I, for one, always want the opinion of one classically trained in the hard sciences of theater, English, and philosophy (see Wikipedia) when attempting to sort out scientific controversies.

    The White House on Monday made exceptionally clear that it wants nothing to do with the furor over documents that global warming skeptics say prove the phenomenon is not a threat.
    Despite the incident, which rocked international headlines last week, climate science is sound, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs stressed this afternoon, and the White House nonetheless believes “climate change is happening.”
    “I don’t think that’s anything that is, quite frankly, among most people, in dispute anymore,” he said during Monday’s press briefing.
    Climate change skeptics have asserted over the past week that the publication of more than 1,000 private e-mails and documents once housed in the University of East Anglia’s computer system refutes most modern global warming evidence.
    The documents, unearthed by a blogger who hacked into Climate Research Unit’s (CRU) private system, have since touched off an international debate over the veracity of those scientists’ works.
    But the dispute is proving especially troublesome for the Obama administration as it prepares to head to Copenhagen next week for a climate change summit — a forum the president will attend.
    Not only has the White House faced criticism from the left for offering too few concessions ahead of the meet, it is now fielding dissatisfaction from the right for participating in a summit sponsored in part by the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) — one of the research organs touched by the CRU spat.
    “I think there’s no real scientific basis for the dispute of this,” responded Gibbs to questions about those scientists’ credibility.
    Nevertheless, congressional Republicans this week hope to ramp up their criticism of both global warming policy and the science that informs it.
    Most vocal seems to be Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), the ranking member of the Environment and Public Works Committee. Inhofe demanded on Friday a hearing into the IPCC’s research to determine whether it “cooked the science to make this thing look as if the science was settled, when all the time of course we knew it was not.”
    “[T]his thing is serious, you think about the literally millions of dollars that have been thrown away on some of this stuff that they came out with,” he told reporters, noting it was “interesting” the e-mails surfaced before the Copenhagen summit.”

Several of the posters are ripping Bob MacDonald’s apologies all to shreds. If the “Kate” was you, it’s the best comment I’ve read so far. Lots still to go, though.

  28. I read some of the comments. Those ‘believers’ are like zombies. One of them stated that we should discuss opinions but accept facts .. and that Anthropogenic Global Warming was indeed a fact.
    That level of stupidity give me the chills.

This has to prove that he never bothered to investigate or read the CRU e-mails, he states, “climate science stands on a firm footing of rigorous research and appropriately skeptical peer review, not on what people say privately through emails or chatting over the water coolers, “. Even a cursory read through shows that peer review and rigorous research are meaningless phrases to the CRU and that simply has to poison anything they have to say or offer in their databases.

I’m also surprised by the number disagreeing with his story, including my own. Obviously the readers are not limited to what CBC news reports, a story this big cannot be hidden for long. Also tonight, CTV Tom Clark included the first mention of the story,I heard, by the Conservative strategist, Rick Anderson.

  47. I suppose Bob McD would also agree that the wholly-without-credibility claims of Richard Colvin were “illegally made”, in light of the latest known facts surrounding the controversy? Since they obviously are, would this then mean that, ergo, there cannot have been any torture? Of course, that would be illogical, but logic isn’t something that Leftists are known to care about.
    Nevertheless, the fact that he threw crap upon the exposure of the damning emails, etc., as “illegally released” shows his desperation to propagate against the absolutely 100% undeniable FACT that the whole agw/cc thing is finally dead, destroyed, six feet under. Of course, in the alternative, Mr. McD could simply be very ignorant and uninformed about Climategate.
    Mr. McD and folks like him desperately want to carry on as if the “science is sound” when non-delusional, hard-proven-available-to-be-scrutinized-facts-focussed folks know that it ABSOLUTELY IS NOT SOUND!
    Sheesh. Those many folks who pretend that the whole thing isn’t wholly discredited and terminated have no more credibility than those who believe, without any credible evidence, that Bush had foreknowledge that 9/11 was going to take place.
    You know, those who have scrupulously examined all the facts and non-facts surrounding the controversy of whether Obama actually does qualify under the Eligibility Clause to be President actually have a case, and know that there is NO evidence that Obama qualifies. Those who dismiss the eligibility question as B.S. themselves never saw any evidence to make the case that it’s B.S. and only wish to believe that, of course, Obama must necessarily be eligible, because, of course, those responsible for verifying it (the DNC, actually!) necessarily did (there’s evidence that they deliberately ignored the whole thing altogether and let Obama run anyway).
    I marvel at the astonishing phenomenom that those who insist that the earth is warming (when they can see, if they bother to look, that it is NOT) and that the “science is sound” when we now know that it is NOT, are mostly the same folks who insist that Obama meets the Eligibility Requirements of the Constitution. NO ONE has ever produced any evidence whatsoever that it’s the case (the COLB uttered online was NEVER AUTHENTICATED by alleged issuer Hawaii who refused to do so when asked, and was declared a fraud by an expert who also, because he’s impartial, declared other alleged birth certificates to be frauds).
    We must look at the evidence and lack thereof. It’s absolutely wrong to simply accept that something is so just because one’s told so.
    Everywhere I look, I see delusional people. I see mass delusion. Apparently this is a part of human civilizational nature, stemming from human psychological nature. It’ll always be like this, obviously.

  49. I always liked Bob MacDonald, having thought of him as more of an entertaining or kooky “Prof. Science”. However, considering his employer’s untenable stance taken, I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised to now see him posing as an expert on everything from British law to Canadian demographics. Allowing dissenting opinions on your blog may be commendable Mr. MacDonald, though still and all I find the moniker “Baghdad Bob” certainly conforms perfectly to your unenviable position at CBC.
