“The fight for concentrated power is on.”

Whywas this unrest we see today not manifest during the Bush administration? The auto companies were run by private entities out of Detroit, the financial institutions were run by private entities out of New York, and people’s individual wealth was found in their homes and savings plans. Today – in a few short months – the auto industry and the banks are given their marching orders by czars in Washington; individuals have seen their personal financial security blankets shredded. And now they see Washington reaching to control how and where they can get their health care. In short, they see the wealth and power in this country being sucked via a gigantic power grab into the hands of a small, insular elite in Washington run by a man in whom they have no confidence that he is up to the task of running their lives in the most intimate way.

  1. Why was this unrest we see today not manifest during the Bush administration?
Short answer? The angry right fringe votes Republican. The rest is just Fixed Noise, Hannity innanity talking points.

  2. “Angry fringe” now at 56% of the population.
It’s going to fun to watch the Dems scratching thier heads in 2010, wondering how the “fringe” managed to retake the house.

  3. “Why was this unrest we see today not manifest during the Bush administration?”
Short answer? Americans see their liberty at stake. It has nothing to do with Republicans or Democrats.

  4. Interesting times indeed….
Pelosi voiced what Dem’s have been thinking for some time—-that this will end badly–with violence…..
History shows that the first shots will be fired by the lefties….
OBOZO had proposed his “national service” (brown shirts)…..
To achieve his agenda, at some point he will have to resort to some sort of para-military force….
Without this in place his administration has alienated the secret service, the CIA, the Police and the military….and the FBI are watching….
An incident during the “Rodney King Riots” comes to mind….
The California National Guard was deployed and subject to pressure from the LA mayor the Guard was forbidden to carry ammo….the Mayor to placate his citizens announced the no ammo policy on the radio…
However a contingent of US Marines was deployed from Twenty-Nine Palms….Marines ALWAYS have their ammo. Newly arrived a gang-banger emboldened by the radio announcement, did a drive-by and fired on the Marines. A marine on an APC, with a mini-gun, promptly shredded him and his car……. HEE HEE…..something about Superman’s cape….

  5. Americans view democracy and liberty as:
Two wolves and a lamb are having a vote as to whats for dinner.
Where Liberty is a well armed lamb contesting
    the vote.
Yes this will get ugly, and thank god for the second amendment.
When the shooting starts people like ( pillboy )
would do well to get out of Dodge, as his kind
will be the first they hang.

  6. Gee lets see, the President and Congress was not calling average Americans “astroturfers” and the Administration never came on TV and said 100s of thousands of protesters are “just wrong” and were being lied to by the other party.
The Government was not trying to “Fix” everything, the country was in better fiscal shape and even though the so called Trillion Dollar Deficit left by the last Administration actually was a result of…
    1) 170 Billion Dollar Stimulus
    2) 700 Billion TARP
    3) The start of the recession lowering revenues to the Federal Government.
So the response form Obama was to blame the Bush Administration for the deficits even though almost the whole Trillion Dollar deficit was not structural and was one time and recession driven and the design of the TARP should have created a positive return on most of it.
Now Obama he does things differently, his take over of autos is money lost forever from the TARP which should have been paid back. His housing plans and Freddie and Fannie money is never going to generate a return. His Stimulus plan bloated the tax burdens on States perpetually via increased social programs (the ones that were in place where sufficient if the recession is truly already over). The Autos will need financial support for the next decade and will cost I estimate another 150 Billion over that time. His healthcare plans will need 90 Billion a year to start, the pattern here is clear Bush spent a lot of money no way around it, but the Democrats controlled the congress, they approved every bit of it. Bush spent on one time only, good chance of return on 65% of it, stimulus and rescue while Obama is adding to the structural deficits long term and will bankrupt the country.
This is why people are mad, they were mad about TARP, they were really mad about the GSEs and then they got amazing PO’d at AIG, but the Auto Companies long tern liabilities and the unions getting shares pushed all the sane people just a bit too far. now the Administration is ignoring them or making fun of them and that will be the real issue soon.

Just like Liberano Canada; you say?

  8. Perhaps it is due to more people finally waking up, especially since the speed of change has greatly increased under Obama & company.
Glenn Beck identifies the problem extremely well in his book “Glenn Beck’s Common Sense” and is spot on in that this started a long time ago and has continued under both Democrats and Republicans. Those such as philboy are either ignorant or part of the problem which has nothing to do with the Right or the Left. It has everything to do with what Glenn Beck identifies as “progressives”.

  9. I wonder if Communism is a mental illness… sorta like progressiveness or being progressive. I gotta get Glenn Becks book to find out. Left or Right, if it’s progressive it’s FUBAR.

  10. wuberman, you are right. Mr. Beck refers to the mind-set as progressives, but one may refer to them as collectivists or whatever. They believe in big government (nanny state) domestically but their end goal is a big one-world government. They are anti-family in that parental authority must be removed and the children indoctrinate instead of educated in the school system in order to re-shape them and to eliminate any home values or ideas. This is the reason for the push for state day-care in order to remove them from the home even earlier. This is also why they are opposed to school vouchers (allowing parents to choose the school – a non state school and home-schooling. They believe in the redistribution of wealth and that they know better than the people what is good for them. I could go on and on but you get the point.

  11. Ah, the “angry right”, for years I heard about it. It was small and was usually hushed by the so called moderate conservatives. (They were so embarrassing!) Now, thanks to obozo, the moderate conservatives have found a justifiably angry voice and are scaring the crap out of dweebs like philboy.
After eight years of bushhitler and assassination fantasies, people must temper their anger, according to pelosi. Ha!
Take it to the streets! Truth to power! Dissent is the highest form of patriotism!

  12. I’ve also thought that our current politics has been victim of the same. Namely, the fact that the federal budget has skyrocketed in the last few Chretien/Martin/Harper years has left political discourse course and abrupt. What with $200 Billion + to spend, of course human nature will wade into the debate as to who gets to spend it. But unlike the U.S., We the People, don’t get our backs up like we should (IMO)

This would be Obama’s biggest mistake, and probably his LAST BIG MISTAKE.
He needs to, always, consider this: There are over 300 million LEGALLY HELD firearms in the hands of the citizens within the United States. Firearms and ammo sales, since his election, have been at a record pace, and continue that sales pace even now.
I opine that long ago the Conservatives had most of the firearms and ammo they wanted. The sales have, most likely of late, been greater within the group of people who consider themselves Independents. The fact that sales continue at the record levels ( a million plus, up 12%, in August, 2009) suggest that the acquisition of firearms may have moved beyond the Independents into the more moderate Liberals that may be having doubts about the future. Some anecdotal evidence strongly suggest this may be a factor.
Obama should take pause and do some deep thinking. I do not think he is capable of that.
    Interesting times coming.

  14. From this 2009 blog entry: “The most salient feature of the Obama administration is its concentration of the national wealth and power in this country into Washington, and more specifically in the hands of the President.”
From Gary Allen’s ‘none dare call it conspiracy’ 1971: “If one understands that socialism is not a share-the-wealth programme, but is in reality a method to consolidate and control the wealth, then the seeming paradox of super-rich men promoting socialism becomes no paradox at all. Instead, it becomes logical, even the perfect tool of power-seeking megalomaniacs.
Communism, or more accurately centralized socialism, is not a movement of the down-trodden masses but of the economic elite.”

  15. Is Glenn Beck really considered a good source of information by the right?
No sane person would consider him more than a somewhat entertaining village fool.

Interesting post—-you might have something there—firearms ownership could be the most reliable barometer of political alignment—and how the dems/left are loosing the public….
While some may decry the lack of leadership in the Republican/conservative camp—that makes interdicting that much more difficult….and worrying to Pelossi and the other fools….who SAY they hold the reins of power but KNOW they don’t….
As I have posted earlier, this administration cannot rely on either the military or the constabulary to enforce their will—mutiny is a very real prospect—the military/constabulary has no shortage of leadership talent.
