special “look the other way” deal from state and federal authorities for 20 years, by order of the DemocRat party.
Special deal over boys. Get in line with us stupid by-the-book Canadian people.
ahem. /.rant mode/.
I’m working in Shaunavon, Sask. this month. The bank does not have interact, I needed two pieces of picture ID to get a hundred dollars on my VISA. I needed to go to the local landfill, residents are charged five dollars for the convenience, non-residents ten dollars. The local RCMP struck up a conversation with me just to see how I was doing, didn’t ask me for ID since I wasn’t doing anything illegal, but I was profiled as a non-resident. Should I sue the bank for not having interact? Should I sue the town for discrimination? Should I make a complaint against the RCMP? What’s wrong with Shaunavon and Arizona? The nerve.
phantom – Canada is not under direct attack, as is the US, by Islamic fascism. The US has every right to be vigilant about its citizenship.
Furthermore, your experience is one example; I’m aware of other Canadians who work in the US and haven’t experienced any of the hassles you endured. Not one. Nor is deportation by whim or ‘should they feel so inclined’.
I’m aware also of people trying to get landed immigrant status in Canada and having to go through such niceties as ‘we lost your deposit’; and, ‘the picture wasn’t good enough’, so the applicant has to fly in from Seoul to Toronto to attend a personal meeting with the bureaucrats. How’s that for cost-of-immigration?
Furthermore, Canada as not an example of ‘what to do’. For example, I object to the fact that you don’t have to prove citizenship here in Canada in order to vote. I’ve been an observer of a number of federal and provincial elections; all you need to vote, is a driver’s licence or two envelopes with your name and address on it. Absolutely no proof of citizenship is required. None.
“That would explain your recent inexplicable rants directed at me, a dyed in the wool blue conservative, for not being offended over choice of carpets in a recently opened Ontario library.”
You’re kidding, right? I’d forgotten all about that. That was what? three weeks ago. Wow, dude, get a frickin’ life.
Don’t give me so much power over your moods.
Ohh, Kathy, hmm… people don’t forget like that.
People recall an accumulation, not a LIFO queue.
(So does this mean I’m no longer allowed to be stoked that Kathy noticed a bl@wjob joke that I made on SDA some time ago at around 2:00AM?
Because she actually said it was her second favorite comment on the whole thread and everything.
And that did honestly really cheer me up.
I’ll get a life when I’m good and ready.
Anyway it was KevinB’s fault.)
Wouldn’t it be easier just to sew a small sombrero shaped patch on their lapels, and if they’re caught without their sombrero, we send them to a concentration camp.
One slight problem with getting rid of illegal aliens in that neck of the woods. Who will pick the watermelons??
Yankee hypocrites!
Anyways, it’s too late, Rick Sanchez is already in.
RE: But illegal Mexicans don’t face this. They’ve been getting a special “look the other way” deal from state and federal authorities for 20 years…
It goes back way longer than that. I guess that most usually, the legal immigrants do not pick lettuce. The agricultural industry always accommodated pickers but the last 20 years illegals working for less money have branched out into lots of other jobs.

“….. something bothers me about a nation like the US becoming a “may I haff your paperz pleez” country.”
Lest we forget, our so-called “conservative” CANADIAN government is presently drafting legislation that would give police the power to arbitrarily pull over people at random, any time, any place, (no, RIDE checks are not the same thing) on the pretense that it is necessary because of drinking and driving.
I spent the past winter in Arizona. I was shocked to read about safety advisories for the national forests on the border. Essentially it said, “Don’t go there, drug dealers and human smugglers will kill you.” Of course they used very polite and proper euphemisms for it, but that’s what I read between the lines. I also read several stories in local newpapers about people on the border who had someone cross the border, rob them, kill them, and then melt back into Mexico. It’s a war zone on that border. Anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves.
jamie mcmaster – to my understanding, this draft legislation is supported by MADD.
It goes further than ‘probable cause’ which is evidence of drinking supported by an external symptom (bottle, erratic driving, you admit to drinking).
Instead, it relies on internal evidence – a breathalyzer.
I’m not convinced by the objections that this action is a symptom of a ‘police state’.
“to my understanding, this draft legislation is supported by MADD. Posted by: ET at May 3, 2010 10:19 AM”
And??? There are lots of publicly-funded parasitic NGOs supporting legislation that intrudes on our basic Charter Rights.

Bullshit: The proposed legislation would allow the stop to be totally arbitrary.

Then go back to sleep. Maybe if/when you wake up you’ll have a right or two left.

My experience—voting at a local school gym…is that there is usually you are known to one of the election officials—-good odds when there are 4-5 polls in the same room.
But then a drivers licence, health card, FAST card, PAL would likely be sufficient.
Prior to FAST…the border types prefered the PAL.
BTW…If you are driving a rig—your statis at a weigh scale in Canada or the US is that of a potential alien….regardless of citizenship.
licence, registration, manifest, authority, CVOR, insurance……….
