We Regret The Redundancy

Los Angeles Times :

TV listings: The Prime-Time TV grid in Thursday’s Calendar section mistakenly listed MTV’s “Jackass” show on the MSNBC cable schedule at 7 and 10 p.m. where instead MSNBC’s “Countdown With Keith Olbermann” should have been listed.

  1. Zap2it (the company that is responsible for compiling TV listings that are used by everything from PVRs and guides in your cable boxes to the TV guide published in the paper) can make mistakes at times. After all, it is punched into a database by hand. If, for instance, they punch a wrong number into the ProgramID field suddenly you could have just discovered that Playboy TV is running a half hour of Flintstones one night. They must do a lot of checking to make sure its accurate but let’s face it — mistakes happen.
What puzzles me is why you think this is a newsworthy story for Small Dead Animals. This is not some attempt to say something about Keith Olbermann. It is what it is, a simple typo likely by an administrator punching in the data manually to a database that coincidentally programs the nation.

  3. dour – definition of dour by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus …
Marked by sternness or harshness; forbidding: a dour, self-sacrificing life. 2. Silently ill-humored; gloomy: the proverbially dour New England Puritan. ..

  4. ROLF!!
And a twofer to boot, first Kate’s usual wit, then well…ah, I think Mortimer put it very nicely.
Mind you, I might actually watch Jackass as opposed to anything with Olbermann in it.

  5. Like I’ve said many times before, people subconsciously pick up on the themes around them.
As a matter of fact, a large percentage of our behavior and communication is subconscious – based on meeting our needs or desires. The term Freudian slip (parapraxis) is used when this occurs during speech.
I think it highly possible the programmer made this error on a subconscious level. However, it could just be a coincidental, yet humorous error to many – excluding unialova…err ulianov of course.

All the hot women are on the right.
Besides …what does appearance have to do with anything?
But I guess when you have no real argument, or can not construct a logical response to an issue -attacking ones appearance is all you have left.

  7. A complete whiff by the puritan, Mortimer and an appearance by the village idiot.
    Hilarious.

  8. Ja, Picking Ulianov as a nickname is revealing.
    A. Leftist B. Murderous C. Cruel. D. Economomically retarded E. Vicious
However, our ulianov has added a new thing: boring.
    Congrats.

  9. It’d called irony, that’s why it’s funny. Whether it was intentional or not is irrelevant.
This has been your explanation for the humour impaired.

  10. I am waiting for Olbermann’s head to explode one day on camera. As Obamasiah tanks, the amount of crap inside his cranium is going to increase beyond the “I believe” it limit and WHAMMMMM.

  11. What puzzles me is why you think this is a newsworthy story for Small Dead Animals.
Why? Because it’s a little bit of schadenfreude for Mr. Olbermann, who is one of the most vicious and vile “journalists” on television today. The only person more deserving of being on the receiving end of such an error is Bill Maher, in my opinion.

  12. Amy P: I agree on both items you mentioned (10:42).
ulianov: I guess when your version of hot is Pelosi and Boxer, we already know where your head is at.
    ’nuff said.

  13. What puzzles me is why the Olberman fans are reading SDA……
    Speculate away….
Oh and BTW – if you have to explain irony it’s beyond the ken of the person you’re trying to explain it to.
In other words … don’t waste your time.

So let me get this straight, random mistake results in Olberman’s show being mistitled as “Jackass”. Somehow I would choose to think that the individual who “punched this into the database by hand” was consciously motivated to make a comment on the character and political affiliation of the host but then I also believe that most politicians and lefty trolls know when they are lying.

Do you understand that paragraph? I think you meant to say that the “cheap copy” of the nations programming had an error. TV listings program nothing!

  16. OMMAG LOL as always succinctly put and to the point.
Slap shot-good observation -I just tend to glaze over the provocateurs, a fine sense of humor like logic, is a non-existent trait with this crowd. Always they come off as being mealy mouthed or maybe the word I should use is, condescending.
The old saying about the ‘two clues’ comes to mind with an update.
One’s lost and the other one’s still out looking for it, couple that with a corrupted concrete mind set and you have a modern day liberal.
Besides Olbermann is a big boy with loads of support from his colleges. Pretty sure his networks ‘high’ ratings and the money he garners sooths any ego bruising, no doubt he sleeps quite soundly.

  17. Both networks are irrelevant anyways nowadays.
MSNBC are the head cheerleaders for Owebama, nothing unbiased there, not even close.
MTV….I remember when that station has hip and fun, when it first came on the air. Yeah, sure, it was only music videos, but it never pretended to be anything else. Now, it is only MTV in name, but the dreck and ‘reality’ shows it plays are dead air.
Both stations are a waste of space on the dial.
