WUWT: “The real question is, how often are we going to see the Wilkins Ice Shelf be a lead news story as poster child for “global warming” to illustrate ice loss in Antarctica that is actually growing. I guess as long as we have NSIDC’s Ted Scambos to help the media, it will be “something we get to see fairly often”.”

If ‘professional’ journalists and their agenda-driven editors are going to give us nothing but propaganda, at least make it free.
They are so much smarter than us, they can’t figure out why their industry is spiralling in.
With that level of intellectual prowess, they think they are in a position to inform us? It is to laugh. What idiots.
The photos may be the same but so what? How does that detract from the data of those who believe that the Wilkins Ice Shelf is on the verge of collapse?
Images are recycled all the time. This is hardly what I’d call hard evidence to the contrary.
But recycling photos proves the alarmists beliefs?
That’s brilliant….
Try actually reading the link Anthony. It has historical satellite photos to help you along…
Why are people so afraid to question global warming? You think people would have a natural skeptism? Whats wrong with having to be firmly convinced with something?
So the ice from the middle of Antarctica (elevation 10,000+ ft) is flowing downhill to sea level, then pushing out over the ocean where it eventually breaks off – perfectly normal, happens all the time. Even in Al Gore/Dr. Fruit Fly Land, water still flows downhill.
The Warmongers say it is “global warming” despite the fact the temperature is below zero. Things do melt in below zero temps in Al Gore/Dr. Fruit Fly Land.
Glaciologists call it an advancing glacier – EXPANDING, i.e. INCREASING in mass, you know . . . getting bigger.
I thought they said global warming causes glaciers to retreat ?

I have lots of questions about man made global warming but climate change is a reality and a normal condition. How man reacts or impacts climate is a study that can be trace through the centuries. Read ‘Collapse’ by Diamond. A reasonably fair discussion.
MOst thinking people reject bureacrats or Gore like pundits who hope to profit from the hysteria they have created. Most are more advocates of social engineering with themselves as the conductors than anything else.
Facts and logic fall on alarmist deaf ears.
Sorta like the protesting zealots screaming AGW in a snowstorm……
For those poor souls this amounts to logic….
dumb as a sack of hammers…….

Fred, thanks, you saved me time. These global warming freaks say whatever their tunnel vision little minds dream up and the main stream mimics pass along this self-righteous garbage. I often wonder who’s the dumbest, those that make it up, those that pass it along or those that buy it?
One of the most ironic aspects of the global warming/climate chaos scam is that liberals claim they want to limit our energy use to protect future generations from climatic changes. On the other hand, though, these same liberals come into power in the US and blithely add trillions of dollars of new spending for those same future generations to pay for. It’s obvious the climate malarky is just being used to do what they wanted in the first place: increase the government’s control over us and suck up to the environmental movement.
Trust the Media? I dont think so.
There is no such thing as peer review honest climate science research. All science is based on grants ie carbon business or un tin gods mouthing off. all data is cherry picked to fit. For honest science bring in astrologers or witches
The great success of the human species is it’s ability to ADAPT. They did this during and after the last great ice-age and they did it during the last medieval warming period.
Now that we have become a coddled, spoiled pack of brats, we cannot handle the very nature of our planet.

“The real question is, how often are we going to see the Wilkins Ice Shelf be a lead news story as poster child for “global warming” to illustrate ice loss in Antarctica that is actually growing”.—-For as long as will see pictures of the declining polar bears while their numbers are actually growing.— I’ve actually had an enviro-freak tell me that even though my argument (based on facts)may be valid,the polar bears are thinner now (based on opinion),therefore we have less of a mass of polar bears now then years past. This was the end of rational argument with her,as I countered that the polar bears were being influenced by fashion. No sense of ha-ha,and no sense.
Your friend sounds just like the MSM tactic.
Never let the facts stand in the way of a good story.
If the Wilkins Ice Shelf DOES collapse and break away from the rest, will THIS be the ice that melts and raises the ocean levels six metres?
Seriously, of what real consequence is this “disaster”?
The ecofascists have no interest in the truth. They use environmental issues to scare the unwitting into accepting their political agenda, that being a global ecofascist dictatorship. They despise themselves as well as the rest of the human race and ANY means to their end will do. No lie is to big, no deception is too low.

Hundreds of people were stranded at shelters Friday night after transportation officials shut down an 80-mile stretch of Interstate 70 between Vail and Golden because of wet, heavy snow and multiple accidents.
The American Red Cross opened a second shelter in Idaho Springs after its first shelter there filled to capacity with more than 300 people, said Jim Rettew, a spokesman for the organization’s Mile High Chapter.
The stranded travelers didn’t all get cots, but many got snacks, and most were in good spirits, he said.
“Some are trying to sleep, some are talking, some are eating, some are on the phone,” Rettew said. “When this kind of thing happens, everyone just makes the best in trying circumstances.””

The most laughable part of the human-haters (that’s actually what racism means), argument is they assail us (the western capitalists don’t you know) as worthless locust type creatures; though apparently we have the ability to install a global thermostat, which we can adjust up or down as required, for all the harm we cause.

The Wilkins Ice Shelf is a floating mass of ice. Its collapse, as they call it, is merely the fracture and separation from its connection to surrounding ice. Even if it all melted, there would be no rise in any sea level. None. Not even nanometers.
When it breaks off, floats around and eventually melts; when there will be no appreciable rise in sea levels … we can laugh at these fools even louder.
“If the Wilkins Ice Shelf DOES collapse and break away from the rest, will THIS be the ice that melts and raises the ocean levels six metres?
You are aware that this ice shelf is floating over the ocean right ?
Think displacement.
If that doesn’t help, out an ice cube in a cup of water and watch it melt.
Observe the water level in the cup.
End of grade 6 science class.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
Water in the oceans will evaporate, then fall as percipitation.
Some part of that will fall over the Antarctic ice shelf, others in the Andes and still others in some other part of the world.

Copy of a letter sent to my local MP:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear, Mr. Kamp.
First off, I have been a long-time western conservative dating back to the early 90s, since I was legally able to vote upon reaching the age of majority. I must confess, however, to extreme discomfort that your party has taken on the position of so-called global warming.
There is no compelling evidence to suggest that man-made carbon dioxide emissions have any material impact on climate. Evidence presented to prop up anthropogenic global warming (AGW) is easily deconstructed and refuted. This is the nature of the scientific method: a theory is presented that appears to fit available evidence, until such time as counter-evidence is presented deconstructing the theory. The theory then must undergo revision.
However, in the case of AGW, despite years of data at the least questioning the viability of AGW theory, and usually out and out refuting it, governments such as yours (and many others), continue to craft destructive policy on the basis of this demonstrably failed theory.
I can cite countless examples. But two of the most often cited “proofs” of AGW related to the impacts on the Earth’s polar regions.
One of the usual sources of “evidence” used to support AGW is the apparent disintegration of the Wilkin’s ice shelf in Antarctica. Well, the “warm-mongers” have been warning of the loss of this ice shelf for the better part of the last decade as the proverbial canary in the coal mine. I point you to the following web site which nicely deconstructs the Wilkin’s lie:
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/04/17/the-antarctic-wilkins-ice-shelf-collapse-media-recycles-photos-and-storylines-from-previous-years/
Similarly, at the other pole, we are consistently warned about the loss of arctic ice. However, no mention is ever made of winter/2008 data which shows arctic ice essentially matching 1980 levels, the first year satellite photographic data became available (satellites went up in 1979). Note the purple areas on the following satellite images, which denote ice cover:
http://wattsupwiththat.files.wordpress.com/2008/02/seaice-feb1980-2007.jpg
Generally speaking, we rarely hear about the overall cooling trend since 1998 from mainstream media outlets or governments, despite increasing levels of CO2 in the atmosphere. Funny how IPCC models utterly failed to predict this cooling trend, yet are being relied upon to predict global climate out 100 years, and used as the basis for basis for constructing trillions of dollars of wealth redistribution schemes. Nor do we hear about the compelling correlation between sunspot activity and global temperature changes, a theory at least as compelling (frankly moreso, in my opinion) as AGW to account for climate fluctuation. However, since man obviously has no impact on sun spots, governments and bureaucrats cannot build empires on the basis of this theory, so it is ignored.
Mr. Kamp, is the duty of any government to first and foremost look after the interests of its citizens. Following the lead of other governments in implementing carbon taxes, cap and trade schemes, and other measures intended to control a naturally occurring, life giving gas (carbon dioxide) is sheer folly. Such policies will hurt citizens of Canada and have no impact on global climate (a chaotic system, in my opinion, which only human arrogance would presume we could control in any meaningful way).
I urge you and your party to stand up for what is right, and state clearly, and with confidence, that AGW is at best, unproven, at worst, a constructed fraud, and that the government of Canada will not take any action to hurt the finances of Canadians on the basis a dubious scientific theory, especially in this time of global recession. Somebody needs to tip the first domino, and it would make me proud if it were the government of Canada. I have no doubt other nations and jurisdictions would follow suit quickly.
With regards,
Pursuant to my post on fashion conscious polar bears.They also wear fur,REAL fur,year-round.Is that necessary? While on the subject,and this will be the last,I am so glad the eco-freak that dove into the moat did not bond with the bears,or else we my be getting ransom notes right about now.
Kate, here’s a link to the Canadian Ice Service, I thought you might find it interesting.
wallyj, doesn’t it disturb you that environmental activists do everything to protect the polar bears, and everything they can to stop the Canadian seal hunt, but never consider the fact that polar bears eat seals.
This is a contradiction that has to be fixed! Perhaps PETA should go up to the Arctic and chase the bears away from the seals, putting themselves bravely between the predator and prey, as they do with the sealers.
It’d solve several problems at once.
Fred & Woodporter, I was being facetious, and am not one bit worried about ice shelfs anywhere but in the Okanagan, where the Wilkins Ice Shelf would make a difference in Lake Okanagan if it toppled into it!
interesting how these journalist genious never figure out that the only way you have ice move out from a glacier on relatively flat ground is to load it from the top. the glaciers that pushed down from the mountains and the arctic where loaded till they flowed out. witness the moraines and ice ridges all over Canada. Ice flowing outward equals more snow not less.
Next time I am sitting on Sunoka beach, looking at all the post glacial landforms on the west side of the lake, I’ll keep a sharp eye for glaciers creeping down from Penask.
First one I see, I’ll let you know so you can move to higher ground – and I don’t mean Naramata.
Because if it evaporates to a certain point – they have lanes now where ships can go that couldn’t ever sail through before. The reason tha antarctic ice shelves are calving is because the glaciers are growing.
MSMers = ignorant + stupid.
they (scientists studying the south polar cap) have come to the conclussion that there are 200 yrs and 500 yrs cycles were iceselves calf off and start regrowing, maybe the dunderheads (politicians) should study a little more before running off at the chops about pi$$ing anymore tax dollars on this BS
The photos have nothing to do with melting Ice Shelves. There is no guarantee they are even in the Antarctic; they are just photos of cracks in ice, which we even get on the St. Lawrenc e in winter (the cracks that is; the ice goes without saying).
How does that detract from the data of those who believe that the Wilkins Ice Shelf is on the verge of collapse?
Well, for a start, belief doesn’t require data, and data obviates “belief”. Just because people “believe” the ice shelf is on the verge of collapse doesn’t create data in support of those beliefs, except by slight-of-hand (or fraud as it is more commonly known).
The data quite clearly shows that Antarctic Ice is increasing.
Come on people, we must move beyond superstition ….
“We’ve just been through the biggest drought in whitefella history and now we’ve got one of the biggest floods ever,” Mr Rowlands said.
“The birdlife is unreal. There’s an explosion of thousands and thousands of birds of many different species, and they’re all over the place.”
Mr Rowlands said the pelican colonies were particularly impressive. “It’s a sight to behold to be amongst this great mass of pelicans, a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
See the Club of Rome
Its all about population growth. Misleading the true issue.
If anyone can find a copy of the original population growth model by the Club of Rome please post it here.
Thank You.
The point of potential ice shelf collapse is that in and of itself it is indicative of nothing. Ice develops fissures over time and eventually falls apart. What is more amazing than the potential collapse of the ice shelf is the length of time that it has withstood the ravages of time. Should the shelf collapse it is likely that a new one will develop and take the collapsed one’s place.
Enough enough… I actually have a copy of the Club of Rome book buried in the archives. I will mount an archaeological expedition to see if I can lay my hands the aforementioned scrolls, and if successful, will post model here. We can believe models, right?
