  1. I cringed when the camera operator appeared to behind the Carl G! The backblast on one of them is wicked!

  2. Damn, I’m going to have to revamp my shooting range. I have it set up for 50, 100 and 200 yards, off my deck. Now I need to build a launching ramp.

  3. Jeremy Clarkson & the Top Gear crew do comedy I can watch.
The CBC tries to give us their version of comedy, but none of it is the least bit funny.

  4. That video is extremely silly.
I’ve heard of Head-Smashed-In-Buffalo-Jump, but I’ve never heard of Hood-Smashed-In-Buick-Jump.

  5. The Carl G handling was impressive. Hitting a flying moving target…wow, I wonder how his ears are. Must of dug a hole with the backblast.

  6. Pat @3.50. Maybe this is a whole new line of work for crash-test-dummies, you know with the recession and all, training for new job skills.

  7. Awwww man and all the Mogadishu sporting clays club will do is glue a blasting cap to the back of every other hostage launched out of the trap….this looks like way more fun, I could stay on a course of fire like that all day….’specially if the cars are Hyundais πŸ˜‰
BTW I wonder what kind of “lead” is needed using that Gustuv RPG?

  8. How about a Javelin, Stinger or a Ruskie SAM?
Nova Scotia has a (unsucessful) program to get older cars off the street by offering a bus pass and $300 per vehicle. Can you imagine the lineups for a chance to blow up your beater? I’d pay for that!
I’d add a line about job opportunities for drivers from (insert any inappropriate country, ethnicity or heritage here), but that would not be very PC. I probably couldn’t volunteer my wife to drive either ;-(

  9. Kate:
Look at your website–remember what you said about your brother(s) who shot up that 57 Plymouth that was in the pasture!! (Or was that a Dodge??) Sorry, but I just had to throw that in!

  10. Now I KNOW we have a ton of ex-Canadian ground pounders here if they recall firing the Carl G..
Brings back fond memories of Shiloh.
I graduated to the big cat with the 105mm reach- out and touch someone sabot..plus, you could squish smaller objects, all good fun..
Are the CG’s still in frontline service here in the Dominion?

  11. “I cringed when the camera operator appeared to behind the Carl G! The backblast on one of them is wicked!”
    Pansy try a 106 πŸ˜‰
Ok I cringed too. What comedy threw someone out the window from an M72?

  12. For a guy who’s never fired a Carl G before, that was a helluva shot heh. Next time I go to the range, I’ll have to spice things up, keep it interesting.

  13. The Carl G part was clearly faked. As others have described, the 84 has a huge backblast area which, even if it didn’t singe the cameraman’s pubic hair would have knocked him “arse-over-teakettle”, as the Brits like to say, when the weapon fired. As a recoiless gun the Carl G creates a vacuum around the operators when its fired. It’s pretty cool to see, and given the dust on that firing range, should have been clearly visible if that was for real.
As for Jeremy Clarkson, I recall seeing a show he did for the Beeb about his father-in-law (Robert Cain) in the Second World War. Maj Cain (aka “the Mad Major”) won the VC during the Battle of Arnhem for running about the Oosterbeck “hexen kessel” (witch’s cauldron – the British defence pocket on the north side of the Rhine) with a PIAT gun breaking up German attacks by knocking out German tanks at very close range. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw Clarkson with the 84.
