Happy Canada Day, everyone!
A glorious Dominion day to all…from sea to sea!
A safe and happy Dominion Day to all.
A special thank you to Vitruvius et al. for providing the always felicitous LNR.
And He shall have dominion from sea to sea! God bless Canada; we could use that benediction.
Happy Dominion Day!
Reclaiming Canada from the Trudeaupians one day at a time.
Question: Speaking of Trudeau – does anybody know why Ignatieff and the other Liberals were wearing a photo of Trudeau around their necks at the Toronto Gay Pride Parade?
Just wondering….
happy canada day …and happy dominion day to all from sea to sea to sea !!! lol …peace !
Happy Canada Day, SDA readers!
Brilliant Kate! Imagine being able to hear Clara Butt today – what a glorious voice. Thanks.
Lorraine – that’s an interesting question. Is Ignatieff trying to bond himself to the Trudeaupian era? Is he trying to define himself as a ‘new Trudeau’? Trying to somehow, set himself up as a ‘charming rogue’?
Doesn’t he realize how many people loathe Trudeau? Obviously not.
I note that in Toronto, where our city workers are all on strike, all Dominion Day celebrations were cancelled. Oh, but they kept the massive Gay Pride Parade on. Why? Could it have been about votes? Votes? Votes?
After all, Ignatieff and Layton and Rae all marched in the parade. Votes. Votes. Votes.
And Mayor Miller…he who caused the strike. He was in the parade too.
How did he cause the strike? Well, he’s utterly dependent on the unions to put and keep him in power. They supply the electoral workers, they supply funding and in-kind funding. So, he’s been giving massive rewards to them.
Annual wage increases of 3% when the private sector gets 1% if they are lucky. And bonuses, and benefits – such as 18 days sick leave per year, which you can ‘save’ (you come to work sick and save the work day)..and then, cash in all those days at retirement. You get TTC ticket collectors, the guys who sit in the subway and take your ticket..who earn over 100,000 per year.
So, Miller has been giving all of this to the union, and the unionists whose contracts are up now..they want the same. Miller has run out of money. The province and federals have told him to get lost..since they’ve bailed him out before. So, everyone is on strike. Garbage is piling up; no services.
At any rate, Happy Dominion Day to all, and thanks to Vitruvius, and EBD, for our LNR.
To our soldiers deployed…who are reading this blog. Happy Canada Day and God bless.
To everyone here in Canada enjoying our day off…have a great Canada Day.

ET: “Doesn’t he realize how many people loathe Trudeau? Obviously not.”
Most Liberals — and I know many — don’t seem to know this. It’s astonishing, really.

Too bad about the Maple Leaf Forever. It to was a wonderful inspirational marching song.
Happy Canada Day. Great country. Proud of our Armed Forces. We are so damned lucky!

Gunney99 has it right, we are pretty lucky. They’re starting to execute some Mousavi supporters in Iran.

Happy Dominion Day all!
Almost Dominion Day in the Dominion Of Canada. So Happy Dominion Day from Coast to Coast.
Or is it Coast to Coast to Coast, as the news readers always say? I don’t know where we got the extra coast from.
West coast East coast…North coast?
mr. vit,
please pass on my best wishes to piddingworth.
What a great and inspiring song, and what a tremendous national anthem it would have made.
Besides a history lesson, in the MLF we get a stirring message of freedom, loyalty, love and pride for our homeland, the greatest nation in the world. Instead we have O Canada, where we do a lot of standing on guard but not much else.
Many thanks to the Trudeaupians for burying this gem lest we upset the Frenchies.
a littlre chateau les pins (cotes du roussillon villages – 2005 – france) and concannon ( central coast – petite sirah 2006 – american) for the celebration.
a happy canada day for all!

I happily celebrate Dominion Day. For all our faults and problems, we remain the most blessed nation. I am proud proud to be Canadian.
Happy Dominion Day to all and God bless our armed forces. Thanks to Vitruvius for today’s LNR.
Canada Day Message from Prime Minister Harper:

Nice, Colin. Happy Dominion Day.
It is memorial day in Newfoundland. http://canadaonline.about.com/od/ww1battles/p/beaumonthamel.htm
(full disclosure – my grandfather and great uncle were blue puttees- part of the first five hundred to ship out. )
It has been argued that Newfoundland – the independent nation – died on this day 93 years ago. It is a valid argument IMO.
I still think they shoul;d have put two stripes of blue at the end of the liberal flag to denote both oceans.
Happy Canada Day. To those of you who have snidely pride about “we are what the United States is not”, take a look around.
Sorry, I thought the “snidely pride” thing was kinda funny.
I’ve seen that design Revnant Dream, with a real leaf in the center? I thought it looked real good… if I could choose one of Vit’s colors above though, I like the Blue Ensign… not that I hate Ontario and the Red Ensign (not too much!), but with the nod to Oz, and the Canadian Navy. and I wouldn’t want to see one province sharing a flag with the nation.
anything but all red… all the time…
Happy Dominion Day. and that Red Ensign does looks good in Mission, B.C. Colin…
Happy Canada/Dominion Day to all.
Incidentally: those who call it Dominion Day have a point.
“Fewer than 12 of the 282 members the House show up for work, which presents a procedural problem: a quorum of at least 20 members is required to conduct business, so officially, no bills could be passed. Nevertheless, Bill C-201 is given second and third reading. The time is 4:05 p.m. Our hard-working representatives call it a day.
“What transpired in those five minutes 27 years ago was a contempt of Parliament, but nobody cared. When the error was brought to the attention of Speaker Jeanne Sauvé the following Monday, she said no procedural rules had been broken because nobody called for a quorum count. A quorum was deemed to exist, thus making the actions of the House lawful….”
From “Canada Day” or “Dominion Day”?
It’s always nice to see the true Canadian flag. And I agree with Revnant Dream. The blue on either side of the flag would have been a much better choice.
Happy Dominion day all.
12:15AM 01/07/09, here in B.C. so yes, Happy Dominion Day!
It’s not too late to resurrect ‘The Maple Leaf Forever’. Here’s the new version with lyrics. In my opinion, a far better composition both musically and lyrically than ‘O Canada’.
It’s simply a matter of playing it wherever you have the authority to make it happen, ie at the opening of Legion mtgs. etc.

Viva Honduras! Viva la revolucion!
By Ellias Washington
The Machiavellian plots of a would-be dictator were unexpectedly thwarted by the Honduran military last Sunday. President Manuel Zelaya, a Marxist socialist who is the protégé of his Venezuelan neighbor, President Hugo Chavez, unsuccessfully tried to turn his country into a banana republic to extend his term in office indefinitely by executive decree. (Can you say Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York?)
The report from Reuters said, in part, “Zelaya, who took office in 2006 and is limited by the constitution to a four-year term that ends in early 2010, had angered the army, courts and Congress by pushing for an unofficial public vote on Sunday to gauge support for his plan to hold a November referendum on allowing presidential re-election.” More at: World net daily

So how about 13 mps reversing things today? Sure it would reversed back but it wouldmake the point.
Here is a rousing version of the Maple Leaf Forever.

A very happy Dominion Day to you all and a big thank you for posting the good old ‘Maple Leaf Forever’.
This is the fifteenth year we have lived in our present home and for fifteen years we have flown our Canadian flag on the first of July (until the end of summer) along with our neighbours next door.
This year is no exception.
We have an 8:00 am tee time on the golf course behind our home and the rain is expected to hold off until this afternoon, so I wish all SDA readers a Happy Dominion Day or Canada Day, if you will!!
Gordon Brown / Tony Blair’s britain, the looters have been operating since WWII and events unfold EXACTLY as per Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged. Exactly.

Happy Canada day.
From sea to shining sea, happy Dominion Day.
It would seem that a few here are not aware of Pearson’s comment about having blue bars on the flag instead of the current red. No flag in this country will have Tory blue. I remember the flag fight well and to this day detest the liberal eastern abortion that flaps over eastern canada. It’s not my flag and never will be.
May you celebrate many more ______ Days!

Question: Speaking of Trudeau – does anybody know why Ignatieff and the other Liberals were wearing a photo of Trudeau around their necks at the Toronto Gay Pride Parade?
Just wondering….
~Lorraine at June 30, 2009 10:30 PM
I think they wore Trudeau’s picture to remind the homosexuals to vote Liberal because it was Trudeau who legalized their perversion and made the parade possible. Just my 2 cents.
To marc in calgary | July 1, 2009 2:09 AM,
I used to think that the new Flag was Red and White because they were the colors of the LPC but after an earlier discussion some months ago I discovered that King George V said that Canada’s colors were Red and White in 1921, which are the Colors of England, Saint George’s Cross, and that is why the new Flag reflects those colors.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_George's_Cross
Saint George’s Cross is the classic emblem of the Shield of the Crusader, “Oh, Canada We Stand on Guard For Thee”.
We have a “Maple Leaf Packers” flag flying, but also a Union Jack and Red Ensign (a venerable, moth eaten specimen). So far, for our pro-British sentiments, no brick through the window!
A very happy Dominion Day to everyone at SDA!
I tried playing The Mapleleaf Forever, but I got tired after the first few hours. /Spike Milligan

Happy Canada Day! Joyeuse fête du Canada!
(And thanks for those old recordings. I love ’em in all their nostalgic corniness and absence of politically correct relativist sludge for lyrics*! Pip! Pip! For the Empire and our great Dominion!)
* For much the same reason, I adore the original French lyrics to O Canada:
“O Canada! Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l’épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.”
“The end is near for the warmists, I suspect.
This month, Jasper Kirkby of CERN explained the Centre’s CLOUD experiment, which is moving forward:
“The current understanding of climate change in the industrial age is that it is predominantly caused by anthropogenic greenhouse gases, with relatively small natural contributions due to solar irradiance and volcanoes. However, palaeoclimatic reconstructions show that the climate has frequently varied on 100-year time scales during the Holocene (last 10 kyr) by amounts comparable to the present warming – and yet the mechanism or mechanisms are not understood. Some of these reconstructions show clear associations with solar variability, which is recorded in the light radio-isotope archives that measure past variations of cosmic ray intensity. However, despite the increasing evidence of its importance, solar-climate variability is likely to remain controversial until a physical mechanism is established.
“Estimated changes of solar irradiance on these time scales appear to be too small to account for the climate observations. This raises the question of whether cosmic rays may directly affect the climate, providing an effective indirect solar forcing mechanism. Indeed recent satellite observations – although disputed – suggest that cosmic rays may affect clouds. This talk presents an overview of the palaeoclimatic evidence for solar/cosmic ray forcing of the climate, and reviews the possible physical mechanisms. These will be investigated in the CLOUD experiment which begins to take data at the CERN PS later this year.”
I found this side on page 29 to be plausible from a meteorological standpoint:”
“Message in the CLOUD for Warmists: The end is near?

You’ve probably all heard of Svensmark and the Galactic Cosmic Ray (GCR) to cloud cover modulation theory by now. Lot’s of warmists say it is “discredited”. However, CERN in Switzerland isn’t following that thinking, and after getting some encouraging results in the CLOUD06 experiment, they have funded a much larger and more comprehensive CLOUD09 experiment. I figure if it is “discredited”, a bunch of smart guys and gals like CERN wouldn’t be ramping up the investigation. There’s also word now of a new correlation:”
